Chapter 18: The Missing Reynard

The upgraded Nighthawk is less stealthy and much more lethal, making it fraught with deadly danger. During the next few days of the night patrol, Luke even tried to control Halpier to bring the criminals up and take them to the sky, and the fear gained increased significantly.

The full and enjoyable weekend passed quickly, and Luke came to school like an ordinary seventeen-year-old. As the bell rings, students pour into the classroom to start their day, some talking to each other, others pulling out their laptops or pens and paper to get ready for class.

Luke sat for a while, and found that Renard, who usually had nothing to do and often came to harass him, and a few of his classmates from the expedition team were not there today.

He pulled a boy over and asked, "Did you see Renard today?" Or Albert and a few of them. ”

The boy shook his head and asked him, "Don't you usually play together?" ”

Luke has experienced too many transcendent events recently, and he subconsciously thinks about the worst, whether it is a supernatural location that he has an accident.

He searched carefully, and the three people who often played with Renard did not come to school, so he hurriedly ran out and found the school's public phone booth.

He used to go to Renard's Uncle Sean's gun shop to practice shooting, so he made a note of the phone number there.

The call was quickly connected, and after a brief pleasantry, Luke asked about Renard.

Mr. Sean said Mr. Renard had gone out with a few friends on Saturday morning and never came home. But he used to be keen to go out and explore, and it was not uncommon for him to stay up at night, so his family didn't worry too much. But it's the first time that school has started like this and I haven't returned.

The uneasiness in Luke's heart grew even deeper.

According to Sean's description, Renard and the others seem to have gone to the vicinity of the town of Lynn River in northern Phoenix to find traces of local witches.

In Sean's words, Luke also recalled that Renard had indeed invited him to visit the witch with him last Friday, and told some boring jokes about witches.

Luke had just cleaned up a gang of robbers the night before, and he hadn't slept soundly, and had been catching up on sleep during the day, so he directly rejected his invitation.

Luke is more and more worried about the safety of this old friend, although most of their friendship is in the same place, but Luke has been in time for two weeks, and he has perfectly inherited the memories of his original body, and he has played well with Renard for the past two weeks, and has also recognized this friend.

The more he thought about it, the more worried he became, and under the pretext of having an upset stomach, he asked his teacher for two days off and rode his bicycle home.

When Luke got home, he prepared a little, as usual, brought a Winchester M1897 and a stab-proof suit, prepared two large boxes full of ammunition, and a large bag of instant food and mineral water, and summoned the Nighthawk Halpier, put a series of things in the car, and let Halpier fly in the air to follow, and he hurried towards the town of Linhe in his second-hand Ford Fiesta.

The road conditions were very good, and the road was smooth all the way to the half-hour drive from Linhe Town. Luke happened to see a vehicle not far ahead, which was particularly familiar. He hastened closer, read the license plate, and recognized the car as the one Renard used to drive, but in the cab was a strange hippie.

He accelerated to catch up with the opposing car, overtook and turned the steering wheel violently, leaning in front of the opposing car, braking to a halt, forcing them to stop.

He then picked up Winchester in the passenger seat, walked to the side of the car amid the hippie swearing, and aimed the muzzle of the black hole at the cab.

The young hippie in the driver's seat, with pale blonde curly hair, looked like he hadn't combed it since he got out of bed, and his originally angry expression became docile and humble under the education of the shotgun. He threw up his hands and said, "Hey, buddy, calm down, I don't think we provoked you." If you have something to say, brother, you are still very young, and you must not go down the path of crime. ”

Luke pressed down on the barrel of the gun and told the hippie to roll the glass down, stare him in the eye and say, "You didn't mess with me, but you messed with my friend." ”

The hippie was a little confused and replied, "Dude, I don't know who your friend is, but have I been staying at home honestly these days, and no one has provoked me, are you looking for the wrong person?" ”

Luke put a gun to his head and continued to ask, "No one provoked anyone, so where did this car come from?" ”

The hippie showed a look of sudden realization, and quickly explained: "I picked up this car at a fork in the road, it was parked on the side of the road at noon yesterday, and today I passed by there, and it was still parked there, I thought that no one wanted this car, so I drove it away." ”

Luke stared at him for a moment, and the hippie was frightened and nervous, and his forehead began to sweat uncontrollably.

Luke suddenly said, "Take me to that intersection." He turned and walked towards his car, and after taking two steps, he turned back and said, "You can try to escape, and bet that I will shoot directly." ”

The hand that the hippie had just put down hurriedly raised it again, and said in a panic: "No, no." ”

Luke got out of the way and let the hippie lead the way, and after about ten minutes, the hippie stopped at a fork in the road, walked down, saw Luke also get out of the car, and said to him, "This is it." ”

Luke looked at the ground, and there were indeed rut marks on the parked vehicles. He shook the barrel of the gun and said, "Let's go." ”

The hippie said in a flattering tone, "The bike in the back seat is mine, I can ride it back." ”

Luke replied impatiently, "Yes, let's go." ”

The hippie got off his bike, got up and kicked it off, and walked away.

After quieting down, Luke pulled the two cars aside and observed the neighborhood.

Everything seemed normal here, and he brought in Halpier's point of view, looking down from the sky, and also found nothing.

Luke sat in front of the car and reviewed the clues that existed.

At the latest, by noon yesterday, Renard drove by, or simply came on purpose. Then several people got out of the car and never showed up again.

Luke carefully identified the traces on the side of the road, because it was in the middle of nowhere, not many people passed by, and he could barely make out the footprints of yesterday.

He walked in the direction of most of the footprints, and came between two forks in the road, when suddenly his inspiration was touched by something, and he vaguely seemed to see an extra path.

He hurriedly activated his spiritual energy, allowing these cold energies to circulate in his head and enhance his five senses.

A narrow road appeared out of nowhere.

Sure enough, there was an anomalous event.

Luke returned to the car, put on his stab-proof suit, and then summoned Halpier down and placed it on his shoulder to prevent him from getting lost as he went down the road.

Once everything was ready, Luke used his psionic energy again, secured Winchester, and stepped into the narrow path.
