Chapter 5: Transactions and Friendships
After knocking twice on the door as a reminder, Varina pushed open the door of billiard room 2 and walked inside.
Caspars Känlinen is playing a game of golf alone.
He is an old man over half a hundred years old, and there is a huge scar on his face, which stretches from the corner of his right eye to the right side of his mouth, and at first glance there will be a feeling of this person's ferocity. But when he walks around, his limping legs and feet will greatly reduce this bad feeling.
This is the first impression that comes from an external image.
In fact, Varina knows him on a deeper level. In the original book, in the face of Klein, who is disguised as an ordinary person, he has always been quite enthusiastic and honest except for a slightly higher fee.
Of course, such a performance may also have something to do with the face of the "old man", so Varina also intends to rub it off.
"Who are you? What do you want me to do? ”
Caspars noticed that a strange young man walked in, and his tone was slightly dark.
"I want a revolver, an underarm pouch, plus 30 rounds of matching ammunition."
Varina made a request first, and then added with a smile: "It was the 'old man' who introduced me." ”
Caspars looked Varina up and down twice with an undisguised gaze, then digressed: "Heh, you don't look like a detective, young man." ”
This could be a subtle piece of persuasion, or it could simply be an allusion to his immature appearance.
Varina didn't think much about it, and quickly replied: "That's right, you see people very accurately. ”
"So how much do I have to pay?"
"Three pounds."
Caspars explained after the offer: "It's more expensive than a regular weapons store, but I don't check proof of possession here." ”
"It's a reasonable price, I can accept it."
Varina said as he pulled out three one-pound bills from his right trouser pocket and handed them to the other party.
He went out in the morning with all the savings he had saved up over the course of a year, almost £20, three of which were five pound bills in his left trouser pocket. Because of this, his left hand was in his trouser pocket almost all day.
Such an act would undoubtedly affect his appearance, but the cost would be tiny compared to the risk of losing most of his savings.
"Hurry up, wait here for me for 5 minutes."
After inspecting the banknotes, Caspars limped out, and in a few moments he brought a brown paper package.
Varina unwrapped the package, and without looking closely, he pinned the silver-white pistol to the belt of his trousers at the back of his waist - he didn't know how to use a gun, and he couldn't see it in vain, and the pouch under his armpit also needed to be worn under his coat, which obviously couldn't come in handy right away.
As for the box of bullets and gun bags, they were tucked into separate pockets on either side of the coat.
This time, he made a deal more to establish an initial friendship with Caspers. Of course, the gun he bought will not be useless, after all, others don't know that he doesn't know how to use a gun.
With this deal as a foreshadowing, Varina spoke up again and said the true purpose of his trip:
"I heard that you know some very powerful guys, very mysterious and unreasonable, can you introduce them to me?"
Caspars had already gone to get the club on the table, and when he heard such a request, he jerked back and looked at Varina again with a cold gaze.
This stare lasted for several minutes, during which Caspars did not say a word, creating a powerful aura of oppression, trying to make it difficult for the young man on the other side to retreat.
But Varina held on, not showing a timid look.
"What are you looking for them?" Seeing that his trick had not worked, Caspars gave in, "I advise you, if you don't have the necessary reason, it's better not to touch them." ”
"It's about life."
Varina said firmly: "If it weren't for the help of that kind of person, I shouldn't have lived long." ”
Kaspars didn't ask any more, dropping out the phrase "Wait here" before staggering out of the billiard room again. Behind him, Varina let out a long sigh of relief.
Nice, everything went well.
Varina's series of actions are actually gambling in nature. When he entered the bar, he worried about whether Caspars existed; When he saw someone, he was worried about whether the other party recognized the "old man"; After striking the arms deal, he worries that the duo of Marić and Miss Sharon is not there.
Now, it seems, his earlier concerns were unfounded.
More than ten minutes later, Caspars returned to find Varina sitting on a somewhat dirty couch, sipping from her glass.
"Come with me, and he'll see you."
The two of them passed through the side of the ring, went to a chess room near the kitchen of the bar, knocked on the door, and were allowed to enter.
Varina saw the scene as described in the original book, with a pale Marić and a dozen equally pale living corpses playing poker inside.
Kaspas closed the door and left, while Marić, who looked to be about thirty years old, strode to the front of Varina. He stared at Varina with a subtle malice and asked directly:
"What kind of help do you want?"
Varina did not answer directly, but chose to explain it with actions.
He took two steps to his side, into the shadow of a light, and crouched down. It was such a simple action, but his sense of existence was greatly reduced, and he almost disappeared into the shadows.
Of course, this is the effect on ordinary people, not counting extraordinary people like Marić.
"I see," Marić nodded slightly after watching the performance, "Tell me, how much do you know?" ”
Varina resumed her stance and said:
"I've learned through some sources that a situation like mine seems to be called a 'half-extraordinary', and if you can't become a real 'extraordinary', you won't live long before you die violently."
"And to become truly extraordinary, I need to find a bottle of potion."
"That's pretty much it."
Marić casually picked up the wine glass next to a living corpse and took a sip, nodded and said:
"The information you know is generally correct, but the potion is not found, but after finding the formula and materials, you can configure it yourself, and use it now."
"Also, there are levels of potions, starting from sequence 9, 9, 8, 7, and 6 level up, and ordinary people can only drink the potions of sequence 9. If you drink indiscriminately, death may be the best outcome. ”
"There are many types of potions in Sequence 9, but when you choose one of them, all potions will be more terrifying to you than the piercing poison except for the subsequent potions it corresponds to."
After a very brief introduction to the Potions system, Marić's expression became serious, and he stared at Varina again, admonishing:
"Your situation is even more special!"
"You don't have a choice, you can only solve the hidden danger in your body by drinking the Sequence 9 potion that matches the traits you just showed."
"Remember, the potion recipe you'll need is 'Assassin', and in general, it's worth about £200."
At this point, Marić stopped talking.
Seeing this, Varina took off the cap on her head, then bent down and saluted, and asked in an expectant tone:
"So, sir, do you have the recipe for the potion I need?"
