Chapter 3 The beginning of the journey was not pleasant
Dumbledore eventually took Cal with him.
When Polo saw the real magic, he readily agreed to Dumbledore's request and accepted the offer letter, just like the other Muggle parents he was performing.
After this, Dumbledore said that he would take Carl to a place called "Diagon Alley" to prepare some things for school.
"It's a bit late now, and most of the students are already waiting for the start of the school year, and we started school on September 1st."
He also invited Polo to go with him to the wizarding world, but Polo politely declined and entrusted Carl entirely to Dumbledore.
After asking Dumbledore about the wizarding world's education policies, Polo handed Dumbledore a sum of pounds sterling in an envelope to pay for the things that needed to be purchased: school uniforms, textbooks, wands, cauldrons, etc.
In hindsight, the start of the trip was not pleasant.
Carl thought Dumbledore would use some kind of magic, but he was disappointed: Dumbledore was so excited that he took him to the subway station and experienced all the things in the subway himself: buying tickets, waiting for the subway, and buying a tourist map of London.
Judging from the performance that was not very skillful but did not make a big mistake, Dumbledore was not the first time to take the subway, but he should not have done it much.
The direct consequence of this and Dumbledore's attire was that the two of them entered the city as if they were two hillbillies, enduring countless "ridicules" that they pretended to ignore along the way.
So while the subway rumbles, Carl closes his eyes and pretends to be sleeping, even though he knows it's a rare opportunity.
Communicate with the great wizard and show his maturity appropriately so that the headmaster remembers him. Carl's previous office experience taught him that if he did, he would have had a good start.
But the eyes of pedestrians on the road still made Carl decide to give up the above start.
The headmaster beside him, who has been talking about the wizarding world, please be quiet. In the rumbling subway, Carl, who was squinting and pretending to sleep, thought helplessly.
"This is the Leaky Cauldron."
Dumbledore and Karl stood across from the Leaky Cauldron, like a grandfather and grandson out shopping.
A bustling crowd walked past the two of them, and every now and then someone looked back at Dumbledore.
Compared to normal Karl, Dumbledore did dress quite strangely: he wore a dark purple robe that dragged to the floor, and a pair of high-heeled boots with buttons.
Coupled with half-moon-shaped eyes and a twisted nose, which are quite rare nowadays, it's hard not to think that he is a crazy old man.
Located between a large bookstore and a record store, the Leaky Cauldron Bar is filthy and cramped.
Karl was a little disappointed in his heart, as a façade to the wizarding world, the Leaky Cauldron Bar was too old compared to the modern market opposite, and there was no magic in it.
But unlike Dumbledore, none of the pedestrians on this bustling street paid their attention to this "old and shabby".
"There's a special kind of magic here, which keeps Muggles from discovering them." Dumbledore was the first to explain. Along the way, he told Carl a lot about the wizarding world, and explained the wizards' secrecy - the reason why Muggles would not discover the existence of magic.
Walking into the bar, Carl's first impression was that the light had dimmed.
There were no modern lights, and Carl didn't see any lighting magic, but there was a small window at the top that let the sunlight in, but in Carl's opinion, the candles lit in the corners were more useful.
As one of Dumbledore's world-famous pubs for wizards, the hall was small and the floor was only clean, but Carl didn't feel much more about that - many parts of East London weren't much better, even dirtier and messier.
It was morning, and there weren't many tables in the bar, except for a few old ladies sitting in the corner drinking small glasses of sherry, and a big smoker sitting at the bar.
He wears a funny big hat on his head, which looks like a lion has bitten his head, and when he sees Carl, the lion actually loosens his mouth slightly and raises his head, as if to greet Carl.
The big smoker is chatting with the bar owner behind the bar, a typical middle-aged British man who has been ravaged by the stress of life - his hair is almost gone, and he looks like a shriveled walnut.
Seeing the movement of the hat on the head of the big smoker on the opposite side, his eyes fell on the two people who had just entered the door.
"Oh my God!" With an exclamation from the bar owner, the hotel immediately fell silent. Everyone here stood up, their eyes moving with Dumbledore at the front.
They paid their respects to the greatest wizard in the wizarding world.
The barkeeper hurriedly ran out from behind the bar, rubbed his hands together and said excitedly, "Welcome, welcome, I mean, warm welcome, Professor Dumbledore." ”
Dumbledore nodded slightly, "Tom, it's been a long time. ”
"Yes, I haven't seen you since the mystery man appeared." Tom welcomed the two of them to the bar and mentioned the mystery man, his face was a little unnatural, "You know, people were scared at the time, there was a bigger responsibility here, and I couldn't just leave." ”
Immediately, he skipped the matter himself, and pointed to the blackboard next to him, on which was written in chalk for today's lunch: "What do you want to eat?" I recommend marinated salted fish. ”
"No, thank you." Dumbledore refused, "I'm going to take a young wizard to Diagon Alley." ”
Karl noticed that as Dumbledore explained what he meant, everyone in the bar, including the excited-looking barkeeper in front of him, breathed a sigh of relief, and the original solemn and tense atmosphere in the air disappeared.
Tom didn't hold on again, but led the two of them across the bar to the small walled patio. There was nothing but a garbage can and some overgrown weeds.
Tom glanced at Karl's face, then bowed slightly to Dumbledore, and left without saying a word.
Before Carl could think about why the barkeeper was looking at him, Dumbledore had already walked over to the dustbin, and he took out a strange-looking wand about fifteen inches long and said to Carl, "Count up to three—and two to the side—"
He tapped his wand against the wall three times. The brick he had clicked on shook and moved to the side, and soon a small hole grew larger and larger, and in a short time there appeared in front of them a wide archway large enough for the two of them to pass side by side, and at the end of the archway was a winding, endless street of cobblestones of various sizes.
"Welcome to Diagon Alley." Dumbledore said, "It's a ritual that every young wizard will go through. It is said to contain a mysterious blessing. ”
"There are always legends in the wizarding world, and even I can't be sure if it's true or not, either way, welcome to the wizarding world."
