Chapter 77: Karl's Metamorphosis
Dumbledore's words undoubtedly implied that Karl could leave.
After hesitating for a while, Karl pretended not to understand Dumbledore's hint and took the opportunity to ask a question.
"Sir, you have said that honesty is more powerful than skill. But I have a question that I can't find the answer to, I want to ask if you can do it? β
Dumbledore didn't squeak.
So Carl continued, "I think you know that I enjoyed reading about past wizards, and learned a lot from it. β
"It's a good habit, Carl." Dumbledore said, "A good wizard always reaps valuable wealth from the experiences of others. β
Karl nodded in agreement: "Now there is such a wizard, when I look for his deeds, I find that his deeds are mysterious and have many false rumors, but his followers often have clear reports. β
Dumbledore seemed to realize something, and for the first time his gaze behind his half-moon eyes became very serious.
Karl had been observing Dumbledore, and before Dumbledore could speak, he preemptively said, "No, sir, my curiosity about him is out of wariness of him, not interest. β
"People don't want to talk about him, even though he's dead." "But there are many things that can only be feared if you understand them." β
Dumbledore looked at him for a moment, then said, "Karl, that wizard destroyed a lot of his past after he became famous, and many people think he came out of nowhere. β
"I'm sure you don't think so, do you?" Carl affirmed, "You must know his past. β
Dumbledore nodded slightly, and then said, "But he's dead, Cal, you don't have to fear him, you don't have to know him, you just have to look forward." β
Dumbledore was lying, but Karl wasn't going to expose his lies.
On the contrary, he said, "but his mind lives on those men, sir, and I insist that it is necessary and important to know his deeds." β
Dumbledore stroked his beard lightly and said, "Very good idea, so how are you going to get to know Voldemort?" As far as I know, no historical writings about him have been published so far. β
"I wanted to know from the very beginning, I wanted to know how he became Voldemort and gathered a group of Death Eaters." "I have a few guesses and I'd like to get your certification. β
Dumbledore didn't say a word, motioning for Carl to continue.
"Was Voldemort a Hogwarts student?"
It's an interesting idea, in fact, there is no information about what school the Dark Lord came from, but everyone seems to think that he was a Hogwarts student.
After all, this is England, and there are very few English wizards who don't go to school at Hogwarts.
"Of course." Dumbledore nodded.
"Slytherin?"
"There is no doubt about it."
It's also obvious that both the Death Eater's origins and the slogans he promotes prove that he is a good fit with Slytherin House.
"So, what about the name?"
This was where Karl wondered, he never saw the "celebrity" by his real name in Hogwarts materials, and was always referred to as "The Mystery Man", or "Lord Voldemort" as he called himself.
This caused some confusion in his efforts to win Professor Caro's further trust - if he did not reveal his knowledge of Voldemort, how could he change his opinion and agree with Professor Carlo for no apparent reason?
Dumbledore looked at the boy in front of him again, "Interesting question. Carl, few people pay attention to the real name of this wizard, and people's knowledge of him is always limited to the horrific deeds of his fame. β
"You're definitely not included here." Carl complimented.
"Actually, that includes me." Dumbledore said calmly.
"I don't know much more about his past than anyone else - he hides his past well, and most likely has cast a curse, and he's very well versed in this type of dark magic. There was once someone who wanted to know about his past, and then that person suffered a lot of bad luck and ended up dying tragically. β
Karl vaguely felt that Dumbledore had dodged his question, but he did seem to answer his own question again, and he frowned, "Are you warning me?" β
"You can think so."
"Even if he's dead."
"Even though he's dead, he's still the most dangerous one." Dumbledore was unceremonious, and he admonished:
"If you really want to implement your idea, then don't try to get involved with anything with Voldemort β past or present. Go study in peace and study your magic, kid. β
That was the last conversation Dumbledore and Carl had that night.
The next afternoon, it was Defence Against the Dark Arts class, and after class, Professor Carlo kept him.
"Dumbledore should have spoken to you last night." Professor Carlo said happily, "Then every Tuesday, Thursday night, it's about the same as last year." β
"Yes, sir." Carl pretended to hesitate and apologized, "I'm sorry, Professor Carlo, I Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β· during the summer vacation."
"No, nothing." Professor Carlo didn't care at all, and said, "It's me who didn't think it through, in fact, I should have invited some children." β
He seemed to remember something, and said, "What did Albus tell you last night?" β
"He just told me to be careful." Karl shook his head and said, "Don't go astray or anything. β
"It's a clichΓ©." Professor Carlo pouted, "I'm sure he never thought about these issues when he was studying the Dark Arts. β
After Professor Caro resumed his teaching class, Carl's life was completely stabilized.
Take classes, sort out the treasure house and sift through books, learn magic from Professor Caro and Professor Quirrell, and spend the rest of the time borrowing books from the library and playing.
In fact, the time to play was dwindling as Fred and the others got busier as they got busier β Quidditch matches had already begun, and their training was getting heavier.
Realizing this, Carl spends more time in the Treasure House.
There are quite a few books on dark arts - those full of malicious spells, poison spells, and curses.
Under the protection of the Hattings, Karl finally began to experiment with the practice of these dark spells.
The exercise went well overall.
These spells were generally more difficult than the ones that Carl had ever learned, and indeed more dangerous.
If it weren't for the fact that Hattings used his claws to scratch away the damage of those black spells a few times, there is a good chance that Carl would have left unexplained marks on himself.
The benefits of practicing these spells were clear, though, and in Professor Carlo's lessons, Carl was able to understand what he was saying more deeply, rather than sometimes overhearing them as he had done before.
For example, Professor Caro said that the most important thing in magic is emotion, and this is especially true of black magic.
Carl had only said that he knew this, but when he used all kinds of magic, he never realized how emotions could affect magic.
Could it be that if you are in a good mood, the levitation charm can make the object three inches taller than others?
But while practicing the Black Spell, Karl finally understood how emotions affect magic. Those malicious emotions can greatly increase the aggressiveness of the Dark Spell.
It was a strange feeling, as if the magic had gained some kind of fuel and would burn more violently.
It was also because of this experience that Carl was able to discern how emotions subtly changed the magic when he used those normal spells.
In fact, more than that, as he studied the dark arts further, Carl had a deeper understanding of all the knowledge he had learned, and he vaguely felt as if he saw a big outline.
Under this outline, alchemy (the making of magical objects), black magic, potions, shapeshifts, spells, herbs, and the magic that he himself "invented" seemed to be able to be pinched together, and the boundaries between them were disappearing.
Carl didn't know what the silhouette was, maybe it was the real magic, he was too far away from that silhouette now.
However, he still benefited a lot from this insight, which is reflected in the fact that he has become faster in learning, and he can do many things in class just by listening to them.
Neither Professor McGonagall, nor Professor Flitwick, nor Professor Carlo, nor Professor Quirrell discovered this.
They had discussed it in private, and finally had to admit that Carl was breaking away from the student category at a speed that most people could imagine.
Perhaps the talent for magic still needs time to develop and grow, and Carl still has a lot to learn in terms of theoretical knowledge, but he is forming his own opinion on magic, and he is interpreting magic with his own understanding.
This is the difference between a teacher and an apprentice.
Professor Caro was happiest at all, listening to Carl's thoughts on magic more than once, and then smiling and encouraging him to keep going.
"I don't think you're right about something, kid, but magic is what it is, and no one is necessarily right. So go on the bold, kid. β
