Chapter 19: The City Is So Empty

Stepping into the secret realm, the weather suddenly darkened, as if from early morning to dusk.

A foul smell greeted him, and the smell reminded Luke of the ogre hut in the jungle, like corpses that had been piled up for an unknown number of days.

Luke followed the taste, stray off the road, and explored into the woods to the west.

He didn't go far, he was keenly aware of a hidden steep slope, slowly descending the steep slope, the bottom of the steep is a large pit with a radius of dozens of meters, the pit is filled with animal carcasses and skeletons, some of which still look fresh, some of which have rotted and deteriorated, and maggots crawl on it, occasionally lowering their heads to feast on the corpses, gnawing on the rotten proteins with their mouthparts.

Luke stepped on the soft dirt, feeling the clammy mud soak through his boots. A dull, damp smell permeated his nose, accompanied by the smell of rotting proteins.

He could barely hear his own breathing, only the frenzy of the chirping of insects around him.

The movement of his arrival was like startling the flying mosquitoes, and they "buzzed" and dispersed in a hurry, like a dusky wind sweeping across his face, becoming a shadow that obscured the sky and the sun.

Luke protected his mouth and nose with one hand, and waved the drive with the other, and the nighthawk standing on his shoulder spread its broad wings in time and fanned a strong gust of wind to blow the mosquitoes away.

After the mosquitoes adjusted to the incoming people, and after gradually regaining their composure, Luke slowed down and explored deeper along the perimeter of the crater.

After crossing the grave, the jungle returned to normalcy and calm, and no anomalous phenomena occurred until he crossed the jungle and returned to the path.

Luke returned to the asphalt and rubbed his feet hard against the curb, rubbing off the mud from the soles of his feet, and walked to the town at the end of the road.

......

There are dilapidated signs erecting at the intersection of the town, and the slogan "Welcome to Ambrose Town" is barely recognizable through the broken lettering.

He commanded Halpier on his shoulder to fly into the sky through his psionic powers, patrolled the guard, sorted out his equipment, and stepped into the town.

The air here is unusually quiet, with only a faint rustling sound from the breeze blowing through the branches. The sound of his footsteps was so clear on the empty road that it seemed to break the silence.

On the walls on both sides of the road, the "Ambrose Town Beauty Pageant" contest posters are crookedly plastered, and at the end of the road is a pure white church.

He continued to walk forward, but still didn't see a single person, as if the entire town had been abandoned by humans.

Luke walked towards the White Church, through the rusty iron fence, up four or five steps, Luke stood on the side of the doorway, pushed open half of the door with force, and did not enter directly, but first jumped out with agility.

In the middle of the night, there was no movement in the church, and Luke, who had been fighting with the air for a long time, walked quietly to the door that was pushed open, leaking half of his face and peeping in.

The round rose windows occupy 1/4 of the wall, and the interior of the church, which should be well-lit, looks dark and gloomy.

Inside, a few people sat sparsely in the front row, and on the altar, a mild-faced priest stood as if to say something.

Luke just took two looks and immediately realized that something was wrong.

The church was so quiet that the priests and the faithful remained motionless in the same position, as if they had been frozen.

Luke entered the church, inciting psionic energy to strengthen his five senses and prevent a possible sudden attack.

He went to the depths of the church and looked up and down the faithful and priests, who looked like people from a distance, but when they got closer, their skin was wax, and it turned out to be wax figures.

There was a coffin under the altar, and there was also a wax figure in the coffin.

He stepped forward slowly, about to probe the truth and the false.

Next to the coffin stood a wax figure in a trench coat, and a trace of a living creature suddenly leaked from his eyes.

The door of the church was windless and voluntarily, slamming shut with a loud "bang".

The church's already underlit environment suddenly became even darker.

Startled by the sudden change, Luke turned to aim at the door with his gun, but saw no one in sight.

He ducked behind a pillar on one side, ready to deal with the sudden change of the enemy.

There was silence in the church, and suddenly, Luke heard a faint rustling sound next to him.

He turned his head to see a wax figure standing up next to him, trying to get closer in the shadows.

Luke's body tensed instantly, he quickly turned around with the gun, pulled the trigger, and the wax figure not far away was torn apart by the huge impact of the lead bullet, and a wisp of energy appeared, which was absorbed by the ability seedlings and became the nutrients for Luke's evolution.

The shot was like a hornet's nest, and the wax figures in the church turned their heads in unison, staring at Luke fiercely, their mouths opening to an eerie width, as if they were roaring silently, and then rushed up and ran towards him.

Luke glanced at it, and after he had eliminated one wax figure, there were at least ten or so left in the church. With one hand, he climbed over the two rows of benches in one go, keeping a safe distance from the wax figures who rushed to him.

The Winchester in his hand shot a lot, knocking out the three wax figures closest to him one by one.

The remaining wax figures seemed to have no human mind, and after tripping over the bench, they raised their pale heads, grinned silently, and quickly climbed towards Luke in a position close to the ground on all fours.

Luke retreated and observed, taking refuge on the other side of the church, and the dense benches in the room became an excellent stumbling block to help Luke stop the pursuit of the wax figures.

Two wax figures climbed out of the enclosed area of the bench and into Winchester's shooting range.

Luke's shooting ability, which he had been honing, was given room to play, so that at close range, he didn't need to aim, and he raised the gun twice to excite, and the accurate headshot made the two wax figures collapse to the ground and turn into experience.

After clearing the six wax figures, the situation in the church became much clearer, and there were still five wax figures left at a glance.

Luke didn't have time to reload his bullets, so he held the barrel upside down, and caught a glimpse of the wax figure that was the fastest in it, Winchester's heavy butt, which fell heavily with the glow of lightning and flame.

The thunder fire erupted as if it was about to ignite the wax figure, and its facial features instantly melted, and it fell to the ground and convulsed.

The other four wax figures also arrived.

A wax arm struck Luke, and he dodged it as he quickly locked onto the enemy on his right, smashing the butt of his gun into the wax figure's head.

Thunder and fire are inspired, and the wax figure melts.

Luke's ability seems to be inherently restrained by these wax figures, after being hit by the psionic thunder fire, the flames in it seem to directly burn the origin energy of the wax figures, just an ordinary direct hit, they completely fall to the ground, although it seems that they have not been destroyed, but they have completely lost the ability to move.

After a short struggle, the first wax figure that was knocked down and melted by the lightning fire suddenly solidified, lost its activity, and turned into ordinary wax figure fragments, and the ability seedlings quietly learned some experience.
