Chapter 6: Spies
I slammed into the table in vain, growling. It feels good to express my anger, especially since there's nothing I can do about the situation. Why didn't Eva call me right away? Instead, she sent me an email. An email! Who in this world checks his email every hour? Biting my lower lip, I remember that only Paul had my number. That's just because I have to call him and give orders.
What can I say? I am a private person.
My attention turned to my feet, and I propped it up on the couch to give it a break. It took longer than expected to heal, especially since I had a complex fracture. If possible, I will avoid close contact with rockets in the future.
Even though I knew about Eva's guests, there was nothing I could do. If I faced them weak and injured, I could get kicked in the ass by him. Therefore, it is not possible to visit them immediately.
What else can I do to avoid wasting more time?
I got up and staggered through the small apartment. It is located on the top floor of an apartment building by the lake. I made it my home because of its location because no one would expect me to stay here. The rising sun looks beautiful when it shines on the mountains from the balcony. If the fog is churning just right, the scene is somewhat mysterious. I'm just a little annoyed by the fact that humans have built a huge watchtower on the mountain. It undermines my point and its form is simply ugly. The person who designed that thing should be executed.
Arriving at the weapon safe, I opened it and studied my options. Once I gave him the right motivation, TetrachHammon was very helpful. Apparently, the Harmon sisters did not agree with their family's marriage policy. The eldest one succeeded in marrying an English lord. They even cast a binding spell on her to make her submit.
The purpose of the spell is to turn her into a docile wife who obeys her husband's commands.
No one realizes that the female devil has always known about their plans. She added some extra orders of her own design to the spell, and she disarmed her husband when he tried to make a deal. Instead of getting their allies, they got an angry lord with no balls. He ran away without his wife, so Selly stayed in the main house and has since been treated as damaged goods.
I myself find this outrageous because my parents raised me not to do such a thing. Sadly, their ideals didn't help them in the end.
Since the number of our race is so small, it is common to marry women to other clans. It's a common practice, although everyone eventually makes their own rules. It reduces the likelihood of being attacked due to the connections established between families, at least it prevents inbreeding. I guess that's at least a good thing. Even if my clan wasn't wiped out, I would have to look for a wife in another clan.
The only other option is cousins. I grinned. At least that's no longer an option.
Tetrach reveals that Sely loves her little sister Annia and is very protective of her. Even his own mother didn't dare to fight against the patriarch. So when it was Annia's turn to make chips, Sely grabbed her in the middle of the night. They stole some important artifacts by raiding the family vault. Then they fled half of Europe with a group of mercenaries and their own families.
Once the goblins find out, they want their own piece of pie. The two female Old Days Dominators are a good conquest for their breeding plans, though I think women who have anything to know about elves would rather die than fall into their hands.
Often, the escape of the sisters is an almost impossible feat. Each clan's territory was surrounded by a veil. The strength of the veil depends on the clan, but the fact remains that wearing even the weakest veil is not a pleasant experience. It is possible to cross the veil of two adjacent territories, since they almost never touch each other. Although it still means that someone has to climb mountains to get anywhere in Europe.
Most sane old people make one of the big cities their home. So, if someone trying to escape from a highly developed area like Europe is lucky, then he or she can stay in some remote village at most. Not the best hiding place. If a person wants to get off the grid, the safest option is to hide in the biggest, most chaotic place he or she can find.
The fact that they are still hiding in my territory means that they are on their way to one of the big cities. Maybe Rome? Or are they going to use my territory to jump to France? Doesn't sound very reliable. The old man who entered my territory had a reputation for disappearing. That's why everyone left me alone. A man goes in, but he can't get out.
So why did they venture into my territory......
Maybe the mercenaries made them turn their backs to the wall? A lot of mercenaries appear at the same time, so it can be explained. They followed them closely, only passing through the curtain in the frenzy of hunting.
Even if Tetrach denies it, his story answers the question of how the sisters got into my territory without me noticing. Among the stolen artifacts, there must be something that allows them to wear the veil without being discovered.
