Chapter 2: Hunting and Shelter

As soon as the window appeared, Steve heard a breeze blowing behind him. Just a fraction of a second later, ha, his own cat instinct was aroused, and he pushed himself to the side. Moments later, his claws landed on the snow again, but lost his grip on the ice, sending him tumbling to the side. He barely saw the bird's talons scraping on the ground he was just on before he started rolling.

When he slipped and fell to the side, Steve slid further and reached the slope, and instead of slowing down, he began to pick up speed, rolling down the slippery slope with a wild scream. Every time he fell to the ground, he felt a slight shock to his health, and he reached out to stop himself, and eventually, after a few strokes, his claws found support on the ground. However, he felt that there was no snow under his paws, but wet grass and soft dirt.

He entered the forest, where the canopy of the first few trees hung protectively above his head. He felt pain in every part of his body, and he meowed softly in protest, but he rose up and walked a little further into the shield of the branches.

To be honest, he limped forward feeling a little sour, and the whole "grace period" might have been a bit of a scam, but then again, he could certainly consider himself lucky because he had received a mission. He muttered quietly and continued into the forest until he heard another beep.

[Random Mission: "Escape from the Bullet Hawk!] Completely.

Reward: 50 XP]

[Upgrade!] ]

Feel...... Much better. He quickly checked his status again, skimming through the numbers.

Almost all of his stats have been increased, which is good, but other than that, his health has also recovered. He was sure that the temperature had dropped below 8 after he fell, but he wasn't 100% sure how much.

[Lv.: Abbreviation for level, this value shows the player's growth status.] It increases as experience is gained. After leveling up, some stats will be automatically increased and 3 stats will be awarded. In addition, half of an individual's resources will be regenerated. Sharing of experiences among Parties. ]

This...... He felt some primitive part of his brain saying it could work with it. He was still bitter and a little annoyed by the whole situation, but he knew it was an opportunity to change his life for the better.

Before he can achieve any grand dreams, though, he needs to find a place to sleep. Ha

He was more awake now, and he knew that the night would not bother him, but if time passed here in a similar way to Earth, he might only have sixteen or so good hours.

Head deeper into the forest. At the transition between snow and woods, there is a little clearing, favorable terrain. A field usually means a mouse, and he can certainly deal with rats better than a forest. Maybe falling off the mountain is better than you think!

As the thought crossed his mind, he felt his sides and shoulders ache again. The impact of the rush down from the plane temporarily dispelled the pain, but it soon returned, albeit much smaller. It's something he can wear through fairly easily, even if the chafing hurts a little when he moves.

As he walked deeper into the forest, his mind wandered. It's not too far away, though, and he doesn't want to think about the full meaning of reincarnation.

It was his first day, a new day, and he wanted to think more about what he wanted to do in the future.

First of all, he has MP value. It stands for magic, and the key word is magic. Sure, Steve may have been 36 years old when he died, but the idea of doing real magic was still magical to him.

Maybe it's a summoner or a beast master or something, so he doesn't have to get too close to the enemy himself. He certainly didn't have much interest in fighting the kind of monsters he saw in the game. What exactly exists in this place? Bloodsucker? Demon? Terrible gods? He tried to take his mind off the thought as quickly as possible.

Construct. As a cat, it can be a bit inconspicuous, so being a thief is certainly an option. But he's in the forest now, and stealing skills doesn't do him any good. He's always loved the idea of magical craft.

However, before he could spend his points, he felt his stomach growl. Yes, in this case, first the food, then the magic.

- - -

Soon, Steve began to appreciate his new vision. It took him a while to spot a small mouse running along the edge of the forest, but once he saw it, tracking it down was effortless. The rats also run around carefree and don't seem to worry about anything, suggesting that there must be few predators in the area. Little did it know, it was about to be caught.

Steve slowly dived towards his prey, his chest close to the ground. The rat stopped and sniffed the air, and he saw an opportunity. His legs bent to jump, and he jumped—

I saw the rat galloping away in the air. Do you smell him? He grimaced. Defeated by rats. But it's okay. He has a game-like system, so he'd better take advantage of it. His form has risen rapidly, and he has put all three points of his recent level into agility.

Dexterity: 9 -> 12

The effect is immediate, and it becomes lighter. His body responds more quickly to his commands and moves more fluidly. Well, yes, he will get used to it.

