2 History of the Qin State

The poem says:

When will the fight for fame and fortune stop?

Waking up early and sleeping late is not free.

Riding a donkey, a mule, and a horse,

The prime minister of the official residence looked at the prince.

I only worry about food and clothing, and I am tired,

Why don't you be afraid that Yan Jun will take the hook.

Stepson Yin Sun Tu Fugui,

None of them will turn back.

But it is said that Dayu used copper to cast nine tripods. This copper should also be a combination of copper and tin, not pure copper.

The ancestor of the surname Ying is Dayu's water control assistant Boyi, and Boyi was given the surname Ying by Shun.

After the Xia Dynasty, it passed through the Shang Dynasty, and this period of history has been talked about in the Romance of the Gods, and the elements of legends account for the majority, so I won't talk about it here.

After King Wu built the Zhou, the great heroes and strategists, such as Lu Shang was sealed in Qi, Zhou Gongdan was sealed in Lu, Zhao Gongxiao was sealed in Yan, Shu Xian was sealed in Guan, and Shudu was sealed in Cai. It is said that at the beginning of the Zhou Dynasty, a total of 71 vassal states were divided, of which 15 were brotherly countries and 40 were countries with the same surname. The purpose of the feudal state was to strengthen its rule over various places and serve as a vassal of the Zhou royal family. The princes then divided the princes in their own fiefdoms, and the princes divided the feudal lords in their fiefs, so that they ruled the people from top to bottom. After the death of King Wu, his son Yu succeeded to the throne as King Cheng. When the king was young, the world was initially decided, and Zhou Gongdan was afraid that the princes would not accept it, so he took Uncle Wang as regent. Uncle Guan and Uncle Cai were not convinced, and Wu Geng, the son of Yin, led Huaiyi to launch a rebellion. Duke Zhou resolutely led his troops to the east, quelled the rebellion, killed Wu Geng and Uncle Guan, exiled Uncle Cai, and ambushed the remnants of Yin. In order to strengthen his rule over the East, the Duke of Zhou was ordered by King Cheng to take charge of the construction of Luoyi. After the completion of Luoyi, King Cheng personally came to the royal city of Luoyi, assembled the princes of the world and the rulers of Siyi, and moved the Yin remnants who followed the rebellion of Wu Geng into Chengzhou in order to control it. King Cheng personally crusaded against Dongyi and stabilized the east. After the death of King Cheng, King Kang, who succeeded to the throne, inherited the career of the previous king, was diligent in political affairs, approachable to the people, did not need to be punished for decades, and the society was more stable.

The three generations of Wu, Cheng and Kang, with clear politics, were the golden age of Zhou. But by the time of the fourth generation of King Zhao, the Son of Heaven, there was a crisis. King Zhao of Zhou was the Son of Heaven, and when he was patrolling the Han River in the south, he was plotted by the boatman with a special rubber boat and buried in the belly of the fish.

After King Mu, the Zhou Dynasty gradually declined, and by the time of the twelfth Son of Heaven, King Zhou You, the crisis of the dynasty was even more serious. When serious natural disasters such as earthquakes, landslides and river depletion occurred in the Guanzhong region, King Zhou You not only did not care for the victims, but became more extravagant and corrupt and insatiable. In order to win a smile from the favored concubine, King Youhu raised a beacon fire to deceive the princes to come to King Qin.

The most serious problem is that King You decided to depose the queen Shen and kill the crown prince Yijiu, and set up Bao Xi as the queen, and set up Bao Xi's son Bofu as the crown prince. Empress Shen's father, Shenhou, then united with the western tribe Dog Rong to raise troops to attack King Youyou of Zhou, and killed King You at the foot of Lishan Mountain.

When Yijiu, the son of King You, ascended the throne, Guanzhong was sacked by soldiers and ruined, and the dog Rong came to harass him from time to time. King Yijiu of Zhou Ping had to move the capital to Luoyi, which is known as King Ping's eastward move and the beginning of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty.

