Preface 2 Patients with depression should have the courage to seek help

Jiang Tao

As Zhang Jin's doctor, it is a great honor to be invited to write the foreword to his new book.

Zhang Jin is just one of many patients I have been practicing medicine for 24 years. When he first came to see me three years ago, it had been delayed for a while, and his symptoms were a little complicated. However, as long as the diagnosis is correct and the use of drugs is reasonable, it is not too difficult to deal with; He thought the results were amazing, and in my opinion, it wasn't a big deal.

In my opinion, Zhang Jin recovered well, and in addition to the treatment in place, his will, perseverance and treatment compliance played a big role. After Zhang Jin was clinically cured, he became interested in psychiatry and studied hard, and after a long time, he became half an expert. Zhang Jin's book, starting from the patient's feelings, makes a multi-level and multi-angle interpretation of depression, which is simple and fascinating, and many places are clearer than our doctors, which is not easy.

Now the word "depression" is on the lips of many people, in fact, the understanding of this disease in Chinese is still in a very early stage. China only promulgated its first Mental Health Law of the People's Republic of China in December 2012; There is a shortage of 400,000 psychiatrists, far behind developed countries. Many people fail to face depression. If you don't admit it, outsiders don't understand.

I have a friend who runs his own company and has hundreds of employees, and regularly goes on vacations all over the world to hunt and buy all kinds of luxury goods. Obviously, he belongs to the successful people in the eyes of others. But few people know that there is a big crocodile living inside him, biting his emotions and pulling them down. The scenery on the surface can't make up for the misery of his inner world.

He thought about saving himself, resigned from his job, left the hustle and bustle of the city, and ran to live in the vast mountains for more than a month. It seemed to be alive and understood, and it was indeed easy to come back for a while, but it was soon dragged into the water by the crocodile again. He asked himself: Do you want to go to the mountains again, or to live and think in the desert? Or die? After several struggles, he turned to the hospital for help.

He was diagnosed with typical depression. Depression does have the possibility of self-healing, but the rate is not high. Psychotherapy has a certain role, but medication is the most certain. But the patient's first reaction was to solve the problem on his own, until he wanted to commit suicide. For such a part of depressed mood carriers or depressed patients who are unwilling to go to the hospital, if they can learn the knowledge of depression and master the correct coping methods, the success rate of treatment can be greatly improved. This will go a long way towards improving the happiness index of society.

Zhang Jin's book can play this role. Currently, depression books fall into two categories. One is the theoretical type, which is placed in the medical area of the bookstore; The other type is mainly storytelling and psychotherapy, which is placed in the health area or psychological area. Most readers will choose the latter because the former is obscure and boring. Zhang Jin's book narrates the whole process of his illness from illness, external intervention, clinical cure, to helping others, expounds the problems and solutions that patients with depression may encounter when returning to society, and also discusses how to overcome negative emotions and relieve life pressure. From the perspective of a person who has come before, he combines theory and practice, which is both scientific and story-based, and I believe that he can give a lot of help to many patients.

If you're not that successful and find yourself not motivated to move upward, read this book;

If you are successful in the eyes of others, but deep down depressed, you can also read this book.

As a physician and educator who aims to promote people's mental health, one of my missions is to help people manage their emotions and achieve physical and mental health. Therefore, in this preface, I would like to amplify the voice of the clinician and express my wishes. May people all over the world suffering from depression and other mental illnesses learn the right way to deal with it, get rid of the disease as soon as possible, and live a normal life.