While looking for another mouse, Steve is almost silent, focusing on his surroundings.

Walking for a while, he noticed that his Sp had dropped by one, but he had also locked on another mouse, which was a little fatter than the previous one. It was also munching on a fallen apple and seemed to be distracted by food. Perfect prey.

Steve sneaked up on the ground by hiding between the trees, carefully avoiding sticks or leaves on the ground, and when he was within jump distance, he carefully made sure he landed, and that's when he remembered something else. Dash. Well, both Agile and Sprint have increased, and it's time to put both to the test. Use!

In the blink of an eye, the kitten leaped forward, its paws stretched out in the air, and quickly plunged into the mouse's body, holding it firmly in place, while the mouse struggled to escape. A quick bite on the neck was over.

[Killed a mouse.] Gain: 5 XP, 1 Gold]

He did it! He has already killed his first prey! This should help alleviate his hunger pangs right now, it's time for a snack! Surprisingly, the rat tastes very good. Of course, it's not a five-star meal, but it's perfectly edible. Well, except for the fur and entrails, which he quickly slapped off when he was done. Any self-respecting cat wouldn't eat these, he instinctively knew it.

Still, something in his stomach made him feel better, and he forcibly pressed down on the more disgusting, human parts of his body. Now that it's Cat City, his part needs two things: water and a place to sleep. Thirst is now less important because rats also have some blood in their flesh.

But the sun had already set, and he wanted to find a place to rest before the sun rose again.

He was very surprised that the world was not dark, but became dark. He saw so clearly where his eyes were pointing, almost like two small flashlights hanging from his pupils.

He used the top of the hill to orient himself and went to the left, not going up or down too much. There aren't a lot of animals here either, with only the occasional rat or rabbit scurrying around, and countless insects buzzing. He had heard a chirping sound once, but it was a little deeper than any bird he was used to. When he stumbles upon a small pond, he meets his first larger animal, which has a small stream flowing from the mountain.

There was actually a bear in front of the pond. A huge black bear. In real adults, muscles bulge under protective fat. Seeing this scene, he was stunned, and his heart jumped suddenly. The idea that he was in some kind of "beginner zone" collapsed at that moment. Steve immediately turned around. Nu-uh. He couldn't have done that. No, not this time. Of course, it may be better to die from a bear than to choke on food from the cafeteria,

Just as he snuck away, he heard a slight bell ringing in his head.

[Acquire skills through specific actions.] ]

He quickly glanced at the moment when the notification disappeared, and his heart was a little panicked. The timing of this skill couldn't be more perfect! And again, passive! Awesome!

Leaning on skill, he boldly escaped, surely stepping between branches and dry leaves. Once he had made it far enough, he let out a long sigh that left his mouth in the dark.

His human mind longs to go home, just to lie in bed or on the couch, back to the potato. Thought he was undone by what inspired him. Wasn't he just reincarnated as the most powerful dragon or something? He could have garrisoned, ruled things or something like that! Instead, he was in search of shelter in the forest.

Luckily, a suitable place was quickly found. It was an old, hollow log, flat on the ground, and it was hard to spot all the grass around. The place is not very luxurious, but at least it will stop the rain,

That means it's good enough for now. There was also a water source nearby, although he preferred to go there when the bear population was significantly lower. In the future, he had to conduct reconnaissance in the area around the logs and lakes, but for now, he just wanted to check his identity again.

HP: 9/13

MP:4/4

SP:13/17

He's still a little tired, so he jogs once in a while to enjoy the feeling.

But he also upgraded today. This means that he must have certain skill points. "Meow?" He asked, trying to open the skill store.

As soon as he thought of this, a new window popped up, this one was a little different from the previous one. It has a search bar and multiple categories that look ...... Kind of fitting what he knows? In addition to that, he can also scroll down. There seemed to be an endless number of skills hidden in the window, each stacked on top of each other. However, in the very bottom corner of the window, he saw another thing.

[Skill Points: 100]

His points are exactly 100 points. Luckily, most of the skills seem to be priced in multiples of 100. He's ...... now. Want to avoid this. His feline brain seems to be well suited to slapping and biting things at close range, but his human part is vehemently opposed.