This explains why their people are going to great lengths to get them back. Not only are they politically valuable, but this artifact is of extremely high tactical value. So far, I've put a lot of trust in the veil, but I may have to reevaluate my attitude towards this aspect of the veil. At least this artifact seems to be a unique item. Otherwise Tetrach and his team would have used one as well, instead of rushing through my veil and ringing all the alarm bells.
I reached into the safe and chose the gun I had used against the goblins. Then I added a longer barrel and a better range. I'm not sure what kind of situation I'll face, so sticking with automatic weapons might not be the worst idea. I like the concept that StG is made up of building blocks. I want a small arm for close-quarters combat? Take a short barrel and a large magazine. Feels more like sniping today? No problem, the barrel is longer and the ammunition is stronger.
After assembling a weapon with better ranged capabilities, I stored it in a travel bag. Then I gave a dreamcatcher I got from a wizard as a gift. He is an old man who sees Ojibwe as his people and lives in Canada. There was a time when I called him a friend because he shared some of his knowledge. I limped to the balcony, determined to gather as much information as I could by tomorrow. Dreamcatcher doesn't just bother me with my target's dreams. It is also an excellent spy tool because it enables an in-vitro experience.
Sadly, in most cases something like this isn't of much use, as my range is limited by the Veil, which is a good defense against magical espionage. I have to know where the target is. None of these restrictions apply at the moment, so I'll take full advantage of its possibilities.
Once I got to the balcony, I tied the rope to the ceiling and adjusted the height. Then I sat down and let the dreamcatcher dangle in front of me. Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes and focused on the quartz at the center of the artifact, using it as the focal point of my power.

"Are you sure you're here to make the right choice?" Anna asked in a desperate voice as she lay on the bed. It was early in the morning and she had only slept for a short time. Every slight sound woke her up.
I can't blame her, because so do I. Closing the curtains to block out the sun, I returned to her and studied the small room we got from the vampire. It's risky to stay here for too long, but it's okay if we're too tired to run or fight. It's best to go on an adventure now. "The fact that we can choose to enter this territory, or fight a hundred goblins, makes the question meaningless, don't you think?"
She nodded. "It's better to die than to be caught by a goblin. I'm pretty sure they're not going to hunt us down and drag us back to our families. ”
I raised an eyebrow, surprised that she understood this. "We're not dead yet. We still have options. The question is how we should treat our brothers. I think they're close. If we leave the city, they will find us soon. ”
Anna smiled. "Then let's just get in the car and go around all day. They get angry when they realize that the city is so full of our tracks that it's almost impossible to track us down. ”
I rubbed her hair and lay down beside her. "As long as that adult doesn't show up, we'll be fine."
"I want you to have a plan for him, because I don't know what to do. My knowledge of the territory makes me wish we had never been here," Annia muttered.
I snorted. "I can play against a strong opponent. I'm not weak. If we believe these reports, then he is likely to be alone. Something happened in the land, killing the local clans. He is the only person to have been seen in public in recent years. ”
However, the clan sent an elite team of ten people to take over the territory. Mom said they were a group of well-trained elite fighters. If the lord of this territory can make them disappear like this, then I don't want to face him. Maybe he's a terrible old man who is grumpy and angry with himself and the world. What if he's worse than our guys? ”
Thinking of this, I pursed my lips and replied, "If we meet either side, then we just need to find a way to pit them against each other." Men are not good at sharing territory. I'm sure if we get them into the same field, then they will interact more with each other than with us. Just make sure you don't lose Horus. ”
Annia reached for the amulet around her neck and nodded. "Without it, we wouldn't have escaped."
I sighed and patted her on the head. "Sleep a little longer. We'll try our luck in the evening. But we have to be at our best. I can fight with our brothers, but I can't protect you at the same time. If they catch you, it's all in vain. I don't want you to be as cursed as I am. ”
"I'm sorry to be so useless in battle," she muttered, half-asleep.
"You're just young. That's it. I closed my eyes and tried to rest more.
