Chapter 22: Find a New Love
Chrysler Lodge Lyon, Saint-Denis:
John sat cross-legged on the bed, quietly looking at the book with a cowhide cover on the shelf, and on it fell five big words - hope for the future. Whether it was himself or in this damn age, John really didn't know where the "hope" came from. This only exists in fairy tales, he thought, and now even children scoff at these empty words......
John stood up and walked to the bedside, looking through the window at an infinite stretch of the street, a sight that reminded him of Reagan County's Main Streetβa neatly planked road lined with woodcutter's freshly chopped logs, perhaps squatting on the wood for a woman and a child, who were waiting eagerly for the men of the family to come home.
It was his family, Ashley and Jason Jr., a happy family of three that was John's only spiritual home, except that John had temporarily left his gentle home and traveled thousands of miles to eliminate the enemies of the family, and Miller had told him that in order to live a good life, he had to eliminate hidden dangers.
As it stands, there is no greater threat than Detective Pinkerton, and although John has not been threatened by Detective Pinkerton since he came to South Oakland, John knows that he can't let his guard down in the face of elusive detectives, and if he leaves Vanderlinde and returns to Reagan County now, Pinkerton and the police will most likely encircle John at an inn on the way home, at least in the days when Owen was still in power.
So John Coster firmly believes that he should integrate into the gang, tie his interests to it, and find another way out......
"Ha, baby John!" Catherine burst into the room and slapped her fat hands to attract attention, "Would you like to do something exciting with me?" β
"I have something to do." John said coldly.
Syllable! Catherine slammed the door with her backhand, and the sound hit John in the face like a slap, which was her response to him, and John trembled with fright, and before he could react, he felt a long-lost touch coming, and one of Catherine's fat hands had already advanced along John's neck to the chest with two stacks of wheat.
"Don't make a fuss." John said with a pretense of ferocity.
Catherine ignored it, her hands still groping down the curves of John's body, like a torrent rolling forward, touching every piece of skin with unquenchable passion. Seeing that John did not resist, Catherine rested her chin on John's broad shoulders and whispered in her honey-soaked voice to one ear on her neck.
"If you're tired, take a break, baby."
At the same moment as Catherine spoke, there was a rush of footsteps, the sound of the heels of his leather boots squeezing against the floor, followed by the creaking of the door opening, and John's room welcomed a second guest.
"Hmm...... Excuse me. I admit I didn't expect your relationship to come to this point. Ducky said, standing in the doorway.
Hearing Ducky say this, Catherine snuggled up to John, as if she were happy to show others this wonderful union.
"This young lady, I have something to do with your husband, please move your body for a while."
Miss Catherine reluctantly got up and left a paragraph.
"You men......"
When Catherine walked away, Dudge put away his polite tone and posture and sat on the bed against John.
"Brother Coaster, I don't think you're taking the initiative, and if you might not like it, Catherine may not have done it to you...... I don't mean to offend, just ......" Ducky winked at John.
John nodded helplessly, not knowing what to say.
"However, I was right to put the two of you together, you should find the love of your life at this age, a man can't be alone for life, especially in this ever-changing world, you must find a way to continue life and faith." Dudge sighed and said, "I had a chance, but I lost my way. β
"So, Mr. van der Linde, are things progressing?" John asked.
"Oh, the subject changed a little abruptly, but we've achieved something very good, and it's enough to sweep away all the unpleasantness, don't you say, John?"
"Or those Prohibitions?"
Ducky nodded: "Chance - that's its real name, the chance to keep us alive." John, before we carry out the big operation, we need to meet with the mayor and get some way out of him, and say that the official point is to follow the local customs. β
"We climbed the mayor so early, so what should we do?"
"For the past two days, Fantesi has been stepping on the rows of mansions on the southwest boulevard of Saint-Denis, and according to what I know about the city, it is the residence of the city officials, and he found that a grand event is coming in the wealthy area of Saint-Denis, the quadrennial wine tasting festival, and you should have guessed that moonshiners are the most rampant at this time, so we asked the mayor to see which of the moonshiners usually like it."
"Ducky, I have to say it's a clear idea, but you're missing the fatal point: with our status, it's a problem to meet with the mayor." John sighed.
"Don't be discouraged, the mayor of Saint-Denis is more open-minded, he is willing to listen to anything interesting, although I have some misunderstandings with him, but our relationship is ...... It continues to develop unhurriedly as before. β
"A relationship based on money is like a car wheel without a bolt, and it cannot be considered reliable."
"I don't know anything else, if Mayor Lemieuux wants to make money, he will have to work with me, and you have to trust me for that matter, my plan will work at any time." Daqi crossed Erlang's legs and put on a very smug pose, "I can be above the law and he can't." β
"I hope so." John shrugged.
"Cheer up, man, some hillbillies like to watch us fall into the grief of our companion's death, but we have to see in the abyss the hope of getting up, hoping that when you are in a life or death you are more useful than the passion of playing with a woman, especially if the enemy is Detective Pinkerton. Prepare! This is a rare opportunity. β
Ducky stood up as he spoke, staring at John with both eyes on him, and this kept him at the threshold, John looked behind him and saw Catherine leaning on the threshold, and Ducky went out trying to squeeze a little disdain out of the corner of her eye, and then patted her buttocks vigorously at the sight of the two men, like urging an animal to be fed by the fence.
"Fat pig, go in!"
