Chapter 10: The Left and Right Unsheathed Edges
When he returned to the "Wanderer", he still couldn't stop being full of depression. Knowing this, he still has to ask for his own hardships, and he has to bear this character problem himself.
He stretched out his slender index finger and gently pressed the "fully autopilot" button. The dexterous instruments began to bustle with their work, but the center of the computer flashed with colorful dots of light. Then, the voice of a mischievous, genderless child, reverberates in the sleek cabin of the "Wanderer".
"Didn't you die, did it make you very unhappy?"
He smiled and replied directly with brain waves: "Hermione, do you want me to die?" β
"It may not be bad to stand in your favor, but in my systemic self-interest, I don't want to lose you."
He felt strange comfort: "You're getting smarter. β
"How so?"
"It seems that my mood is changing, and there is nothing to hide in front of you. And you're getting better at reassuring me. β
Hermione's light danced more lively: "This is as it should be, Leora. I am an artificial intelligence life created according to all your needs, and naturally have enough sensitivity to detect your feelings and resolve your unhappiness. β
Leora shook her head: "The last part I injected into you was the 'spirituality' that even I couldn't grasp, so I couldn't control you. So if you want to rebel now, I'm helpless. β
"What do you mean by 'mutiny'?"
"Oh, I forgot you still lack some concept of primates. Mutiny, that is, if you don't want to listen to me, or if you want to have full power, and therefore do something hurtful to me. β
"I'm not going to do that, I like you."
Leora couldn't help but change the subject: "Hermione, how do you think the difference between living and non-living forms should be distinguished?" β
The computer quietly summarized for a moment before asking, "Do you mean physiology, or a more comprehensive concept?" β
"Everything."
"Your definition is too vague, and it hits the clarity of my information, so I can't answer."
"Hey, you're getting stricter! Well, I'll change the question to this: In terms of the broadest definition, use one of the most unique points of divergence to illustrate the similarities and differences between living and non-living organisms. β
"This time it's much better. My answer is that living beings need to rely on or rely on other living or non-living forms on a physical or other level to form a cycle or symbiosis in order to have the ability to exist. Since non-living beings have escaped the constraints of limited existence and circulation, they can exist on their own without the help of any external forces. To put it simply: non-living forms are not like living organisms, they have the concept of "life and death change". β
"So, am I still a living being?"
"I don't know if I'm a living being!"
Leora was unconsciously amused. The computer, which was in charge of the starship's voyage and all its affairs, became more and more like his companion who comforted each other: even, sometimes, he poured out his pain to Hermione; to get emotional satisfaction.
He was secretly horrifiedβa dangerous tendency. Ever since he insisted on being alone, he realized that he couldn't be completely alone, like a meteorite running in the sky. With some vague desire, he found himself seemingly sharing "everything" with Hermione.
"Leora, what's wrong?"
At this point, he was struck by Hermione's precise sensitivity, and Leora tried to solve this dilemma, and he suddenly had a flash of inspiration - what about Hermione?
Does it also have qualities that depend on him? Maybe it's because Hermione is colder and more objective than he is, but also understands each other better, that is why she has such an indispensable attraction to him? Suddenly, he had the urge to dig deeper.
"Answer me, Hermione, what does it mean to be objective?"
"The ability to exclude the consideration of the 'self' can be called objective."
"Do you consider yourself objective?"
Hermione hesitated for a moment before replying, "I don't have the ability to be objective, this is not the ecology I have been given. Leora. β
"Are the faculties which I have endowed upon you not sufficient to produce the feelings which the individual intellect deserves?" Leora said a little weakly, feeling apologetic and grateful for the computer personality who could only be considered by him.
"I'm sorry, but all my information shows that I have to have your interests at the center, so I have to be above my feelings."
"If you don't feel it, you lose it. Without feelings, there is no desire to create. But I think your generative structure already contains feelings and perceptions, and even more than that. β
"The desire to create, what do you mean by the matching, division, and multiplication of genetic information?"
Leora smiled dumbly: "No, the desire to create is probably also a characteristic of living beings. In short, it is an emotion that wants to occupy a certain state, looking at the desire mechanism of that living being. Non-living beings do not focus on the "me" and naturally do not develop possessiveness. β
Hermione seemed to be struck, and flashed violently: "But, Leora, I think I also seem to have what you call 'possessiveness'. β
Leora was stunned for a moment: "Oh? For what? β
"You."
