Chapter 802: Longshan asks Zen
In the first month of the first year of Shenlong (705), the prime minister Zhang Khan Zhi was demoted to Lingnan Xinzhou, Du Fu and Du Wei's two uncles and nephews went out of Lin'an to travel to the famous mountains and rivers to Huizhou, and took the road to visit.
Zhang Cambodia invited them to go to Longshan Guoen Temple to worship the six ancestors.
In Longshan Guoen Temple, I learned a lot of mysteries of the six ancestors Huineng, and knew that the five ancestors taught the secrets and the golden bowl of the robe to Huineng, and Huineng was the real sixth-generation master of the Buddhist Zen forest.
After stepping out of Longshan Guoen Temple, near the foot of Longshan Mountain, Du Fu, Du Wei, and Zhang Cambodia overheard the local people talking about another version of the Sixth Ancestor Huineng returning to Xinzhou from Caoxi:
After the six ancestors received the mantle from the five ancestors, they devoted themselves to Buddhism and wanted to set up an altar to preach and purify all sentient beings. He was determined to build a monastery in his former residence in Xinxing County to preach Buddhist scriptures and Zen machines. But to build a temple, it's not so easy to say, you have to pay 10,000 taels of silver.
For this matter, the sixth ancestor Hui Neng thought about it day and night. One night, he stared at the mantle handed down to him by his five ancestors in a daze. In the haze, Guanyin Bodhisattva came to him and said to him, "There is a mountain behind the place where you are living, called Dragon Mountain. Walking along the ridge, you will come across a pit at the bottom of a wok, dug to a depth of two and a half feet, and there is a jar of silver there that will be enough for you to build a temple. However, in the pit where the silver is dug, you have to remember to plant a lychee tree, you must remember. ”
The six patriarchs were worried about the construction of the temple, and after listening to what Guanyin Bodhisattva said, they became happy for a while, and couldn't help dancing their hands and feet, and touched the oil lamp on the table to the ground. "Bang" sounded, waking the six ancestors from their dreams. It turned out to be a dream of Nanke.
But when he thought about it, it didn't look like a dream, because he still remembered Guanyin Bodhisattva's instructions very clearly and understood very clearly. So, early the next morning, the Sixth Ancestor Hui Neng hurried back and found that place according to Guanyin Bodhisattva. Hey! Sure enough, he dug up a jar of silver.
The Sixth Patriarch was extremely happy, and according to the instructions of Guanyin Bodhisattva, he carefully selected a lychee sapling and planted it in that place with his own hands. Later, the Longshan Temple was built, and the lychee planted by the six ancestors himself also flourished, and it was full of lychees every year. Those lychees are not only thin and thick, but also sweet and refreshing, and the people in the neighborhood like to eat them. As a result, many people began to grow this kind of lychee, and more and more people planted it.
After a long time, when Li Chang, a Jinshi of Zhoubei Village, returned from his post as the superintendent of Fujian and returned to his hometown, he also brought back a lychee species called "Zhuangyuanhong" in Fujian to plant. There are more varieties of lychee that can be grown. As a result, more and more people are growing lychees. For a time, the "emerging lychee" became famous far and wide, spreading ten, ten, hundreds, and finally to Kyoto, and even the emperor knew about it. The emperor heard that the lychees in Xinzhou were planted by the six ancestors, which must not be an ordinary thing, so he passed down a holy decree to ask Xinxian to pay tribute to the imperial court lychees, and sent "Qincha" to supervise the transportation. After the lychee was sent to the palace, the emperor immediately sent the concubines and palace people to come and taste it. While eating, they gathered around the emperor and said, "I have never eaten such a sweet and delicious lychee." ”
The emperor Long Yan was very happy, and praised repeatedly: "It's so fragrant!" It smells so good!" That is, the edict was issued: "The state and the state are fragrant, and the tribute is paid every year." ”
From then on, all the county magistrates who served in Xinzhou County had to pay tribute to the imperial court with lychees, and Xinzhou Xiangli was also well-known at home and abroad.
After Du Fu listened, he looked at Zhang Cambodia and said jokingly: "Prime Minister Zhang, remember to pay tribute!" ”
After hearing this, Zhang Cambodia humorously, "Rules, always want!" After saying that, they looked at each other and smiled.
Du Fu, Du Wei and Zhang Khan Zhi talked while walking, and inadvertently, Du Fu saw a steam rising not far away, and looked at Du Wei very strangely: "Where is the front, why is there a steam rising?" ”
Du Fu, Du Wei and Zhang Cambodia were curious to come to the place where the steam was rising. I saw more than a dozen people waiting in line with buckets of water.
Zhang Cambodia was curious and asked the old man nearby. But he couldn't understand the northern dialect spoken by outsiders, and looked at Zhang Cambodia suspiciously, not knowing how to answer.
