Chapter 248: Out of the Mountain
In the process of handling the funeral, Zhang Zhongchang, the magistrate of Xinzhou, learned that Yan Fakui, who was beheaded in the autumn of that year, was still at large, and immediately issued a general order to arrest him and bring him to justice, and it was confirmed that he was beheaded.
Since then, the danger of Huineng's pursuit has also been lifted.
According to Li's last words before his death, Huineng buried Li next to Lu Xingyao's tomb on the top of Longshan Mountain.
On the day of Li's funeral, Huineng knelt in front of the mulloil wearing linen and filial piety, and Li Xiaolan and Liang Jinlian also knelt with Huineng like a filial child, crying and mourning......
In Xialu Village, suona and eight sounds were mixed with crying and mourning, and they sounded together.
In the sky above Xialu Village, a sudden autumn wind swept by, and a burst of dark clouds drifted in, followed by a fluttering autumn rain, as if he was also mourning and weeping for the loss of his mother by the sixth ancestor Huineng......
At this time, in the wilderness of Xialu Village, the vast land was shrouded in rain and fog, which was confusing and added a little sorrow.
A burst of funeral suona sounded eight sounds, and the mourning sound echoed in the sky above Xialu Village. A team of linen and filial piety, holding paper flags, crying and mourning, followed in front of the four strong men carrying the coffin, Huineng wore linen and filial piety, holding the spiritual seat, Wen Zai, Cowboy helped him out of the village, they walked, while scattering the paper to the sky.
The paper fluttered in the wind and rain, falling leisurely on the field, stained with mud.
The funeral procession sent Li to the top of Longshan Mountain for burial before slowly descending the mountain......
After Huineng finished the funeral for his mother, on the first seven days, he built a grass hut next to the cemetery to keep filial piety for Li's mother.
Filial piety comes first, this is the tradition left by our ancestors.
In ancient times, loyalty and filial piety were regarded as the standard by which a person was measured, and this standard has been used by successive dynasties.
Keeping filial piety for relatives lasted for three years, which is the rule left by the ancestors.
Confucius, a representative figure of Confucianism, said: A child is born for three years, and then he is free from the arms of his parents. The three-year mourning of the husband is also the mourning of the world! This is the reason for keeping filial piety for three years. It took you three years to leave the arms of your parents, and when your parents left, you were asked to keep filial piety for three years, which is our ancient Chinese rite.
Ancient people paid great attention to loyalty and filial piety, among which filial piety is particularly important, after the death of parents in ancient times, children should be mourned, do not be an official within three years, do not marry, do not go to banquets, should not be examined, this is called Ding worry. In addition, you can't wear red and green during the filial piety period, and you can't participate in entertainment, visit relatives and friends during the filial piety period, and so on.
The three-year funeral came from Shang, and after the Zhou destroyed Shang, he also accepted this system, but there were still a large number of princes in the Spring and Autumn Period, and no one came out to blame, indicating that it had not become a general practice at that time.
β¦β¦
Huineng kept filial piety for his mother in this small grass house, and more than three years passed quietly......
After Huineng returned to the south with the mantle of Zen Buddhism, he hid in the deep mountains of Sihui, Huaiji, and Xinzhou in Guangdong for more than ten years, and kept filial piety in the thatched hut in his hometown Longshan for another three and a half years, and spent a total of 15 extraordinary years in Lingnan.
These fifteen years are the fifteen years of Huineng bitter happiness, the fifteen years of practice, the fifteen years of losing one's loving mother and marriage, and the fifteen years of arduous practice of the Buddha's heart and dharma.
In the past fifteen years, Huineng has stepped from a handsome young man to a mature and stable middle age.
One night near the Spring Festival, Huineng walked out of the door after meditating in this small hut as usual, only to see an old monk in the distance, holding a crystal bowl in his hand, using a kind of internal force to cultivate into a deep and dense sound transmission of superior internal strength, and sent the sound of chanting into his ears from a distance, so that he could hear clearly:
The prime of life does not come back,
It's hard to get back in the morning.