At this time, the princes stood side by side, each with their own territory, and fought with each other for many years. Although the Son of Heaven is above, they are powerless to stop it, and they swallow each other. By the time of the Warring States period, there were only seven great powers: Qin, Chu, Qi, Zhao, Han, Wei, and Yan, and Qin was the strongest.

Since then, the royal family has begun to weaken, and the era of Zhou Tianzi commanding the world is gone. The princes competed for hegemony, the great powers merged, and the dictatorship of the doctor and the struggle against Yixia came to the stage.

At this time, the Zhou royal family did not even have the nominal co-lord status, but it was still barely maintained in the Luoyang area. In the early years of the Western Zhou Dynasty, when Luoyi was built, a total of two cities were built. The seventeen miles in the west are called Wangcheng, and the smaller ones in the east are called Chengzhou. During the Warring States Period, due to the internal struggle for power and division of the royal family, there were successively the Western Zhou Dukes who lived in the royal city and the Eastern Zhou Dukes who took Gongyi (now Gongxian County, Henan) as the capital, and the real Son of Heaven Zhou Xian Wang lived under the rule of the Eastern Zhou Duke. In the fifty-ninth year of King Zhou (256 years ago), the Qin army captured Yangcheng and Negative Millet in Korea, and King Qin Zhao sent troops to attack the Western Zhou, and the Western Zhou Jun had to dedicate all his 36 yi to Qin, and the Western Zhou perished. In the same year, King Zhou died, and the Zhou Dynasty, as the country of the Son of Heaven, ceased to exist.

But it is said that the first generation of Qin's distant ancestor was a female cultivator, and one day the female cultivator picked up a bird's egg, and after eating it, she became pregnant, and gave birth to a son called Daye, and the son of Daye is called Da Fei, and Da Fei is Boyi.

After a few generations, Boyi passed on to evil, and evil came to good and went powerfully, helping to abuse the evil, and punishing the king together.

The fifth grandson of the evil came to live in Inuqiu, and he raised horses for King Xiao of Zhou, who liked him very much and sealed him in Qinyi.

From Feizi to Mu Gong, there were fourteen monarchs in the Qin State, and they were generally passed from father to son, and only one generation was a brother and a brother; The other generation is brother to brother.

Qin Mugong reigned for thirty-nine years, he was a bright monarch, eager to seek talents. Magnanimous, eloquent, and mistaken.

Baili Xi is a native of Chu State, worked as a doctor in Yu State, Jin State destroyed Yu State, Baili Xi was captured, became a slave, and was designated by Jin Xiangong to be his daughter's follower, and followed his daughter to Qin State as one of the slaves to marry. Baili Xi fled halfway and fled to the state of Chu. But he was detained by the countrymen of Chu and became a slave of these countrymen.

Someone reported this to Qin Mugong, who immediately sent officials to the state of Chu and bought Baili Xi with five ram skins, and he relieved Baili Xi of his slave status and appointed him as a great official.

Baili Xi said: "I have a friend named Uncle Jian who has better insights than me. He advised me not to be a doctor of Yu State, but I didn't listen, so I was captured as a slave by the Jin army. Qin Mugong immediately sent someone to the state of Chu and invited Uncle Jian as well. and Baili Xi together with reuse.

Qin Mugong was hunting in Qishan one day, and he enclosed the horse in a tree, but he didn't circle it well, and the horse ran to the street of the city and was caught by a few ordinary people.

Lao Baiwa didn't know that this horse was the horse of their king, so he slaughtered the horse in a daze, roasted it to eat, and many people gathered to see the excitement, and the more they gathered, there were more than 300 people. They all tasted more or less the horse's meat, and those who ate more ate several pieces; Those who ate less ate only one or two pieces.

Joyful and sad, they were captured by the soldiers at the end of the picnic. That's when they learned that they had committed a heinous crime. Lives are not guaranteed. Qin Mugong sent someone to bring wine to them and said: "You are eating a good horse, you must drink wine after eating the meat of a good horse, otherwise you may be poisoned, you hurry up and drink, and after drinking, you will go home." These more than 300 people were overjoyed and grateful.