Du Wei was sent by the imperial court to Xinzhou to serve as an army for ten years, and learned the local dialect, so he acted as a translator.
Du Wei asked in the local dialect: "Uncle, how do you wait in line for the water rack?" ”
After some understanding, Du Weifang learned that this rising hot spring was indeed a hot spring and was related to the six ancestors of Zen Buddhism. So, Du Wei translated what the old man said to Du Fu and Zhang Khan Zhi in the original local:
This hot spring is related to the six ancestors Huineng. When the sixth ancestor Hui was able to come back, it happened to be early in the morning in Xinzhou, especially the people in Longshan who had no water to drink and no food to eat.
After learning about it, the sixth ancestor of Zen Buddhism, Hui Neng, dressed up as an ascetic monk and went to the townships to understand the people's feelings. When he came to Xialu Village, he knew that the villagers lacked firewood, grass and water, and had skin diseases, so he went to the Luxi River in the east of Shangdong Village, tapped the ground with his tin stick, and said in his mouth: "Hot spring water, spew it out, quickly relieve the disaster for the people!"
As soon as he finished reading, a stream of hot spring water gushed out. Soon, the villagers discovered this hot spring and happily carried the hot spring water home to scald food to eat. Use it for bathing, scabies and rheumatic pain on the body, and soon heal.
Since then, every time the Buddha bathing festival, the monks also come here to bathe. The news quickly spread throughout the county, but this angered the tyrants, who colluded with the government to send troops to block the hot springs. A group of officers and soldiers armed with knives and guns came here like wolves and tigers. Before they could gain a foothold, the boiling spring water sprayed on them, so hot that they rolled on the ground, and they died, and they fled for their lives, and they did not dare to come again. Since then, the hot spring has continued to gush out water throughout the year for the benefit of the people.
After Du Fu and Zhang Cambodia heard this, they both said that the local people were blessed.
After learning about the hot springs on the flat ground, Du Fu, Du Wei and Zhang Cambodia walked by the Luxi River. Du Fu was reluctant to look around, but saw that the Longshan Guoen Temple suspended in the ethereal night sky in the distance looked particularly dazzling under the flickering lights, just like the Yuyu Qionglou in the sky, a piece of poetry, extraordinarily Zen and warm, so that Du Fu, who came from afar and was called "poetry saint" and "poetry history", was amazed.
Du Fu, whose name is beautiful, is a native of Xiangyang, and later migrated to Gong County, Henan. Self-named Shaoling Ye Lao, a great realist poet of the Tang Dynasty, and Li Bai are collectively called "Li Du".
Du Fu's influence on classical Chinese poetry is very far-reaching, and he is known as the "Saint of Poetry", and his poems are called "Poetry History". Later generations called it Du Shiji, Du Gong Department, also known as Du Shaoling, Du Caotang.
Du Fu created famous works such as "Spring Hope", "Northern Expedition", "Three Officials" and "Three Farewells". In 759, Du Fu abandoned his official position and entered Sichuan, although he escaped the war and lived a relatively stable life, he still cared about the common people and had national affairs in mind. Although Du Fu is a realist poet, he also has a wild and uninhibited side, and it is not difficult to see Du Fu's heroic spirit from his famous work "Song of the Eight Immortals in Drinking".
The core of Du Fu's thought is the Confucian idea of benevolence, and he has the grand ambition of "to the monarch and the gentleman, and then to make the customs pure".
Du Fu's poems "have a collection of sixty volumes", entitled "Du Gongbu Collection". The achievement of Du Fu's poetry lies first in expanding the scope of expression of poetry. The highest achievement of Du Fu's poetry can be said to be to write this style smoothly and smoothly, without a trace, and if it is written casually, it will make people forget that it is a poetry.
Du Fu is very mature and profound in calligraphy. His calligraphy style is based on the regular line of grass and work, the whole to the intention of the line, appreciating the ancient and majestic, paying attention to the speed, rhythm, gesture, ink method and other contents in the writing, in the Tang Dynasty is a very deep calligrapher. At the same time, his praise for the calligraphers of the Tang Dynasty, and his evaluation of Cao Ba and Zhang Xu were enough to make him famous in the history of calligraphy, and his theory of "calligraphy is expensive, thin and hard" has established Du Fu's important position in the history of calligraphy theory.
His works are known for their brilliant writing, quick thinking, and rich knowledge, and are loved by thousands of readers. He has unique insights into the study of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, especially the study of Buddhism, and is good at bringing the listener step by step into the river of Zen cultural consciousness in his manners and words, and enlightening philosophical thinking.
