2.7------ Numerous titles

After Tori escapes the building, Mina slowly wipes down the counter. When it was done, she checked all the documents for the day, mostly according to the logs I knew of who had accepted the assignment, and when she was satisfied, put it in a locked box under the counter. She stretched out, stretched, then grabbed a notebook and five low-quality flowers that the adventurer had dropped, and walked out from behind the counter.

Mina crouched down in front of me, eye level, ha, grabbing behind my ears. "Well, cat, I can't call you cat in my heart all the time. Or say it out loud, so, I decided to name you Soot. She said, I kind of expected her to name it, it felt like a big deal, but oh okay. I think I'm soot now.

"Well, that day was so long! And so it went on, and the adventurers were all bastards. She grumbled, quickly picked me up and snatched me out of my beloved warm blanket and sunshine. I let out a small protest, and Mina completely ignored my voice. She walked up the stairs to her room, put me on the table, and then sighed wearily and collapsed on the bed. Enjoy the feeling of lying face down in pillows and blankets and doing nothing all day.

As an expert in this area, I agree with this choice, although personally, if I were her, I would have changed out of the guild receptionist uniform.

Mina is going to sleep for a while and I need to do something productive. Sure, I had a whole day of free time just sitting on a blanket in the sun while being petted by all sorts of adventurers, but it wasn't really free, because I needed to eavesdrop and judge random people. It is indeed hard and painful work.

I decided to try something. Both Radia and Mina now refer to a 'stature' that can be brought up as long as they are focused? This sounds like a pretty important thing to do, but how should I focus on it? After all, it doesn't hurt to give it a try, and a long, scrolling blue window appeared in front of my eyes.

Well, that's settled. Now, what does all this mean? The name is obviously a bit unpleasant, as it says Soot, not my name when I was a human. Level 1 was disappointing, but not surprising considering I didn't do anything that could improve it. Race, I guess, is my feline. No course makes sense, but the space there means I can finally get a course. Do cats have their own classes? Or do I have to take a regular class while being a cat like a mage? My title is blank, but it says there's a choice, I'll take a look. My health may have declined due to my paw injury. The mana must be full because I don't know how to use it. Thankfully, the skills are also simple. I know I have level 2 insight and level 1 pathetic, I think I got the automatic translation skills when I came here? It is impossible for everyone to happen to speak the same language as me. I don't know any spells.

Well rested as I slept all day. The unfamiliar body debuff makes sense, I'm still very new to four legs. In the end, athleticism was impaired, which was almost certainly because my paws were bandaged

Before scrolling back to the Headers section, I make sure there are no other rows missing from the table, and I might as well check what is available to me. I mentally cue the status menu to show me choices, and the concept of controlling the menu with my mind still feels weird.

Well...... At least the first few sound cool. Unfortunately, the decline from Death Defiant to Pacifist to Cheap Hunt has been fairly fast, and it seems like I have more titles that insult me than titles that can actually serve the role of titles. "Thief" and "thief" I have nothing to complain about, after all, I stole the bread from the baker. "Pacifist" and "deplorable" are also based on facts that I can't reasonably refute, but the other headlines are biased and rude.

"Nosy people" on the list of impoliteness. I'm not keen on using insight to look at the private details of every adventurer who walks into a guild, I'm just trying to gather valuable information about how the world works while effectively upskilling myself. Again, I'm not judging, but I'm actually ...... Yes, now that I think about it, I'm judging, but they all deserve it, and it didn't hurt anyone, so shut up, status menu. I'm not a "cheap" person either, Mina brought me here out of the goodness of her heart and gave me a place to live, but I made her happy, so we are equal.

Finally, the last title is "Spectator". I probably got it when Mina was fighting that bastard flower picker, because I was fine. I'll admit, I'm just a cat and I can't rebuke them or fight them. Even hitting them hard didn't help, and Mina's parents would only let me stay here if they didn't get into trouble.

But for now, I still need to choose a title. I'm going with a cooler title that might give away my identity as the hero who was supposed to arrive but didn't arrive – after all I suspect a lot of cats have the title of "World Traveler" – and that probably won't end well. What if the church forces me to fight? What if I go to jail for absconding? If I have to end a war, how can I sit at the counter all day doing nothing?

So, I had to choose between sounding cool and being smart and safe.

The title has been set to "Rebel of the Gods".

I love this title and I truly deserve it. I just exist, and they come to me through various circumstances. Of course, this is one of the riskier names to choose, but who would use an I on a random cat

Sight, who's going to listen to them anyway? Yes, of course, imaginary people, everyone will be completely convinced that a certain cat is fighting with God.

Closing the status menu, I looked at Mina, who reluctantly slowly got up from the bed and walked towards the table where I was lying. Hopefully she'll have an interesting reaction to my new title.
