Chapter 21: Charms Lesson

On Wednesday, they had another herbal class, which was their third session of the week.

Then came the last Defense Against the Dark Arts of the week, where they continued to practice two types of fireworks.

As in the previous classes, Professor Caro showed extraordinary patience, which was completely different from his cold face, and he did not hesitate to praise those students who were gifted and performed well.

Towards the end of the lesson, he once again expressed his opinion:

"Ladies and gentlemen. You've officially started your lessons. I hope you can work harder and be more proactive. Don't be satisfied with what you have learned in class, sooner or later, you will find that this is not enough. ”

"But by that day, it's already too late!"

In the afternoon, they had their first Charms class, which was taught by a diminutive wizard, Professor Flitwick, the head of Ravenclaw.

During class, Flitwick stood on a stack of books so that his head popped out of the lectern. When Carl was named, Flitwick smiled at him and praised him for his previous performance against Peeves.

But he didn't say much, and soon began to get to work.

All the little wizards looked at the professor with fiery eyes.

It's been four days since they arrived at Hogwarts, and they first-year students haven't learned a spell yet.

Defence Against the Dark Arts class has fun with fireworks, but it's hard to give everyone a magical feeling after all.

Especially after seeing Carl's performance, their desire for magic became even stronger.

To their disappointment, Professor Flitwick didn't teach any spells, not even a wand, but instead gave an entire lesson on the safety of spell casting.

After that, in the second lesson, they were asked to practice a variety of common gestures.

No wands, not even fireworks!

At night, they braved the bitter cold wind, climbed the tallest astronomical tower, and took astronomy lessons once a week. Only then did Carl realize what the brass telescope he had bought was for.

To be honest, this disappointed Karl a bit, he thought that wizards would use something more magical, such as crystal balls, magic or something, if they really wanted to observe astronomy.

But the reality is that two well-polished glasses form a brass telescope that allows them to clearly see the uneven surface of the moon, to see the shining Mars, Venus, and so on.

On Thursday, Flitwick was still the same, with a safety science session and a gesture practice.

This made the students more and more dissatisfied. They had a thirst for magic, they had imagined what a magic class at Hogwarts would be like, and they were desperate to learn a real spell or two.

But now in a course that actually teaches magic, what safety rules do they have to listen to?!

If magic is so dangerous, why is Carl okay?!

When Angelina stood up on behalf of the group to inquire about it, Professor Flitwick stopped and explained, "Things are not as you think. ”

"Karl is in danger too, but he's a genius." He paused, "A true genius, full of inspiration. ”

"For such a genius, many dangers may be crossed in a vague way. But magic isn't as simple as everyone thinks. ”

"You've learned Transfiguration, how many of you were able to do the first job: actually turn a match into a needle." Professor Flitwick looked at his student.

Only Carl and Cedric raised their hands, and many of the students looked ashamed—they weren't not trying, after all, Professor McGonagall was going to check their results the following Monday.

Transfiguration, however, was a difficult subject, and the students who looked ashamed often practiced hard, but their matches were only slightly altered.

Fred and George had hopeful, but they didn't practice since Monday, and they spent all their free time playing and making friends.

"That's the problem, spells are more dangerous than Transfiguration, and it's not just a good wizard who lost his life because of a wrong spell, but also among my students."

"So you need to be cautious, and you need to be cautious." Flitwick looked at Karl. This was what worried him the most out of all the students.

Carl was "lucky", thanks to his "talent", he never failed to cast spells along the way.

But no one is lucky forever. A cautious and reverent attitude is the way to go.

"I don't want you to be next."

Professor Flitwick was very sincere, and that was his heartfelt hope.

He says that every year.

He gets similar bad news every year.

But when a new student arrives at Hogwarts, he still hopes that his advice will save the members of the "bad news" in the future.

Even if it's just one.

No one knew how many people listened to Professor Flitwick's words, but after that, the students were quieter, only a little commotion when they got their first Charms assignment after class.

Charms class is the last lesson of the day. Karl checked the class schedule and found that there was one last Potions class tomorrow morning, and after that they were completely out of class.

The first-year course is so relaxed, the professors are heavy and come and go, and they can only take care of the progress of the whole class.

So Professor Carlo is not right at all, what you learn in the classroom is completely insufficient.

There are two ways for students to succeed: by self-study and by asking their professors.

In such an environment, the difference between students after a year or two will be very large.

Those with potential will quickly stand out from the crowd. Students who don't have potential can also spend a few years happily because the overall environment is not so rolly, hello everyone.

Until the O.W.L.S. year arrives, the brutal "graduation" exams will give these people a hard blow, and they will spend a year making up for the gap they have pulled down in the first four years.

After class ended at around 3 p.m., Carl invited Cedric to the library with the twins and Lee Jordan to solve a few homework assignments.

Fred and George decisively refused, and all the assignments were due the next week, which was still early.

"We have to pick a bad weather, when we don't want to go out, just in time to do our homework." Fred grinned, and his brother patted him on the shoulder and laughed, clearly approving.

Lee Jordan was going to say yes, but Fred and George succeeded in seducing him, and he decided to venture out with the twins in the castle and continue his search for secret passages.

These days, led by Carl, they all go on this great adventure after school.

Thanks to the help of Heatings, Karl was able to achieve great results in this regard.

Behind a tapestry, they found a secret passage leading from the second floor to the fifth floor, which was missing a step in the middle and would have fallen into it if they were not careful. Lee Jordan, after being framed by the twins, insisted that it was a trap deliberately left by the designers.

There was also a route on the fifth floor, which turned out to be a shortcut to the Gryffindor common room.

As they became more familiar with the school, Fred and George had the bold idea of finding out if there was a secret passage outside of the school.

According to them and Lee Jordan, there is the only wizarding village in all of Britain just outside of Hogwarts, and there are many famous goodies there.
