Volume 1 The Philosopher's Stone Chapter 61 The Queen in the Mailbox

Martin followed Lady Lucia out of the underground hall of Capernaum, out of the cathedral, and out of the cathedral to the Place de la Roary.

The old woman looked at the statue of the Prophet in the square, her eyes shining with a glint of age.

"I have heard about this prophet for a long time, and I have seen it today."

"I think the people of this land should be very grateful to him."

"Whether it's the people of the present or the people of the past."

Martin's eyelids jumped when he heard this, and he restrained himself from making eye contact with the old woman.

Is this another level of implication?

Lady Lucia glanced at Martin, her gaze resting on his mask for a moment, and then she continued:

"I hear that this great prophet is still the dream girl of many of the maidens of Cavides."

The old woman covered her mouth and chuckled, a hint of sweetness could be vaguely seen between her eyebrows, she must have been a great beauty when she was young.

"No wonder his statues are so handsome and handsome, it's hard to imagine what a handsome gentleman he himself is."

"If I were forty years younger, I would definitely fall into an infatuation with him, and I would be unable to extricate myself."

Lady Lucia said this, and her eyes fell again on Martin's face.

Full of meaning.

"No, he's not as good as a statue..."

Martin complained to himself in his heart.

Who the hell is this old man? What is her relationship with the Queen? What does she know about this statue?

Martin had too many question marks in his mind, and he was looking forward to the [Black Cat Trail] where these questions would be answered.

When the old woman had said this, she got up again and left, and led Martin to the Rue de la Château, where a carriage was waiting.

The carriage was all black, with only one horse pulling it, and an oil lamp hung in front of the carriage, which emitted a soft glow.

The coachman was a spirited old man in a silk top hat, wearing a double-breasted gown, a light waistcoat and a dark gray tie, and gray gloves, which did not look like a coachman at all.

"Won't his hat be blown off when he's in the car..."

Martin glanced at the old man's collocation and muttered in his heart.

His mental activity seems to have been a little more active lately.

"Please come up, Mr. Martin."

Mrs. Lucia sat down first, and then said to Martin under the carriage.

"She knows my name... Did the Queen tell her? ”

Martin remembered that he had mentioned his name in correspondence with the Queen.

He boarded the carriage and sat down across from Lucia.

As soon as the coachman flicked his whip, the carriage moved slowly forward.

There were some bumps in the road, and Lady Lucia sat across from her, staring at Martin calmly.

This made Martin somewhat unnatural.

"Mr. Martin, where did you get this mask on your face?"

Lucia stared at Martin for a moment, and finally spoke, but asked a question.

Martin felt a little strange about this question, which was a bit different from Lucia's previous performance as a businessman, was she trying to talk?

"It's a gift."

Martin replied after a moment's pause.

Of course, he couldn't expose the existence of twin flames or gentleman's hats, this lady Lucia was not yet ripe to this extent.

He felt that the old woman was just looking for a topic, so he was sloppy and wanted to prevaricate, saying that the mask was a "gift" and could not be considered a lie, after all, he did not say who gave it to him.

"A gift..."

Lady Lucia was thoughtful.

"You know Shirley?"

She asked.

"Shirley?"

Martin was a little confused, he didn't have any impression of the name.

Seeing his reaction, Lucia thought for a while and continued to ask:

"Have you ever seen a red-haired girl with very white skin and likes to wear a black robe and a black shirt."

"Most importantly, she also wears your mask on her face."

The old woman casually showed a hint of anxiety and nervousness as she described the girl's dress and appearance, as if she wanted to confirm something.

Listening to Lucia's description, Martin's mind came to mind the shepherd who appeared when he was kidnapped by Johnny the "Meat Eater" and almost killed.

Martin recognized her as a woman, dressed in a black robe and with red hair, as the old woman had introduced, and Martin remembered that she had a rose tattoo on her chest.

The mask on Martin's face and the black robe on his body were all copied through "Red Flame", and the source was this woman.

Does Lucia know her?

Martin's mind flowed, this woman knew himself in the form of a giant dog at the time, this was his deepest secret, and he needed to hide it as much as possible, and he couldn't directly tell what happened that night.

Martin thought for a moment and replied:

"This girl you're talking about is a shepherd?"

Hearing the three words [shepherd], Lucia's eyes were no longer calm, she showed a deep look of worry, and sighed:

"Yes."

"That's my granddaughter, Shirley."

"She defied my dissuasion and insisted on becoming a bounty hunter with no tomorrow."

"It turns out that she came to Cavides and joined the [Shepherds' Club]."