The King of Dharma should encourage,
Time does not wait.
β¦β¦
"The Dharma?" Huineng pondered the old monk's chanting...... Suddenly, I remembered that his father had told him when he was a child: early in the morning when he was born, there were two monks standing at the door, one was over eighty years old, and the other was over half a hundred years old.
β¦β¦
Huineng smiled, returned to the thatched hut, picked up the bag containing the ancestor's robe, went out and looked back at the thatched hut where he had lived for more than three years, and even forgot to say goodbye to Li Xiaolan, Liang Jinlian and other relatives and friends, so he followed the old monk straight down the mountain......
The sound of firecrackers for the New Year in the distant villages urged the wild plums to open up, and a great spring was written in the vast wilderness. Huineng said to himself: "The Spring Festival is here, spring is coming, and I should go down the mountain." β
β¦β¦
In the first year of Tang Yifeng (676 AD), on the eighth day of the first lunar month, Huineng came to Guangzhou City (which belonged to Nanhai County at that time).
Guangzhou is the first stop of Bodhidharma adhering to the legacy of Prajnadora, sailing east in the ordinary years of Emperor Wu of Liang, and landing on a raft to the eastern land of the Tang Dynasty, from which the allusion of "crossing the river with a reed" comes from.
At this time, the streets of Guangzhou are criss-crossed, the traffic is busy, the tourists are weaving, and it is a prosperous scene.
Huineng asked passers-by, "Which temple is the biggest in this city?" Which place is the path of a high monk deeper?"
"Dharma Temple."
"Dharma Temple."
"Dharma Temple!"
Although the clothing of the pedestrians on the road indicated that they belonged to a different class, their answers were all the same.
Huineng deduced the status of the Dharma Temple in the city of Guangzhou, and inquired all the way to find directions.
Next to a large blue brick street, there is a large temple -
Dharma Temple.
At that time, the Faxing Temple, which is now the Guangxiao Temple in Guangzhou, is a famous temple in Lingnan
One.
Fa Xing Temple was originally not a temple, but the palace of Zhao De, the king of Nanyue in the Western Han Dynasty, and the pavilion
Layered, the grass and trees are forested, locking the infinite spring.
At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, the Three Kingdoms competed for power, and there was a famous strategist Yu Fu under the command of Sun Zhongmou, an important minister of Eastern Wu, who was demoted to Lingnan because of the crime against the emperor.
Yu is talented, has unique insights in analyzing problems, has many disciples, and has a good reputation. The world calls this place "Yu Yuan", because Yu turned in the rare trees at that time - Kezi tree, dense into a forest, unique characteristics, so the world also called this place "Kelin".
After Yu turned over and died of illness, his descendants believed in Buddhism, changed the garden into a temple, called "the decree", invited dozens of monks to live, chanted Buddha all the year round, and exceeded the dead.
Later, the Yu family fell, and the monks stayed here, which evolved into a holy place for Buddhism. In the first year of Long'an of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (397 AD), Mayasha from Kashmir built the "Wangyuan Temple" here, spread the Buddhist scriptures widely, and spread the fame.
Subsequently, all the monks from foreign countries like to come here to rest, and it has become one of the important famous temples in Lingnan.
In the first year of Emperor Wu of Liang, the first ancestor of Zen Buddhism Bodhidharma came to Guangzhou from Tianzhu, and he was stationed in this temple, and the true meaning of the master of West India also lived in this temple, translating more than 40 scriptures.
Today, the arrival of Huineng is destined to open a new page in the history of Buddhism.
Huineng came to the tall mountain gate of the Faxing Temple, looked over, and couldn't help but exclaim: "Yo, it's really extraordinary!"
Huineng hesitated slightly, raised his right foot, and strode towards the high threshold.
Huineng's step has become a key step for him to step towards the majestic throne of the Buddha's hall!
