Chapter 35: November in the blink of an eye
The Sorting Hat looked at Carl, seemingly unwilling to dwell on the adventure.
"What are you looking for from me? I've heard a lot about you here? ”
Carl scratched his ears embarrassedly, and said helplessly: "Actually, many of them are accidents and coincidences, and I have studied well." ”
"Whether it's Merlin, or Dumbledore, Tom, etc., you wizards, there will always be a lot of accidents and coincidences around you." The Sorting Hat sighed.
"Tom? Who's that? ”
Carl thought the name familiar, but it was so bad that he couldn't remember who it was.
"Well, that's a big badass, but a very powerful badass." The Sorting Hat didn't want to talk about it, "But he was good at school, and everyone liked him a lot. ”
"Okay." Carl wasn't interested in Tom, "Not long ago, I finished reading the biography of the Big Four, and I had a question, and I wanted to ask Professor Binns, but I really didn't want to talk to him—I was afraid that as soon as he spoke, I would fall asleep!" ”
"Binns was a boring man, and that was how he was when he was alive." The Sorting Hat immediately laughed, "Helga once went to listen to one of his lessons himself after receiving the student's reaction. ”
Carl's face was strange, he had already guessed the ending.
"That's right, she's asleep too! No one questioned Binns again, and it was assumed that he had Sandman blood, and it was unanimously decided to wait for him to retire and find a reliable professor of the history of magic, who was already very old at the time. ”
What happened later, Carl naturally knew.
Binns died in his post and went on to shine and wreak havoc on generations of Hogwarts students.
Karl didn't dwell on the issue, he was not interested in Binns: "But it's okay to find you, it's a pity that you've been here, you're much more interesting than Professor Binns." ”
"Of course!" The Sorting Hat cocks up. "I'm Salazar's own hat of humor, a sense of humor that he craves so much. In the course of the adventure, it was always me who was trying to relieve Godric. ”
Carl narrowed his eyes, and he felt that there was something very interesting in the Sorting Hat's words.
But that's not the time to ask.
"I've seen in the biographies of the Big Four that the Big Four, with the exception of Slytherin, who died at some point in the Middle Ages, is normal for the other founders in comparison." Karl said slowly, "I've heard that great wizards always face death, and a great wizard like Slytherin has a long lifespan, obviously not just luck, but what about the other three? ”
Actually, this is the conclusion of his reading in the library during this time. He flipped through a lot of history books and discovered a sad truth: wizards may have long lifespans, but no wizard can truly escape death.
The magic didn't help them escape death, let alone resurrect people.
That kind of thing really seems to exist only in stories and rumors.
"They seem to have a normal lifespan, huh? What happened to you? ”
As Carl spoke his question, the Sorting Hat's mouth opened wider and wider.
"How could you have such a stupid idea, who told you that great wizards must have escaped death by prolonging their lives?"
"What do you mean?"
"No, I don't know." The Sorting Hat suddenly closed his mouth, "I'm just a hat, I don't know anything. Who's going to tell a hat what those deep magic are? ”
The Sorting Hat closed his eyes, and soon there was a snoring sound.
The portraits of the headmaster's office followed, closing his eyes and taking a nap.
Karl stood for a moment, realizing what the Sorting Hat obviously knew, though it was clear he wasn't going to say it. He made a note of this, left the Headmaster's office, and returned to his dormitory after completing Dumbledore's instructions.
The twins were half-lying on the bed at this time, looking half-dead. They would often be called out to by Snape, and when they returned, they would be in the bathroom for half the night.
Every time they finally got out of bed, they would scold Snape. They seriously doubted whether Snape had done it on purpose, otherwise why did the different drugs end up with the same side effects? And it happens to be four hours before it disappears?
Snape's confinement had paid off, and Fred and George now had no energy to be mischievous on weekends.
Carl didn't know if the world was too peaceful, but in the following month, Hogwarts seemed to usher in a peaceful and prosperous era, and nothing big happened anymore - even the confinement and point deductions became rare.
Every time Professor McGonagall walked down the hall, she paused in front of Gryffindor's growing number of gems and smiled with satisfaction.
Although Gryffindor is still the bottom of the rankings, at least the score is not as ugly as zero.
Professor McGonagall is in a good mood for more than just the scores.
Charlie's Quidditch team went on a win-free run in November, taking out Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff cleanly.
As December approaches, the weather gets colder and colder, and the mountains around the school are already covered with a thin layer of snow, giving the blue sky a silver edge.
In their free time, people prefer to hide in castles, where there are warm fireplaces and joyous crowds.
But Carl didn't have such a good life, and he had to pay off his previous mistakes.
Luckily, Hagrid is a nice guy, a bit clumsy in his brain, but very enthusiastic.
Here, Karl was not in any danger - neither the teacher nor Hagrid himself would let him in.
He just needs to help Hagrid with some of the work, taking care of the chickens and ducks, chopping some pieces of meat, etc.
Fred and George, on the other hand, often wandered around the edge of the Forbidden Forest under the guise of seeing Karl, and for this reason, they somehow tried to curry favor with Hagrid's dog, named Toothtooth.
However, Hagrid was surprisingly reliable in this regard, always being the first to spot the two mischievous ghosts and carrying them to his residence.
"Actually, there is nothing to see, just some trees, lawns, and some rabbits or something." Hagrid didn't have a good look at the curious twins, but he had a good impression of Carl, and after Carl expressed his curiosity, he said that he could take Carl around the edge in the spring.
Fred and George are not allowed to be brought, though.
Carl hesitated for a second between hesitating brother and curiosity, and finally chose curiosity.
In December, people talk more about the upcoming Christmas holidays.
Fred and George had grown accustomed to Snape's tightness, and to put it nicely, their vitality had returned, and to put it mildly, the little devil in them had lost it.
But even they didn't do much more in December.
As little ghosts who have been away from home for four months for the first time, they are indeed a little homesick.
