Chapter 76: Dumbledore's Purpose
His tone was so casual, as if he was still making small talk to Carl.
Karl's mind immediately stirred with alarm.
But he didn't dare to think too much, and asked with his intuition, "So, sir, what do you think?" β
"What do I think?" Dumbledore said, "A very sly reply." Carl, I'd love to share my thoughts, but I think it's a good idea to start with you. β
He winked at Karl, "As an old man, I think you'll forgive the old man for always having to be a little sluggish, especially at night. β
Time seems to stand still for a moment.
"Yes, sir." "It's a great idea, and I'm willing to join." β
Dumbledore didn't react more to Carl's answer, but calmly continued, "It's that simple?" β
"It's as simple as that, sir." Karl pondered Dumbledore's thoughts, and his mouth responded. "I'm willing to join this project and I'm sure I can learn a lot."
Dumbledore nodded, "I'm not skeptical about that. β
He paused for a long time, as if thinking about how to talk to Carl.
"I discussed with Professor Carlo for a long time, and I recommended a few students to him that I thought were very good, but he insisted on choosing you." Dumbledore asked, "Do you know why?" β
Karl shook his head.
He could guess why, but he really "didn't know."
Dumbledore leaned back, still smiling.
"It's because you're studying dark arts with Professor Caro, isn't it?"
Dumbledore's fluttering words fell on Carl's ears like a thunderbolt, causing Cal's still bright head to start buzzing.
He could clearly feel his heart beating violently, and the hot blood rushed to his eyes, and his face was red.
Carl looked at the unpredictable headmaster in front of him in a daze, and he didn't know how to answer.
Such a question far exceeded his expectations, which he never expectedΒ·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·
"Didn't expect me to break it?"
He seemed to be very proud of Carl's surprise and said happily, "Son, you've grown a lot this year, but remember, honesty is sometimes more powerful than skill." β
Carl gripped the wand hidden in his sleeve, which always gave him the courage to calm down when he panicked.
"Yes, I do study the dark arts with Professor Caro." Carl replied honestly. "He told me you'd agree, sir."
He was going to follow Dumbledore's words first, he needed a little more time to adjust himself.
"That's right, Carl, that's right. I knew about it last year, and after thinking about it for a long time, I finally acquiesced to Professor Carlo's request. Dumbledore motioned for Karl to continue.
Karl didn't intend to say anything more, but asked, "So what?" Headmaster, what about this year? β
The air was dull again for a moment.
"It's still the same this year." Dumbledore said, "The dark arts are dangerous, kids, more dangerous than you think, and many geniuses don't take it seriously, but they all pay a great price in the end." β
He touched the nose that had been crooked for a long time: "For example, this nose that has no cure." An experienced teacher can help you avoid many dangers. β
"That's my final acquiescence β when I realized that your craving for it was unquenchable, and you snuck into the forbidden book section during the Christmas holidays, right?"
Once again, Dumbledore came up with news that surprised Carl.
"I understand you, Karl, there's a treasure there. For every good Hogwarts student, the Forbidden Books section is the greatest treasure. So we always secretly pay attention to such students to prevent them from falling into dangerous situations. β
"You see, dark magic is a very dangerous thing."
"I don't think it's dangerous." Carl retorted, "That's just a prejudice on people's part. The reality is that magic is dangerous, and even the slightest levitation spell can lead to accidents. Black magic is a form of magic, only its research is more chaotic and beyond people's common sense. β
Dumbledore lowered his gaze, "It seems that you have learned well, but it is clear that we have some disagreements in this area. In the future, when you delve deeper into the dark arts, I hope we can have the opportunity to sit together over tea and exchange ideas. β
Dumbledore always seemed to be so calm, he was not angry at all because Carl had different ideas from himself, and he was still smiling.
Carl felt as if his temptation had hit cotton, which made him more alert, and his brain went at a faster pace.
He didn't understand why Dumbledore had called him to the office, and at first he thought that he was learning the dark arts, but Dumbledore's words denied it.
But if he was telling a lie, Karl didn't understand why Dumbledore was lying to himself.
Karl quickly went through all the previous conversations in his mind, and Dumbledore still revealed too little information, so he asked with a feigned curiosity, "So, sir, you haven't told me what you think?" β
He wished Dumbledore could say more.
Dumbledore gave him a strange look and said confusedly, "Didn't I say it?" β
"I didn't say it." Carl affirmed.
"I agree with you joining this learning exchange." Dumbledore slowly recalled, "That's how I see it. β
"So." Carl snorted, "Sir, can I leave?" β
It was the means he could finally think of.
Dumbledore didn't speak, just looked at Carl with a smile.
Carl and he stared at each other for a while, and finally he sighed and said helplessly: "Sir, I don't want to think about it anymore, you can tell me, what did you let me come to the office for?" β
"Why didn't you accept Professor Carlo's invitation this summer?" Dumbledore asked, "I've heard that it's rare for Renos to be so high-profile in years. β
"I'm too young to go, I want to play with Fred and George."
Carl subconsciously gave his reasons, and suddenly he closed his mouth, thought for a while, and then raised his head and looked at the headmaster in front of him in shock.
"Looks like you've guessed some." Dumbledore was surprised, "You've always been smarter than I thought, is that a natural maturity?" β
If it weren't for Heatings' previous teachings, Carl himself would definitely not have figured out the twists and turns.
"I just want to learn the dark arts." Carl promised.
"To be honest, I really don't understand why you guys care about this, uh, I'm sorry, I don't know how to describe it, thing?"
"Magic is so fascinating, and there's so much to learn and study in it, but you don't want to spend time on it. And, I feel like magic can solve any problem entirely. β
This was Karl's true thoughts, and he couldn't understand the point of the fight between these people.
Pureblood? Muggles? Power? Wealth?
Do these really make sense in the face of the miracle of magic itself?
Whether it is having absolute power to silence opponents forever, or changing the views of opponents through manipulative magic, or using magic to erase the boundaries between pure-bloods and Muggles, creating more wealth and making wealth and power meaningless.
Magic can do everything, and all they have to do is work hard to study magic, not fight over it in a pot.
Dumbledore put away his smile, he was silent for a long time, and finally he also sighed as Carl had learned from before.
"You're too young to know a lot of things. Maybe magic can really solve any problem one day, but that's not today, and there are a lot of problems that can't wait for that day. β
"Reinos will be looking for you tomorrow, and hopefully if one day he invites you again, you'll remember tonight's conversation."
