Chapter 4: Evaluation

In the evening, Varina returned from the West End to the Beckland Bridge area.

He came here in search of the "Bar of the Brave".

Of course, this time he just came to explore the way in advance, and had no intention of making further contact.

Although he has information from another memory, in fact, every step he takes is stepping into an unknown area, and being able to confirm one or two in advance will make him feel a lot more grounded.

Varina remembers that the Brave's Bar in the Bridge District was a meeting point for the Extraordinary's circle, but doesn't remember exactly which street it was on.

He searched all the way and spent a lot of time, and finally found the bar on Iron Gate Street, and saw its dark wooden gate and the big man guarding the door.

"Sure enough, there is this bar! But I still won't go in today, and I'll come back when I'm ready. ”

Varina withdrew her scrutinizing gaze and continued down the street as if she were passing by, quickly leaving Iron Gate Street at the other end.

Nearly two hours later, after dinner outside, Varina finally returned to his own little world. After taking a bath, he leaned lazily on the head of the bed, vaguely thinking of ways to make money, and soon fell asleep.

……

At noon the next day, Varina again came to the dormitory of Beckland University.

Although each rotation was only one day, he had discussed it with John beforehand, and exchanged a rotation with him, getting two consecutive days of slack.

“…… I don't know if it's your good luck or mine, haha, anyway, when I asked my classmates for Russell's notes, it quickly got a reward. ”

Varina couldn't help but laugh when she heard this. He gently pushed away the ordinary cup of coffee in front of him and placed the book handed by his cousin in front of him.

"Let me see ......"

Two books, "On the Origin of the Old Phossack Language" and "Introduction to Hermesianism", are sandwiched between them by a note, presumably the Rossell notes that Reyes was talking about.

Varina picked up the one on it and flipped through a few pages at random, but in fact he was observing the contents of the note with his peripheral vision.

He was so desperate to confirm the dream memories through Russell's ciphertext, to the point of impatience.

A line of Chinese Simplified Chinese, skewed and twisted, enlarged and distorted, quickly recognized by Varina:

"March 6th, damn it, I'm about to be constipated after eating the food here!"

His pupils shrank suddenly.

Astound!

Even though she felt mentally prepared, Varina was still stunned and felt her scalp tingle.

It's all true!

So Russell is sure that it is undoubtedly the so-called traverser!

"At the same time, so am I?"

It was as if Varina had suddenly returned to the night of awakening her memory, once again facing that seemingly ordinary and terrible question - who am I?

Previously, he relied on doubts about the authenticity of that memory and his unchangeable external identity to barely suppress another personality. But as he verified it step by step, especially the lore of Russell's diary, he was once again in danger.

Moments later, Reyes noticed something was wrong with Varina.

He first noticed that Varina was in a daze when he got the book, but he thought that the other party was learning or memorizing a certain text. It wasn't until he noticed that Varina's expression was starting to stiffen and distort a little that he realized a little vaguely:

Something happened.

"Hey, cousin, are you okay?"

Reyes subconsciously patted Varina on the shoulder and asked with concern in his eyes.

"Huh?"

Varina came to her senses, "Ahem, I'm fine, I just remembered something. ”

He quickly closed the book in his hand and re-pressed it onto the note, obscuring the crooked lines of Chinese characters. Then, instinctively, he looked at his cousin and asked:

"Reyes, I want to ask you a question, what kind of person do you think I am?"

This question is difficult to answer.

Reyes wanted to make a few jokes to deal with it, but an inexplicable restlessness prevented him from doing so, so he leaned back in his chair and spoke:

"In my eyes, you are a strong person."

Varina was a little surprised: "It's that simple? ”

Reyes raised his hand and motioned to Varina not to worry, and then continued:

"You never ask for help unless you have to, that's why I say you're a strong person."

"Other than that, you're a kind person."

"Maybe you usually act like a cold personality and have a hard time getting close to each other, but that's just the appearance, in essence, it's because you're afraid of disturbing others, which is a special kind of kindness."

Speaking of which, Reyes turned to look at Varina and smiled reluctantly, "That's pretty much it, and I'm going to talk about the shortcomings." ”

"No, say more!"

Varina's expression was a little excited, because he found that Reyes's seemingly frivolous words made him feel a lot more relaxed.

"Do you want to say more?" Reyes was a little distressed, and continued to speak hesitantly: "Your shortcomings are actually those just now. ”

"It's hard for someone like you to build enough connections."

"In other words, if you don't make changes, you need to put in more effort than the average person to have a happy life."

At the end, Reyes sat up suddenly, stared into Varina's eyes and asked:

"Cousin, why don't you try to change it once?"

This question shocked Varina's heart, and her cousin seemed to sense something.

But that's not something he can help with.

Thinking of this, Varina drank the coffee on the table, then got up, pretending not to hear his cousin's advice:

"Thank you for your review, Reyes."

"That's all for today, it's time for me to go back."

Reyes followed suit, "Okay, see you next month." ”

……

Seven o'clock in the evening.

Iron Gate Street, Brave Bar.

Varina pushed the door open and entered, and was immediately greeted by the strange smell of alcohol and the cacophony inside.

He was uncomfortable with the environment, but still frowned and looked for the bar, and squeezed through.

"A glass of Southwell beer."

He lacks knowledge of alcohol and can only imitate Klein's choices from memory.

"5pence."

The bartender behind the bar glanced at Varina, "If you're drinking for the first time, I suggest you try 'Half and Half', which is a bit softer than the Southwell beer." ”

"Alright then, let's have a 'half and a half'." Varina accepted the bartender's kindness.

"Four-and-a-halfpence."

Varina counted enough coins to put on the bar in exchange for a large wooden glass containing a pale yellow liquor. He tried to take a sip and found that it was slightly sweet in the mouth, without the bitterness of the expected beer, and it felt okay.

He raised his glass to the bartender: "Not bad, thanks for the advice." ”

"It's my job, if you like it."

Varina smiled and nodded, "If you can do me one more favor, so much the better, I'll find Kaspas Kanninen." ”

Hearing this, the smile on the bartender's face immediately subsided a lot. He looked at Varina with a scrutinizing gaze for a few seconds before pouting somewhere to the side, "Over there, billiard room two." ”

"Thanks again."

Varina picked up her glass and left the bar.
