The Burden - Chapter XVII
It took them a full hour to glide across the fields to the mottled bush near the mouth of the canyon, and Androx's mind was constantly trying to figure things out. If Pepper could really let everyone sneak past a line of soldiers, does that mean they can sneak all the way back to Dikaya as well?
What do the demons want? Deanna and Pepper refused to say anything, though they both seemed eager to get him to agree and promised not to kill anyone until at least talking to them. Pepper should at least know that if the enemy wants to speak, Androx always speaks first. It's no different. Do they want his money? They didn't get anything.
Pepper has always called them Nightmen, and Andrx thinks that makes sense. Their skin is dark. His old Filipinos initially thought they were captive souls, murderous souls, which is why they called them demons. Frankly, considering the people he met before little Seif, it was easier for him to believe that they were malevolent souls captured by spells than to think they were sane people. And all after him. Except, now that he remembered, the man from the stone field, who had a child under the stone.
Despite the muddy terrain and rocks and bushes everywhere, they had a great time until Flower's thin legs finally failed. Pepper prepared for the worst and panicked until he was convinced that his brother was not dying, but just too tired. But as Flower returned to his horse and fell asleep, Androx felt that things were going too fast for him to make a plan.
The king's army was now assembled less than two miles from them, in a ring of protective formations around the pass. The mountainside on either side of the canyon is rocky for a considerable distance, and at least the first two hundred steps are bare. It will be very slow terrain when fully visible. There's no way to hide, there's no way to hurry.
With each step, they got closer to the king and his army, and only Hua was immune to the growing fear as he fell asleep. This can be seen from the way Pepper twitches at the slightest sound; Gabi stood straight like a plank, arms crossed, brow furrowed, preoccupied; Aguna waved her arms as she walked, as if she was going to hit something. Pepper finds a small hole near a wall of thorny bushes and burrows into it, waving for everyone to join him. He kept rubbing his hands nervously against his shirt, his soft black tail shaking behind him, revealing his uncertain thoughts.
He said, "Well, I've never tried it in front of so many people, so I'm not sure if, um, I guess I can do it, but everybody has to help, because—" Pepper's mouth dried up, and he temporarily lost the ability to speak.
"Pepper," said Deanna, leaning into his field of vision to get his attention, "wouldn't it help if I held the flower and let Gabby ride her deer after me?" You don't have to sneak us all over. ”
Pepper returned the salute with a look of relief, bordering adoration. "Yes, I didn't...... I didn't intend to do that, so I'm not sure if it'......"
"All you need to do is let Andr and Agunn sneak through the army. I can take care of other people. How does that sound?"
Pepper breathed a sigh of relief and almost laughed. His voice became hoarse as a result. He exhaled sharply and said, "I'm thinking I'm going to have to hide everyone, and Gabi's deer, the wolf, and the horse, I'm really nervous!"
No one laughed with him, although he did get a few sympathetic smiles. In fact, this is a particularly persuasive quote from Arguna. This woman certainly has her skills.
Andex asked, "And what are your specific plans?"

A replied. "I walked with the flowers, and Gabby rode behind me. Let's just go up the mountain. They will never catch us. They won't even try. Gabi, is that deer running fast? He could, right?"
"His name is Bobby, and he's faster than a horse." Anchors could hear a hint of skepticism, or distrust, in her voice. Good girl.
Deanna nodded and said, "Good." Once we get back to the Nightmen, we'll be safe for a while, and we can wait for Pepper to smuggle the others up. Satis is glad to meet you, Gabi. Wolfscar keeps telling him all sorts of crazy stories about you. Deer, wolves, and an eagle. There's also something about Flower that I don't quite believe. ”

Okles didn't want him to speak. He raised his hand and said, "So you're going to take my daughter and my other son and run straight to the devil's lair on the hillside." Pepper is going to sneak through the barbarian army led by the Wizard King with the tallest man and his stinky temper woman. Once we are reunited, there will be singing and honey cake. Right?"
She blushed, not daring to look him in the eye. "Yes, Master Androx, that's right. That's our plan. ”
For a moment, no one spoke. It sounds ridiculous, but frankly, Andokes can't decide if it's a good plan or a bad one.
Pepper said calmly, "Okay, can't we go up the hill after you?" Why are we going through the camp?"
