Preface 1 The ambition to help the world and the benevolent heart

Zhang Jin's book was published, and I am very happy.
I have known Zhang Jin for many years. I still remember that in the summer of 1988, on July 31, 22-year-old Zhang Jin graduated from the journalism department of Chinese People's University, standing in front of me with a childish face, and the scene was like yesterday. At that time, I was in charge of the international news department at the Workers' Daily, and he gave me a job as a reporter and editor. In 2000, Zhang Jin joined Caijing, and later we founded Caixin Media together. Now, he is a core member of the Caixin team.
I still remember when we were in the Workers' Daily, Zhang Jin was working hard, and suddenly he got jaundice hepatitis, his whole body was yellow, and he was hospitalized urgently, which seemed to be a disaster from the sky. I went to see him, and I was touched to see that he was a cheerful and open-minded young man in his 20s, and he had some understanding of life. Luckily, the disease was cured quickly and left with little to come, which is certainly not surprising in people with hepatitis A. But I have always felt fortunate and felt that Zhang Jin's calmness about the disease has an effect.
Later, our colleagues have been through ups and downs for many years, ups and downs, and have formed a deep friendship for more than 20 years, and I have always felt that he is so optimistic, upward, young, straightforward, and promising. Unexpectedly, three years ago, he suddenly suffered from depression. I wasn't familiar with the disease at the time, but I saw that this time it was different, and I didn't know what the problem was or how to help him get through it.
In the midst of the scabies, Zhang Jin took a detour for half a year and suffered a lot. Our hearts ache and we can't do anything about it. Later, he relied on the help of friends and fortunately met a good doctor, and once the symptoms were treated, he recovered quickly. We were truly overjoyed, how happy we were.
Many people who suffer from depression are secretive and ashamed to admit that they have had the disease. Zhang Jin is not. This time, he faced life calmly as always. On the third day of his condition, he wrote about his experience during his illness and published it on his blog. He told me that many patients, their families, and society are too unfamiliar with depression, and he wants to make his experience public, hoping that other patients will learn a lesson, take fewer detours, and suffer less.
After that, he devoted a lot of energy, combined with his own situation, to study depression. While studying, interviewing, and writing, he wrote a series of reports and articles to share his experience with patients.
After his article became influential, patients across the country approached him for help. He always does his best and there are some patients who have benefited from his help.
I always feel that Zhang Jin is not a professional after a doctor; His own insights and experiences on depression are mainly for reference. And I am very appreciative of his frankness and sincerity, his kind wishes, and his willingness to help the world solve problems for patients.
Today's society is much more complex than before, and the contradictions, pressures, and challenges that people encounter are much greater. How to relieve stress and maintain a good mood is everyone's lifelong homework. Zhang Jin's book, starting from his own feelings and experiences, not only has theoretical knowledge, but also combines a large number of cases to answer these questions in simple terms, which I believe will be beneficial to readers.
Zhang Jin is a talented journalist with a deep literary cultivation. His book is not only informative, informative but also interesting, and the text is quite aftertaste. This is another important value of this book.
Hu Shuli is the editor-in-chief of Caixin Media.