Speaking of this girl, the mercenary philistine of Lady Lucia is gone, replaced by a heartfelt preference and concern for the younger generation.

"Where have you seen her?"

Lucia asked.

"Green Spider Street."

Martin replied.

"When I met her, she was 'hunting' a 'tainted' related to the Dark Alchemy, but she seemed to be in a difficult situation and was almost killed."

At this point, Martin paused, and he observed that Lady Lucia's expression immediately showed irrepressible worry as he paused.

This instantaneous look could not be faked, and Martin began to believe that Lucia really had a granddaughter named Shirley, and that this granddaughter was the shepherd who wanted to "hunt" Johnny.

He continued:

"I happened to be there at the time, so I helped her."

"She should have left unharmed and successfully completed the hunt, for I was on the first floor of the Sunflower Carriage and had seen the remnants of the contaminated one's extermination."

Martin deliberately said Johnny's [Dark Alchemy] identity and the fact that he saw the [Sweet Tooth Pocket] in the [Sunflower Carriage] in order to increase the credibility of his claim, after all, this is the truth.

In addition, by vaguely saying that she was "coincidentally" there and helping the girl, Lucia's attention was only focused on saving her granddaughter, and she subconsciously ignored why she happened to be there.

This is also a fact, the nose of the [actor's face] on his face does not grow.

Martin believes that Lucia must have known this characteristic of [The Actor's Face], and only needs to observe the changes in the mask to know if Martin is lying.

Martin had taken this into account when Lucia asked about the mask, and had been consciously avoiding lying and instead telling the truth one-sidedly.

Sure enough, after Martin finished speaking, Lucia glanced at the mask on his face almost without a trace, and then exhaled and nodded:

"Thank you very much for your help."

"This granddaughter of mine has wanted to be a bounty hunter like her father since she was a child, and in the first half of the year, she didn't listen to the persuasion of the people around her and ran away from home with a governess."

"I've been searching for her whereabouts, and I haven't found anything until I meet you."

When the old woman had said this, she leaned out and whispered something to the coachman.

The old man listened quietly as he steered the carriage steadily.

Then he took out a brass bird from his cuff, which resembled a shrunken carrier pigeon.

The old man leaned over and whispered something in the bird's ear, and then threw his left hand, only to see that the bird opened its wings the moment it left his hand, and with a few nimbly flapped it to ride the wind, and disappeared from sight in the blink of an eye.

"Tricks..."

Martin watched the brass bird "come to life" and fly away, and his worldview was refreshed again.

But he didn't show anything abnormal, and tried his best to maintain his cold personality.

Lady Lucia, on the other hand, reverted to her previous merchant smile after giving her instructions to the coachman, but Martin felt that the smile was more sincere than it had seemed before.

"If you can find Shirley, you've done me a great favor, Mr. Martin."

Lucia's tone was earnest.

"It seems that the Queen is right, you are a true gentleman, and a great writer and prophet."

Finally to the point!

When Martin heard the word Queen, he instantly perked up and asked:

"Did the queen ask you to come to me?"

Lucia smiled at the corner of her mouth.

"Yes."

"The Queen has instructed us to come to Cavides in the second half of this year, and to meet the Prophet in the basement of Capernaum Cathedral between December 3 and 12."

"She said that we could recognize the prophet at a glance, and that we were sure to say things like 'familiar things,' and that the prophet would be most interested in the mural [Black Cat]."

"The Queen's expression is so obscure that I can't understand why I recognize you at a glance until I met you."

Lucia smiled self-deprecatingly.

"But when I saw the same black robe on your body as Shirley and the [actor's face] on your face, I instantly understood."

"You are the prophet who has a soft spot for the Black Cat."

Lucia looked at Martin.

"It's probably a coincidence... I shouldn't have told the queen in a letter about copying [Actor's Face], and I didn't know I could ever meet you..."

Martin thought to himself.

"Queen, where is she now?"

He asked the question he wanted to know most.

From the interval of the mailbox to the chasm of time, Martin felt that he was getting farther and farther away from the mysterious queen who had helped him.

And now, there is a feeling that the foundation is about to succeed.

He was still a little excited.

Lucia heard his question and said with a slight sigh:

"It's been a long time since we've seen the Queen..."

"She mysteriously disappeared after leading us out of Atlantis from the Skyfire."

"No one knows where she went, and some say she ran away to house the 'bells' in the VIII reverse of spades."

"Legend has it that the negative effects of that reverse card are terrifying, and if it fails, it will bring unimaginable [calamity] and destroy everything around her."