Before Duke Mu and Duke Xiao, the Qin State was often in civil strife, and there were sixteen monarchs. When King Tianzi of Zhou saw the rapid progress of Qin, he sent people to Xianyang to give Qin Xiaogong the "gizzard meat" used to worship his ancestors, and at the same time called him the uncle of the princes. Qin Xiaogong also sent his son-in-law and young officials to the princes of the Fengze Conference and led them to Luoyang to worship Zhou Tianzi.

Among the many strange laws of the Qin State, there is one that is difficult for modern men to accept, this law stipulates that all adult men are not allowed to cry, and if they cry, they will be punished heavily.

In modern life, because we are far away from war and enjoy a prosperous life, adult men often have some tears, tears of reunion after a long absence, tears of divorce, and even tears of joy. It stands to reason that in modern life we are accustomed to seeing tears, although men do not flick when they have tears, but they still have to shed tears at critical moments.

With the changes of history, many provisions of the laws of the Qin State are very incomplete, but in some historical records, we can see some shadows to a greater or lesser extent. From the Qin Jian unearthed at the beginning, to the more or less depiction of Zhang Yong's wife when he died, the Qin State clearly stipulated that adult men who shed tears must be punished, and the specific content of the punishment is to shave off the beard and eyebrows. The effect of this law is extremely strict, even after the death of his wife, he can't shed tears, he can only say with emotion that there is a law in the Qin State that men are not allowed to shed tears.

We can imagine that if we travel to the Qin State, or the Qin Dynasty, not to mention whether we can adapt to the living conditions there, we will not be able to shed tears, this estimate is that we will suffer, because in that primitive era, everyone has to go to war, there will be fights and brawls every day, and all kinds of environments stimulate us, it is inevitable that there will be a kind of homesick tears, or injured tears, as long as the tears will be shaved off the beard and eyebrows, and sometimes even beaten by the surrounding executive officials, I have to say how bad it is to feel this kind of crossing.

So the question is, why did the Qin State back then engage in such a strange law and not allow others to shed tears? According to some historical speculations, many scholars believe that the Qin State was a country that absolutely admired force, and that the whole country had changed that degenerate atmosphere from the bottom of its bones since the Shang Dynasty reform. The Qin State forced people to work hard with absolute laws, and at the same time did not allow any obscenity in the country. Therefore, tears, as an extremely depressed thing, are naturally looked down upon by many Qin people, and even the law does not allow it.

Because the soldiers of the Qin State were educated since they were young, they were not afraid of death and bravely rushed to the front line, and paid all the price for military merits, so they could not shed tears or kneel. Therefore, controlling emotions became a major feature of the militarism of the Qin State at that time, even the emotions were controlled, and then everyone was encouraged to fight for the sake of the country and for merit, how could such a country not become a country of tigers and wolves, how could it not become a war machine, and it was no wonder that it would unify the world.

After Qin Xiaogong, before Qin Shi Huang, there were five kings: King Huiwen, King Wu, King Zhaoxiang, King Xiaowen, and King Zhuangxiang. King Huiwen reigned for twenty-seven years, King Wu reigned for four years, and King Zhaoxiang reigned for fifty-six years. King Xiaowen reigned for three days, and King Zhuangxiang reigned for three years.

However, it was said that King Zhuang Xiang's name was Yiren, and he entered the Zhao Kingdom, and later changed his name to Zichu, and his biological mother was Xia Ji.

Neither the mother nor the son were favored by An Guojun [later King Xiaowen], and An Guojun had more than 20 children, so the Yiren was sent to Handan, Zhao State, as a proton. At that time, the relations between Qin and Zhao deteriorated, and wars broke out from time to time. He lacked a carriage and horses for travel and daily belongings, and his life was embarrassing and frustrated.

Lu Buwei, a great businessman who defended the country, did business in Handan, and he was talented and shrewd. When he was a child, Guiguzi was taught the law of physiognomy, and he was good at getting along. When he saw the stranger, he praised it repeatedly: "Strange goods can live!" "At that time, the stranger returned to the house with his grandson.
