Chapter VI Appointments
"Dear Mr. Stoddard, as the elder of the Mill, I don't want you to get involved in anything with the two young men." Mary smiled and said to Amos, but her tone was a tone higher than Amos's, signaling Amos not to dictate to Mir's thoughts.
Mary's current status is the wife of the marshal of the French Empire, so she naturally has a higher status than Amos, and she doesn't want to see Amos at this time, let alone hear anything from him.
"Dear Lady Rosalie, are you joking?" Amos clenched his fists and said contemptuously, "Your words seem ill-conceived, in some way ideologically immoral, Mir is almost all my credit in New Orleans, Mir's work, the house, and Alina's work, and even everything, including you, dear Lady Rosalie." β
Mary was deeply pierced by Amos's words, and she didn't think about it, she was just very angry at Amos when she said that he was going to drive them away, so angry that Mary lost her mind.
Mary noticed that Amos's eyes were staring at her, and Amos's eyes were extremely sharp, so she had to pout: "Dear Mr. Stoddard, I can retract what I just said, and in order to express my apologies, I, like you, will never be involved in Alina's affairs from now on, let Mir decide for herself." β
"Good, very good, for the sake of fairness, I can only say one more thing."
Amos wasn't sure if Mary had told Alina anything before she entered the door, or if she had explained something that prevented Mir from staying in New Orleans, and he needed to keep Mir awake and take everything in stride.
"I now appoint Mr. Mill Edward as the man of New Orleansβ" Amos could not even remember the new word Mill had said, and he asked with great annoyance, "Mill, what is the name of the new word you just said?" β
"It's the detective, Uncle Amos."
"Yes, Detective, I now appoint Mr. Mill Edward as Federal Detective in New Orleans, with immediate effect, and the monthly expenses shall be paid by the Governor of the Military Administration of Louisiana, including any allowances."
Amos stood up half a body taller than Mary, almost seven feet tall, and even half a head taller than Ian, his long blond hair hanging down his ears, his body hair was vigorous, his hair glittered against the white skin and yellow light, his muscular figure was immensely powerful, waving his strong arms, he shouted loudly.
"In addition, the status of the detective is temporarily the same as that of Inspector Chris, except for my orders, you can send letters to my subordinates, and he can be at your disposal at any time."
Mary was intimidated by the majesty of Amos, she gradually lowered her head, and sighed silently, she now wanted to avoid Amos and run to the second floor, she was going to pack Alina's luggage.
Amos was relieved to see Mary's somewhat frightened expression and hurried upstairs, he was afraid that Mary would give Alina advice or give Mir a problem, so Amos had to do everything he could to get Mary away for a while.
After Amos took four of his men and said goodbye to Mir, Amos left Mir's house, and he was going to rush back to the Doge's Mansion overnight, because he would surprise Mir early tomorrow morning.
At this moment, Alina and Mir sat on the sofa, silent to each other, the downstairs was extremely quiet, and the upstairs was so noisy that in spite of all the other noises, it seemed that Mary's mouth could be heard muttering.
If he chooses not to return to France with Alina, he will never see Alina again, and if he chooses to leave New Orleans with Alina, then for Ian, his death will eventually be settled, and Amos will be disappointed in Mir.
Mir was waiting for Alina to speak first, to hear what she thought, he didn't want such a ridiculous conclusion to come up again, he just wanted the best of both worlds.
Just as Mir thought, Alina finally couldn't help but speak, her hands on her femur, tugging at the hem of her white skirt, and said, "Mir, I can give you a little time, after all, my father told me to hurry back as soon as possible." β
Mir knew that Alina wanted a clear attitude, about the question of the time to solve the case, it was not up to him to decide, if nothing else, the murderer would reveal clues in a short time, if according to Inspector Chris's conclusion, the murderer was a ghost, then the time would be longer, even years and decades.
"I understand, Alina, I don't know how long it will take to solve the murder..."
Alina interrupted Mir and said, "Yes, Mill, I know the case very well, and I know your mood even better, I heard Inspector Chris say that this case is very tricky, otherwise how would he let the ghost replace the murderer." β
Alina learned about the case from Inspector Chris and advised Mir to let him know how difficult this murder was, Alina didn't want to have any selfish intentions, she was saddened by Ian's death, but she wanted Mir to understand that it would take a long time to solve this case.
"No one knows you better than me now, your special insight, your background, even everything about you, as if you came here with some kind of mission, so I will not interfere with any of your thoughts, the only thing you can do now is to tell me the time to solve the murder, and I can wait for you in France and wait for your arrival."
Seeing that Mir bowed her head and remained silent, Alina was worried that Mir's illness would come at any time, and comforted him.
Mir raised his head instantly, endured the psychological pain, tried to be brave, and said, "Four years." β
"What? Oh, my God! Four years, that's too long. Alina exclaimed.
So much so that Mary on the second floor, holding her clothes in her hands, hid in the corner of the wall, leaned out and looked down at them, and Mary was worried that because of this, the two would have an unpleasant quarrel.
"I don't have that much patience, I'm not sure if I'm going to be in France..."
Alina felt that she had said the wrong thing, and she began to correct her words, and she had to make Mir feel in crisis, otherwise he would still hesitate.
"Forget it, I'll tell you the truth, the main reason why my father asked me to go back to France is that my father has already introduced me to another man, the son of the Prince of the French Empire, he wants to marry, he can always retain the position of Imperial Marshal At the same time, he wants to be knighted."
To Mir's surprise, Alina's words, as Ian had said, flashed in Mir's mind as if they were fresh in his memory, as if they were yesterday, but unfortunately, he went to see God first.
