Chapter 4: His Kingdom
Today was a rare sunny day, with warm sunshine shining on the streets of Diagon Alley.
As in the Leaky Cauldron, Dumbledore seemed to have a special kind of magic in his body, and at first only the nearest few people stopped and stared at the two of them.
Soon, I don't know if there is a special communication magic between wizards, and as the two walked through the street, the people on the street naturally stopped and focused their eyes on the two.
Carl noticed that the shops on both sides of the street didn't seem to want to do business at this moment: customers and store clerks, and perhaps the proprietors were crowded in front of the store, and when Carl's eyes swept over them, they all smiled and nodded and waved at him.
Carl felt as if he was back on the London Underground, only this time the crowd looked at him not with mockery, but with respect.
As they gradually moved deeper into Diagon Alley, a number of people squeezed through the crowd and walked up to Dumbledore, greeting him with excitement and excitement. Most of them didn't say a word, they basically came in a hurry and left in a hurry.
However, there are some people who are exceptions: these people are not regular, some are richly dressed, some are shabby, or they are strangely shaped.
They would often say a few more pleasantries, and some would ask Dumbledore if he wanted help or not.
In Carr's observations, Dumbledore simply nodded his head and said a word or two at most, while he simply refused the latter's request with a polite and affectionate smile.
When they reached a tall snow-white building, Dumbledore paused and said, "This is Gringotts, the bank of the elves, and the only bank in the wizarding world. β
Karl looked up at the apparently standout building, and nodded at the polished bronze gate.
There is no doubt that this place is rich and powerful, and it is a place that he cannot climb.
There were already two figures in gilded uniforms standing in front of the bronze door at this time, and when they saw Dumbledore stop, the leader immediately strode over, with a warm smile on his face, and said loudly:
"Oh, oh, oh, oh my God! This morning I passed by Mrs. Karshi, and she said that I would meet a noble person today. I still think that she is an old liar who cheats money by calculating disasters, how can she know what a noble person is? β
I spat at her and told her to be honest in the future. Ooh! Unexpectedly, she is really capable! I should have given her a Galleon to show her heart. β
"That's a rarity." Dumbledore said kindly, "If Kalhi can make a Galleon from the elves, she will definitely make a fortune in the future." β
The elf coughed, "That's the prejudice of the outsiders against us, great Dumbledore, I hope you can see it." β
"Good morning, Professor Dumbledore, is there anything we need to do?" The elf retracted his smile, walked up to Dumbledore, put his hand on his chest, and saluted seriously, and the elf behind him was no exception.
"Good morning, Gold." Dumbledore spoke politely, "There's a young wizard here who is about to enter the school, and he needs to exchange some gold Galleons." β
As he spoke, he pulled out a piece of parchment out of nowhere, and Karl noticed that at the top of the parchment was a shield with a large H in the middle.
The goblin named Gold Coin stretched out his hands, carefully took the parchment, and after just a few glances, he looked up at Karl on the side: "Is this the little wizard?" Carl Gallis Turinus? β
"Yes."
Carl could feel the enthusiasm of the goblin in front of him, but his expression was obviously relaxed: "Of course! We have an agreement with the Ministry of Magic - any Muggle student can get a certain amount of money. Please, please come in and wait, welcome to Gringotts! β
The two elves ushered them into a tall marble hall.
Here, Cal felt a different atmosphere than the rest of Diagon Alley: the wizards here were more reserved, just standing up and waving at Dumbledore from afar, nodding their heads - and so was Dumbledore.
The goblins are more relaxed:
A hundred or so elves sat on high stools behind a long row of counters, and did not look up at Dumbledore and Carl as they entered, but continued to do their work: some weighed coins with copper scales, some examined gems with eyepieces, scribbled them into large ledgers, and many elves carried their guests through countless doors.
The goblin didn't take them anywhere else, but led them to a counter that had already been empty, Dumbledore took out the envelope given by Polo, and in less than two minutes, the corresponding 150 gold gallons were put into a small bag and handed to Carl.
"Do you need to open a vault?" The gold coin looked at Carl with a smile and said, "So many Galleons are not really suitable for carrying around. We at Gringotts have the safest vault in the world, the most complete service, the strongest protection, and you don't have to worry about the safety of the Golden Galleons anymore by paying a small fee. β
"I don't think Carl needs that just yet, he still needs to buy a lot of things."
