Chapter 477: Horror Scene
Hadrisha hadn't expected to hear from Darnassus so soon, but that didn't mean she wouldn't stand still. Believing that the orcs had made a move, she took another team the next day to explore the hilly area east of the Night Elf camp known as the Meysena Sentry. She took Shanon with her for his sharp eyes. Dani stayed in the fortress to preside over the overall situation, much to the displeasure of Hadlisa's lieutenant.
"As the Supreme Commander, you should stay in the rear. Dani had admonished in her most polite way. "What if you get in trouble outside. β
Her words were true, but at the time Hadrisha could not shake off the thought that perhaps Daini felt that she was better able to cope with the difficulties of the journey or the dangers of the encounter. So Hadrisha did not hesitate to reject the subordinates' proposals. However, during the ride, Hadrisha felt aches all over her body, and she couldn't help but think that she should have listened to her more.
But when Shannon, who had gone to scout with two sentinels, returned, Hadrisha put all thoughts aside. It is unlikely that the tribe would have any intentions for such a remote place, but Hadrisha chose this place because she knew that the enemy might take advantage of this habitual thinking. Thinking from the enemy's point of view has saved the Commander many times, even though it has always disgusted her. But she had to do everything she could to anticipate the enemy's chances.
Of course, when she announced where she was going to lead the team, Dani and Shanon looked suspicious.
However, at this moment, there was no doubt on Xia Nong's face. In fact, his nervous expression made everyone waiting behind him, especially Hadrisha, sit up nervously.
"What's going on?" As soon as he got closer, Hadrisha asked.
"You'd better see for yourself," he said, before he had taken a breath from the gallop, "this way!"
The strange answer made the commander furrow, and she waved for the team to follow Shanon. Trained Nightblade leopards leap into the forest with swiftness and silence, nimbly weaving through trees and crawling over rugged ground. For thousands of years, Hadrisha has raved about their agility. These big cats are in the prime of life. For the first time, the Commander remembered her past mounts and the end of their tumultuous lives. Although some Nightblade Leopards died in battle, many survived with their wounds. This made her realize once again her declining self-severity.
The Night Elves were careful to remain alert, though there was no indication of what Shanon and the other two sentinels had seen at this time. At this moment, Xia Nong bowed down and galloped with the leopard galloping, showing his determination to take the commander to his destination as soon as possible. In her opinion, this was a bad omen.
Then they descended into the dense forest and came to a rolling hill, where Shanon suddenly motioned for the group to slow down. Hadrisha drove the leopard to his side, then leaned sideways.
"What......?"
"Listen. β
She knew that Shannon's ears were also more sensitive than most. But even with that in mind, the commander was amazed at what he had heard. Even the Nightblade Leopards didn't seem to notice anything out of the ordinary.
"I didn'tβ" Hadrisha began, but stopped again. A very faint voice could be heard in the distance. An eerie and disturbing voice. There is even a strange rhythm, repeated again and again.
"What's that?" Someone whispered. "Sounds familiar......"
"I'm going to see again. She glanced back and commanded her men. "Now Shanon and I are going to investigate. The others will stay behind, and we'll signal when we need your support. β
The other sentinels didn't seem happy, but they did as they were told. Shanon drove his Nightblade Panther on a slower, more cautious pace. Hadrisha also kept the mount at the same pace.
As they approached their destination, Shanon took the Moonblade in his hand. Hadrisha did the same.
The buzz was loud. It was a headache-inducing, cacophony of noise, accompanied by a creaking sound. The commander recognized that it was the sound of a tree breaking.
Although the details were not yet known, she now fully understood what was happening. The tribe has been seeking to expand wildly, and the demand for timber is insatiable. They were to be used to build houses, burn fires and smelt, and build ever-expanding fleets.
That's why they salivate over Ash Valley.
"We'd better walk through here. Shanon whispered in her ear.
Hadrisha nodded, and she dismounted, and together with Shanon, tied the reins of the Nightblade Leopard to the tree. These Nightbladed Leopards are so intelligent that they will stay where they are unless they are called to do so by their riders. If the situation is urgent, the leopards can quickly come to help, which greatly benefits Hadrisha.
Shanon squatted down and led the way forward. The wind changed direction and blew towards them. Not only did this prevent the orcs from smelling them, but it also answered the question in Hadrisha's mind.
The smell of fuel and steam is mixed in with the wind, which is the hallmark of the goblin machine. Judging from the suffocating strong smell, it was several machines. Goblins are almost the opposite of the Night Elves; They believe in the power of the machine rather than the forces of nature, and have little, if any, respect for the latter.
"Look at that!" Shanon said in a shrill voice, pointing to the northeast with one hand.
At first, Hadrisha thought it was a couple of armored giants strolling through the forest. One of the giants was about to go on a killing spree, one of his arms loaded with a wildly swirling arcing blade; At the end of the other arm is a large four-toothed hook. The giant was now grasping a thick oak tree in one hand and reaching for its trunk with the other.
To Hadritha's horror, the saw blade cut through the wood with ease. In the blink of an eye, the huge oak tree shook, and it had lost its life.
However, the huge figure was not satisfied with this. It shifted its position and began to cut the tree into small pieces again.
It was then that Hadrisha saw that there was a seat on the head of the thing...... There was a short figure sitting on it, skillfully manipulating the control lever. He had long green skin and ears, and a sadistic smile on his face.
"A lumberjack," she whispered to Shannon. "A goblin lumberjack!" There have been reports of such machines appearing as far east as possible, but it is troubling to find one so close.
"Wait," Shanon whispered. "Keep listening. β
Before she could ask why, the buzz came from another place. The two saw another logging machine slowly walk out. The machine, which had a silver and red coating, stopped, and turned its upper body to the side, as a living creature would have broken its spine if it had done so. There was another goblin in the seat, half-hidden by armor, who surveyed the nearby woods, and after selecting a target, he flicked a handle, and the spinning saw blades began their brutal work.
Hadrisha cursed silently at such blasphemy. She was about to stand up - instinct made her crouch down at once, when two more lumbersaws came into view.
"They're logging on a large scale here," Shannon told her. "I saw two more earlier. They're destroying this area of Ash Valley, as if those trees don't feel at all, don't matter at all!"
"Six lumbersaws. Hadrisha did the math. "We've been able to deal with so muchβ"
Then an even more terrifying nightmare appeared before them. Another logging machine was added, followed by another...... Soon there were more than twenty logging machines in front of them, and the number was growing.
"Elune is on top!" Shanon gasped. "It's worse than I thought!"
"We've got to go!" Hadrisha replied, and she began to step back. Still watching the horror, the two sentries slowly retreated towards the place where they had left their mounts. (To be continued.) )