He only considered a few skills. Something for polishing, fighting from a distance, or running away. Maybe it was a call, but after a quick check of the price, the category was temporarily eliminated. More than 1000 points. Coins.

And even if he could afford it, he couldn't buy it now.

The reason is simple. In order to gain troops for his army, he must defeat them. The rat wasn't exactly the perfect image of a soldier in his mind. No, what he needs is far from that, what he needs is security. So, he chose. He didn't know exactly what this skill would give him, but he could deduce from the title.

Specifically, it was carving, which he knew could be done with his claws. What if the system can read his thoughts, calm him down, and merge his thoughts with those of cats?

[Acquire skills from the Skill Shop.] ]

Right now!

All right. So, uh, what exactly are runes?

[Rune: The alphabet of the language of magic.] When carved into an object and imbued with magic, they can enhance the properties of the object. Runes are classified by rank and rank. The higher the level and rank, the better the runes. Levels range from 1 to 10, and levels range from low to high. Example: A low-level 3 rune. Instance is currently aware of runes:,]

It feels strange to read the last part. When he thought about them, Steve realized that he did recognize the runes. As if he had known them all along, it clearly didn't make sense. Do they come with skills? Well, probably.

He took some time to clear a little moss, then carefully placed his paw on the inside of the bark and began to draw patterns in his mind.

The runes are fairly simple at the moment, and when he starts carving, the skill is automatically activated. After moving slowly and carefully for a few minutes, making sure that each line was clear and properly connected, another hint appeared, and with it, he could feel his energy being sucked away by the runes. For a moment, it emits a soft glow, then reverts back to carving.

[Successfully carved a lower-level strengthening rune.] Gain: 10 XP]

His eyes widened a little as he looked at the exp notification. This was unexpected. He had thought that he would most likely only be able to escalate by killing, but apparently that was not the case. Knowing that this would help him level up, Steve wanted to carve another rune right away, but remembering the gutter, he checked his resources first.

MP:0/4

Yes. With flying colors. That's pretty bad. It also made him lose focus and keep his paws up for so long. It's a little annoying, and the emptiness of the mana being drained makes him a little irritable, but it's bearable. It's just uncomfortable, but he'll have to get used to it, he grumbled inwardly.

[MP: Abbreviation for Mana, which shows the amount of magical energy in your body that you can use to cast spells, or use other magical abilities.] It passively regenerates by absorbing mana from the air. The maximum capacity depends on intelligence. The rate of regeneration depends on intelligence. ]

Well, then he's going to at least try to get through this time efficiently and see his unique skills. "Meow," he said.

A new window opened immediately. This looks very similar to the Skill Store, with multiple tabs at the top and a search bar with a scroll bar on the right and his currency at the bottom. The amount of 1 gold coin he currently holds in his hand is unbelievable, jaw-dropping, dumbfounded, and shocking.

But there is one difference, and that is that there is a shopping cart on the right. Ah, then definitely drag-and-drop. He immediately tried it and randomly moved an item on the cart icon, then the system asked how many he wanted to buy. This way he can choose as many items as he wants and then pay at checkout. It's at least convenient, and it seems to be able to respond to psychic commands. Now, what is a tab?

Consumables, raw materials, armor, weapons, tools, and others.

The skill looked very, very good now, so he took the time to check the items inside. They are in alphabetical order, although he can change the order in which they look. So, how much does the first one cost?

100 000 gold. Each item on the first page is over 100,000. He blinked in confusion, then shook his head and asked the store to reorder and display the cheap items first.

…… Steve was a little annoyed and maybe a little annoyed when the cheapest item in the entire store was a small life potion for 100 gold. It cures 5 hp. Essentially, this is the equivalent of some scratches, for which he has to kill 100 mice.

He tried to smack his tongue in frustration, and although it wasn't very successful, he understood the point. He grunted, tired again, and banged his paw against the wall. He regretted this decision almost immediately, as it had reduced his precious health by another point. Ha

He took a deep breath to calm himself down, but his inner chagrin felt unforgiving.

At least, after venting the anger in his heart, he was in a better mood. In any case, there is no point in being depressed, he must accept the fact that it may not be useful in the near future. Now he didn't have much to do, and it was still far from bedtime, so he had to curl up until he was comfortable and decided to give it a try. It's time for some systematic research!
