Chapter 3: Change
At night, Varina sat quietly at her table with no lights.
If all goes according to normal, he should be studying himself with borrowed books under the light of whale oil lamps at this time. It was through his cousin, who was studying grammar at the University of Beckland, that he cherished the opportunity.
But there are no ifs.
During the day, reminded by his colleague John, he discovers something special about his presence: his body is more coordinated than before, he can see in the dark, and he is still difficult for others to detect.
This is undoubtedly a transcendent trait.
Unexpectedly, before he could verify it, the extraordinary power found the door by himself, and now the dream memory seemed more real and credible.
But why do you have extraordinary qualities in yourself?
Varina pondered for a long time and found a possible explanation – his parents.
Both of his parents died when he was very young, and if they had ever been transcendental, it was indeed possible that he had inherited some of his transcendent traits.
And in this way, his awakened dream memories can also be seen as the guidance left by his parents to help him become a transcendent being?
Then, Varina's reasoning goes further—which "divine path" does his own trait belong to?
"Body Coordination", "Dark Vision", "Shadow Hide"
Taken together, these qualities led him to a conclusion that he could hardly accept - the Assassin path.
That's not a good way to go.
Varina had countless curiosities and speculations about her deceased parents' past when she came to this conclusion. And after that, he felt pain for himself.
Those who have read the original book know that the assassin path is also known as the witch path, and the sequence 7 potion is called "witch", and drinking it will make a man change into a woman.
And he doesn't want to be a woman!
It's easy to do, as long as he gives up promotion to Sequence 7 after becoming a transcendent. This solves the problem of short life caused by transcendent traits and does not change gender.
But there are problems with this choice.
Extraordinary power does exist, so the theory of the end of the world in more than ten years can basically be believed to be true. Varina couldn't remember the reason for the end times, but she knew that it was a catastrophe that even the true God could not resist.
He asked himself, can he really stay in the weak sequence 8 and leave his fate in the hands of others?
"No, no!"
Varina easily heard her own heart, two.
"Then it seems that there is only one choice - continue to advance in the 'Witch' path, and when you reach Sequence 4, you will switch to the 'Hunter' path and turn back into a man."
Varina comforted herself in her heart:
"It's like playing a drag game, anyway, in another memory, there are not a few games of female protagonists he has played."
"The path of the Assassins is better than those dead-end paths where the ascending path is completely blocked......
After a long mental journey, Varina's thinking has come to fruition.
First, the study of the ancient versak and the Hermetic language lays the foundation for the later mastery of the Giants and the ancient Hermetic languages, which can be said to be the occult languages that must be mastered by the professional transcendent.
Second, to get in touch with the circle of the Extraordinary, to pursue the recipes and materials of the Assassin's potions—this would require a lot of gold pounds, and with his current conditions, he would probably have to use some illegal means.
Having set his goal, Varina felt a lot more relaxed, and he turned his head to look out the window, where the Tasok River was still sparkling in the moonlight, and the night obscured its turbidity, leaving only beautiful light and shadow.
It's halfway past the night, and it's time to go to bed.
……
Early in the morning, Varina went out earlier than yesterday, in the opposite direction from yesterday.
Today is his day off, and he is going to Beckland University to meet his cousin.
It was an engagement that lasted more than a year. It is precisely by virtue of this agreement that he has a channel to borrow books for self-study.
Varina packed the books he needed to return and the only formal clothes he had, and walked all the way until he was out of the East End after more than an hour.
Next, he had to go to the subway station at the intersection of the East End and the Beckland Bridge area, and then take the West End and then transfer to the public carriage.
Such a trip that spanned most of the city took a lot of time and money for Varina.
Towards noon, he finally arrived at his destination, and once again saw the castle-like buildings and grand gates of Beckland University.
With a black vest, a formal suit of the same color, neat dark trousers, and a top hat, Varina suddenly became handsome in a formal suit.
Dressed like this, he looked like a student here.
After having a lunch at a nearby restaurant, which was considered a luxury to him, he went to the student dormitory and knocked on his cousin's door.
The door opened, and a rather handsome face poked out, smiling at the sight of Varina.
"Cousin, you're here, come in and sit."
He opened the door, revealing a figure taller than Varina, and reached out to lead Varina to the reception area to sit down, then turned to his feet.
"Reyes, don't bother, I'm not a guest."
Reyes laughed, his hands on it. Soon, he placed a cup of coffee in front of Varina.
"A cup of coffee to relieve the fatigue of the trip."
"I also prepared the business textbooks you wanted, three books, mainly related to accounting, I will go and get them to you."
Varina stopped him apologetically:
"Wait."
"This time I'd like to borrow an introductory textbook in Gufsak and Hermes, and preferably another page of Russell's ciphertext notes for me."
"I know I'm asking for something abrupt, but it's important to me and I hope you can help me."
Reyes sat down next to him and asked, "Why did you suddenly become interested in these unpopular languages?" Don't you plan to become an accountant? ”
He groaned slightly, and then said, "It's not a big problem to borrow books, but when do you want them?" As for Russell's notes, I can't guarantee that. ”
"I'll come back tomorrow, okay?"
"Tomorrow, so urgent?" Reyes frowned, "Is something wrong?" ”
"There's something going on, but I can handle it myself."
Varina said, taking out two more books from the cloth bag and pushing them on the table, "This is to be returned." ”
Reyes glanced at it casually, but did not see the note with the question written, and a new doubt arose:
"Is there no problem this time, do you need me to help you ask a mentor?"
"There were, but now it's settled."
"Alright then," Reyes said, standing up, "I'll do my best to help." ”
"Cousin, have you had lunch? We can be together. ”
Varina shook her head and declined:
"No, I've already eaten it."
"Then please, I'll go back."
Reyes sighed, "Hi, you're always like that. ”
"I'll send you."