The subsequent Zen machine in the temple not only became a turning point in Huineng's life, but also an important pivot in the rapid promotion of Buddhism and Zen machine.
After Huineng walked into the Dharma Temple, he looked at it, and there were many trees inside, thick shade, tortuous corridors, and an elegant environment. The Tianwang Palace, the Garan Palace, the Thousand Buddha Palace, the Sleeping Buddha Pavilion, the Wind Banner Hall, the Bell Tower, and the Drum Tower are all bucket arches and cornices, red walls and green tiles, overflowing solemnity in the grandeur.
Huineng exclaimed in his heart: "This holy place of Buddhism can be regarded as the crown of the Brahman realm!" β
The Daxiong Treasure Hall built on the high platform is more majestic. Inside and outside the main hall, there were crowds of people, and the black pressure was overwhelming, and the entire hall was stuffed, and even outside the main hall there were hundreds of believers. As a rough estimate, there were more than three thousand people in the audience.
Guangzhou is the most prosperous metropolis in Lingnan, with a large number of celebrities and business travelers. When the Bodhidharma patriarch came to China by boat, it was from here that he set foot on the land of China and sowed the seeds of Zen;
Now, his grandson of the Five Transmissions, Huineng, will also begin to spread the Dharma from here, spreading the Zen Dharma, so that Zen, a treasure of human civilization, will become more and more brilliant.
Is this a fortuitous coincidence, or is it a historical necessity?
At this time, Huineng looked up to the heavens and saw the flags hanging high on the high flagpole of the Faxing Temple, waving in the wind, and his heart was excitedβhe knew that the flags in the temple were raised and the five-colored ribbons were fluttering, indicating that there were major Dharma activities that day;
Today, the banner is raised, which means that there are senior monks in the temple to preach.
With the endless flow of people, Huineng slowly walked into the Dharma Temple. But seeing a few red plums like stars, the dark fragrance floats, conveying the message to people that the harsh winter has passed.
On the ordination platform in the temple, a teenage novice knelt down to a Bodhi tree and bowed, his expression solemn and solemn.
A seventeen or eighteen-year-old young Zen monk named Fakong ran over and reprimanded him: "Baby, are you crazy again? The Buddha and Bodhisattva in the main hall don't worship, what do you worship a tree nervously? β
The infant turned a deaf ear, Gu Zisan knelt down and bowed, and seemed to be muttering something in his mouth.
Fa Kong's mouth was endless: "No wonder Master Yinzong gave you the Dharma name 'Infant Xing', it seems that you will never grow up, and you are still like a three-year-old baby, holding a clod of soil as a bun." β
The infant bow was finished, and he glanced at Fakong: "What do you know!" β
Fakong said: "I am your senior brother, I started earlier than you, older than you, I have heard more scriptures than you, and naturally I know more than you. β
Ying Xing pouted: "The wooden fish in the hall is earlier than you, older than you, and has heard more scriptures than you, does it know more than you?" In a while, let's stop knocking on it, just knock on your skull. β
Fakong opened his mouth and stammered, and he muttered for a long time before saying, "Then if you don't worship the statue of Buddha and Bodhisattva, what do you worship a tree?" β
"Master said that the golden bodhisattva does not save the furnace, the wood bodhisattva does not save the fire, the mud bodhisattva does not save the water, my infant is a big living person, and I want to worship the living Bodhisattva." The baby walked with his hands on his waist and said it confidently.
Fakong mocked: "This tree, is it a living bodhisattva?" β
Instead of answering, the infant asked, "Let me ask you, what kind of tree is this?" β
Fakong said: "Bodhi Tree." β
The infant then asked, "Since you know that it is a sacred tree, why don't you let me pray?" β
Fakong laughed and said, "Buddha Shakyamuni became a Buddha under the Bodhi tree. But his old man's home was under the Bodhi tree on the banks of the Nirenchan River in India, not under this tree. What is the use of you worshipping it? β