After many years of absence, Zhang Cambodia was trying to gather with him on the bank of the Luxi River with beautiful scenery and flying aura, who knew that before the words were spoken, a firefly seemed to fly from the direction of Guoen Temple to his eyes and shook for a while, and then flew around his head a few times, and then gently flew down on the row of phoenix tail bamboos by the river. For some reason, suddenly, he pointed to the quiet Luxi River in front of him......
Isn't there a Zen machine in the river? Zhang Cambodia looked at the trend, what a wonderful and unique scene this is! On the mirror-like surface of the river, a bright moon is reflected, and the river is quiet in the bamboo bushes; The sky is vast and cloudless, no wind blows, the water waves are not prosperous, and it is as smooth as a mirror; The water mirror is small, but it incorporates the entire sky......
Moon reflected in the water, cloudless sky...... In this situation, there is a spark-like light flashing out in Zhang Cambodia's heart, and when he is about to burst out, he is seen rubbing his waist with both hands and chanting loudly: "Thousands of rivers have water, thousands of rivers and moons, and thousands of miles are cloudless and thousands of miles of sky." ”
Although Zhang Cambodia's research on Zen culture is still shallow, he clearly felt the awe-inspiring Zen machine hidden in Du Fu's poetic words, which went straight to the depths of people's souls and made Zhang Cambodia have an epiphany.
At this time, in Zhang Cambodia's view, water is water, the moon is the moon, because of the illumination of the moon, there is a moon in the water, and the moon is in the water. But the moon in the water is not the moon, but the illusion of water; The moon is in the water and is the reflection of the water. It's a bit of a sense of right and wrong, right and wrong. As a result, Zhang Cambodia thought of what the "Diamond Sutra" said, in the hearts of tens of millions of people, tens of millions of Buddhas. Ten thousand Buddhas are like thousands of rivers and moons, and ten thousand Buddhas are one Buddha. Seeking Buddha with your heart is like fishing for the moon in water. The heart has nothing to ask for, the heart is like stopping water, the heart Buddha corresponds, this heart is the Buddha.
Although there are many followers of Buddhism, the reasons and purposes for taking refuge in Buddhism are different. Just like "a thousand rivers have water and a thousand rivers and a thousand moons" - there is only one month, but because of the difference in water, it reflects a thousand different reflections. There are many exquisite stories in Zen Buddhism, and the "epiphany" that Zen Buddhism talks about is the best embodiment of Buddhism's desire to return to the Buddha nature in human nature. Those who are not enlightened follow the precepts of Buddhism meticulously, and gain peace of mind in following them; Those who are about to become enlightened gradually understand the essence of Buddhism in the process of following; Those who have had an epiphany have already understood the true meaning of Buddhism, transcendent from things, and no longer confined by rules. There is water in the river, there is a moon in the sky, as long as there is water in a thousand rivers, there will be a moon on a thousand rivers; There are clouds in the sky, and the clouds are the sky, as long as there are no clouds in the sky, then the sky is blue for all the miles.
Zhang Cambodia thought: "Thousands of rivers have water, thousands of rivers and moons", the moon is like Buddha nature, thousands of rivers are like sentient beings, rivers are not big or small, there is water that is the moon; People do not distinguish between high and low, but if they are human, they have Buddha nature. Buddha-nature is in the human heart, omnipresent; Just like the moon shining on the river, everything is reflected. Any sentient being, as long as he has the heart to learn Buddhism, he will have Buddha nature, and any river, as long as there is water, it will have a bright moon. The moonlight is bright, and the Buddha nature is self-sufficient; The sky and the moon shine everywhere, the Buddha nature is omnipresent, and the Tao is omnipresent; "There are clouds in the sky, and there are clouds in the sky, and the sky is above the clouds. As long as there are no clouds in the sky, then the sky will be blue for all miles. Heaven can be seen as the Buddha's mind, and clouds are material desires and afflictions. When the troubles and material desires are gone, the nature of the Buddha's mind will naturally appear.
Looking at the world with "thousands of rivers and thousands of rivers and moons", the world is alive, inclusive and covered, where there are people, there is beauty, where there is beauty, there is goodness, and where there is goodness, there is love. Beauty is in thousands of rivers, goodness is in thousands of rivers and months, and Taoism is in the hearts of thousands of people. When there are no clouds, it is a sunny day, the troubles of material desires are gone, the nature of the Buddha's heart is naturally revealed, and the mirror is naturally restored to light.
Feeling this, a spiritual light flashed in Zhang Cambodia's mind, "Thousands of rivers have water and thousands of rivers and moons", isn't this Du Fu's metaphor for Zen, the best comfort for him?
Zhang Cambodia smiled at Du Fu knowingly. Du Fu's gaze stopped on Zhang Cambodia's face and smiled at him.
This is exactly what it is: silence is better than sound at this time, and the heart is clear.
