Mahouts
In the world, it is inevitable that our bodies will be sick and our minds will be troubled. However, when something goes wrong, remember that as long as your heart and mind are for the sake of the public and for the benefit of others, then your heart will always be in a state of peace and happiness. As long as a person can be confident and happy in life spiritually, he will naturally be happy on the outside; If you are not happy inside, even if you live in a luxurious and magnificent villa, no matter how good the external environment is, it will not bring happiness. Buddhism says that "if the heart is pure, the land is pure", if the heart is not pure, how can it be possible to feel that the external environment is so beautiful and magnificent? So, you have to change from within yourself.
Secondly, there are many things in the world that you really want to change, or don't want them to happen, but the world is impermanent, and often it doesn't fulfill your wishes. So we can face our troubles with this thinking: when you have the ability to change what has happened, you don't have to worry because you can change it; When you don't have the power to change it, you don't need to worry about it, because it's useless to worry about it, and there's no way to change it. This kind of thinking can be very useful when we are faced with many worldly realities.
If you want to make your life beautiful, happy, and happy, the point is still to be grateful. If you can learn to be grateful, many worldly jealousies, troubles, and hatreds will disappear. Actually, Buddhism is very life-oriented. Everything we do every day is related to our devout faith, so we give thanks to the blessings of the Buddha and Bodhisattvas for everything we do, including three meals a day, and try to act from the perspective that the Buddha taught. People in modern society can't do this, but they have to learn to be grateful at all times, especially to the Buddha; Because of the Buddha's great compassion, we have such good fortune in this life. Secondly, learn to be grateful to all the people around you. Because you can never be a successful person without the efforts of others: without employees, the boss can never succeed; Without a family, it is impossible for a parent to succeed; Children who do not have parents cannot succeed in having a human body.
Whenever and wherever you are, you have to look inside yourself: whether what I am saying, what I am doing, what I am thinking in my heart, whether it is in harmony with what the Buddha said, whether it is developing according to good thoughts. Look at yourself for self-interest and hurt others at all costs, or know how to go beyond yourself and benefit others. If it's the latter, keep trying to make it grow, and it will bring you a lot of happiness and peace.
In the time of the Buddha, there was a time when the king asked an animal trainer to subdue an elephant. After the elephant was subdued, the mahout gave it to the king. The king adorned the elephant with gold treasures and rode it through the streets. Halfway through, the elephant suddenly went berserk and ran around, and the crowd could not be subdued, and then the king grabbed a branch so that the elephant did not fall to his death. When the king returned to the palace, he was very angry and blamed the mahouts for not doing his duty and wanted to kill them. The mahouter pleaded: "I have really subdued it. The king said, "I don't believe you!" The mahout said, "Don't kill me, king, but see if I can subdue it." So he took a handful of iron bars that were burning red, and threw them in front of the elephant, asking him to roll it up with his trunk. Sure enough, the elephant rolled up the iron bar as instructed. When the king saw this, he was incredulous, and wondered why he had gone mad at that time without any oppression, and now that his whole nose was about to burn, he did not dare to put down the bar. He asked the mahout, "Why do elephants have such emotions?" The mahouts replied, "O king, I can only subdue the body of an elephant, but not its heart." So when its heart was greedy, it went crazy in search of the mother elephant. Now, its desires are satisfied, so that the flesh that I have subdued can do such things. ”
From this story, it can also be understood that in order to truly subdue a person's heart and change one's habits, one must subdue it in a loving way, with true compassion. If there is only beating and scolding or other physical punishments, it can only subdue his body, but not his heart.
In the mind, the seeds of good or evil must have a time when they ripen, so in order to be happy, we need to first remove the bad distractions from our minds. For example, when our greed is too hot, we try our best to have everything for our own satisfaction. The endless expansion of greed will bring us great harm, because it is impossible for everything to be perfect, including the possession of external material things and the needs of the inner mind; And the possession of external material things is never as meaningful as spiritual satisfaction. Originally, there is no good or bad difference between the two, but the spiritual mind is relatively easy to satisfy, and if the spirit is not satisfied, the external material needs will never be satisfied.
It's like when we already own a house, we want to have a bigger house; After owning a bigger house, he wanted to become an official and treat the whole village as his own; After owning a village, you want to be a county magistrate and own a county, and finally you want to be the leader of a country, and you may even fantasize: how good it would be if the whole world belonged to you and was governed by yourself. A person with this mentality has endless pursuits. The mentality of endless pursuit can be divided into two types: "diligence" and "greed". If you try to be satisfied, that's right, but if you don't observe it carefully, you have to be cautious when this effort leads to unfulfilled suffering, because it has turned into greed. Therefore, it is not that we should not work hard, but that we should not breed greed.
If we are not easily satisfied spiritually, under the dominance of this unsatisfied strong desire, everything in life will not go well; Even the process of passing away will not go smoothly, because people will cling to everything in this life. I often find that many children are not filial to their parents, and when their parents are facing death, because of their strong compassion, they are still thinking about their families, thinking about why their children have not come, worrying that their children have not yet bought a house, have not yet started a family, and so on.
In addition, when you have or do not get it because of greed, other hatred, jealousy, and arrogance arise along with it. When desires are fulfilled, they will of course be happy for a short time, and will have a strong sense of pride towards those who do not get all this; And when hope is disappointed, there is jealousy towards the person who has all this, and this jealousy is endless. Therefore, we often say that greed, hatred, ignorance, jealousy, and arrogance will bring suffering, and we should give it up, and we should pull our hearts back to the original point, so that our hearts are full of true goodness and purity.
If the heart is not adjusted, then no matter how hard we work forward, we will face a lot of troubles and problems waiting for us to deal with, but in the process of dealing with it, due to inner instability and emotional distress, it is difficult for us to look at the problem and deal with the problem rationally. No matter how people dress up and pay attention to the outside, if they don't pay attention to the inside and nourish the mind, then the chaotic heart will also make our life in chaos.