Carl was initially a little impressed, but after Dumbledore refused on his behalf, he chose to listen to Dumbledore's experience, and Dumbledore had to be more experienced than him in this area.
"Actually, he doesn't need so much, he just needs to buy some second-hand books and use some second-hand materialsΒ·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·"
The gold coin deeply regretted this, but he didn't dwell on it, just muttered, and politely sent the two out of Gringotts.
"Professor Dumbledore, long time no see!"
At the door of Gringotts, there were already several people standing, led by the old wizard wearing a pinstriped suit, a bright red tie, and a dark green courtesy, as an old man, his smiling appearance made Carl can't help but feel close.
"Connery, I didn't expect you to come too." There was a sense of helplessness in Dumbledore's words.
Connelly. Fudge graciously walked up to Dumbledore, "It's time for the Ministry of Magic to rest, and I heard you're coming to Diagon Alley, so come and say hello." Of course, we're actually busy. β
"Recently, we've been busy promulgating a law on werewolves, and I mentioned it to you last time."
His tone was natural, with a hint of pride, and to Carl's ears, it was not so much a greeting as a gesture.
"That's a good thing." Dumbledore nodded, his tone softening. "The werewolf community has always deserved our attention, and if it weren't for the injustices encountered, there wouldn't have been so many werewolves who had taken refuge with Voldemort before."
Carl's expression moved, this was the first time he had heard the name Voldemort, and in his limited knowledge of Harry Potter, Voldemort was undoubtedly the biggest villain.
However, it is clear that no one here wants to hear the name.
After hearing this name, the goblin named Jinyuan hurriedly took the lead to greet the deputy minister of magic and left in a hurry. And Deputy Minister Fudge also showed a look of displeasure for a moment, but the next second he laughed and said, "Professor Dumbledore, don't mention that name again, everything is in the past, everything is getting better, isn't it?" β
Dumbledore blinked, smiled, and nodded.
Fudge turned his head and changed the subject, "This is the little wizard?" β
"Carl. Good morning, Mr. Fudge, Turinus. β
Karl bowed slightly, although he was not sure of the position of the person in front of him in the Ministry of Magic, but from being able to participate in the formulation of laws and talking to Dumbledore so far, Carl could be sure that this person was either in a high position of authority or had enough influence.
In short, this must be a real big shot, otherwise everyone behind him wouldn't be standing there smirking and listening to the two of them.
"What a polite child. If you have time, you can visit the Ministry of Magic. Many people have misconceptions about us, in fact, we have already opened the door in the hope of bringing in some fresh air. Fudge touched Karl's head and said kindly.
Carl didn't understand Fudge's words, so he had to take out the experience he had learned in his previous life and smile at the old man.
"I figure, it's getting late, I'm going to take Carl to the wand shop."
Fortunately, Dumbledore solved Carl's troubles. Fudge didn't hold back, as if he really just came to see: "Of course, choosing a wand is a big deal, and I couldn't sleep all night because I was so excited about it." Karl, I wish you a good wand in advance. β
"Thank you."
Dumbledore led Karl through the crowd led by Fudge, but quickly stopped and asked the person in front of him, "Arthur, you have two children who are also going to school this year?" β
"Yes, Professor Dumbledore." The person who spoke had thinning hair, but was not completely bald. He was tall and thin, wearing glasses, and had a bitter face, "To put it mildly, those are not two worry-free guys, they annoy Mo Li." β
"Bill has 12 O.W.Ls certificates, which is something that hasn't been achieved by a student in many years, and he did well as president of the student council this year. Charlie also captained Gryffindor last year and became a prefect this year. And Percy, who had excellent grades and was very fond of the professors. β
Dumbledore said this, pulling Karl gently in front of him, "I'm sure their brother will be a good boy of good character, too. β
"Perhaps, they are very smart." Arthur. Weasley was said to be proud, but still a little unconfident, and muttered.
"Is September 1st free?" Dumbledore took Carl's hand, "Carl is new to the wizarding world, I want you to pick him up and take him to King's Cross Station." β
Arthur. Weasley stared at Karl for a moment, then smiled and nodded, "It's a small matter, Professor Dumbledore." β
He crouched down and held out his hand, "Arthur Weasley, it's a pleasure to meet you, little Carl, and I hope you can get along well with my two children." β
"Carl. Turinus, it's also a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Weasley. β
Weasley, a familiar surname.
Carl thought as he held out his hand.
