Chapter 2: Another World
*Phew, Bah, Bah*
With a loud bang, her eyes snapped open, and her body snapped awake at the same moment.
Everything is bright, too bright. As she screamed, her hands stretched out, blocking out the glare of light. The feeling of free fall was only a brief second, and her body fell backwards, her legs seemingly locked onto where she was sitting as the inside of her knees pressed against some hard surface. Icy water splashed around her. Her hands fluttered around in a panicked state before finding the supporting object behind her. She propped herself up and rushed out of the water a second later, coughing and spitting out.
A weak fist slammed into her chest, causing her to cough up a mouthful. She was now standing upright on the edge of a huge stone fountain. What? Where is she? Why is it so bright?!
Her eyes scanned the area around her. Trees are scarce; Maybe it's the edge of the forest? She's been kidnapped?! She jumped up and looked around. The fountain behind her was the most obvious thing, but it seemed only vaguely familiar. Like what she had seen in a dream or in any old ordinary park. But what about the rest of the place?
The evening sun casts a warm glow from the gently swaying evergreen branches, each tree being shaken by the gentle spring breeze. The clearing is small and surrounded by light-colored forests. A dirt path leads to the fountain where she had been sitting on the edge. The place looked more like a shrine than any kind of park, and the girl thought as she waved her arms and flung her pajamas. She hoped that the pink elephant printed on them would forgive her for getting them wet.
"Huh?"
She looked at her clothes. These weren't her pajamas. Not a single elephant can be seen anywhere, let alone a pink one. She wore a skirt, no, a robe. It is a shade that is almost off-white but not entirely white. It doesn't have sleeves. In addition, the front is more generous and showy than anything she wears outside.
Surprised again, she jumped up, now awoke from her initial shock and watched the rather large bird run around the clearing, pecking at the dirt. It looks like a chicken. A chicken? Where is she? The chicken looked at her. She looked back at it.
It nodded to her.
She nodded. Wait, what?
* Bakawa! *
The chick screamed, spread its wings, and rushed towards her with a dangerous look in its little eyes. She screamed in surprise and turned to run as fast as she could. As she ran for her life, her dry leather boots kicked a cloud of dirt behind her, scrambling to get away from the chickens. The chicken chased after her with flapping wings and high-pitched clucking.
"Fuck off! Hush! Bad chicken! Hurry up and get out! ”
The girl screamed. She ran away from the chicken that hadn't even reached her knees. It flapped its wings frantically as it chased her and drove her away from the fountain. A fork in the road ahead. She heard screams behind her, probably not even five meters away, very close! Sweating profusely and drenched, she grabbed a branch and turned sharply to the left, one foot off the road. Her chest was tight and her lungs were burning. She has never been very athletic, and she has never really exercised.
She knew it was ridiculous to run away from the chicken, but then again, she had never been chased by anything, and its mouth did look sharp, after all...... What if it has rabies? Can chickens get rabies? She didn't know, and she didn't want to know.
She turned her gaze to the intersection behind her, and after only a second of staring, she saw the chicken standing there, seemingly unwilling to cross any line in the sand. Then, as if losing all interest; It turned away to go back.
Sweating profusely and breathless, the girl leaned forward and leaned her palms against the trunk of a tree and gasped. She felt nauseous and panting. She knew her figure was out of shape, but she didn't expect it to be so bad. She was dizzy. But as she leaned back and listened to the hustle and bustle of the peaceful spring day, her bloodshot head soon became clear, and so did the other voices.
Someone's voice.
She looked to the side of the road, her eyes wide open as she panicked at what she had missed. Huge stone gates. Near the entrance stand two huge statues, as if guarding it. One holds a fantastical sword; The other is to decorate the spear. Their bodies are hewn out of old white stone. Its base is covered with overgrown and creeping vines that have apparently tried, but never fully reached their legs. She straightened up and walked slowly towards the door, the sun shining on her thin shoulders.
"This can't be true......"
She looked down at her hands. The hands are not as blurry as in a dream. She pinched her fingers in her palm and felt a slight tingling. It's true. The scorching heat of the sun, the warmth of the wind, the dew on the forehead, the pain in the lungs, the feeling of the fabric against the skin, all this is too real to deny. She looked down at herself, thankfully the robes weren't made of the same material that was soaking wet. It seems that something is wrong.
Her body felt different than before. Feel...... Her hand caressed her upper body and shoulders differently. It doesn't feel the same. Is this another world? Definitely, absolutely!
She smiled. This is the moment when her life begins, the moment when she really starts another life. She was surprised in a sense, but not either. She thinks years of lurking in the dark corners of the internet have made her numb to almost everything. Even something as monumental as this, the notion of being transported to another world in another body, did not phase her as it should. But, nevertheless. The warm sunshine is intoxicating. The laughter and voices outside the walls were intoxicating, pulling her closer and closer to the city.
The girl's eyes sparkled. The sound of the march and the noise of the city, coming from the square outside the gates, reached her heart and ears clearly. She walked towards the city, but found her pace quickening to a slight jog and then a run. That's it...... It's finally time to begin!
After a life of misery, sadness, and loneliness, this will be her chance to finally have a real life!
