Chapter 44: Max's Cupcakes
The roar of the engine of the sports car outside the store woke Zuckerberg from his musings.
He looked up blankly and found that Jamie had left on the table, leaving only the recorder on the table.
Zuckerberg picked up the recorder and checked it out, and found that there was nothing inside.
Gripping the recorder tightly, Zuckerberg was not angry at being played.
Because just now, Jamie did teach him a lesson.
It's like the "chicken soup" that Jamie poured him before leaving.
"It's a waste that your talent isn't used to change the world, but it's a waste to use it as a hacker!"
Just over three hours later, Jamie drove back to New York.
He and Serena have dinner at an agreed steakhouse.
At the dinner table, Jamie tells Serena about the day, including Grace asking him to pretend to be her boyfriend.
Serena was happy that Jamie was able to confess to her about his past with Grace, but at the same time, she couldn't help but feel some worries.
The main thing is that Grace seems to know a lot about her, and she doesn't know anything about Grace.
This made Serena feel very uncertain.
In the middle of dinner, Serena takes the opportunity to go to the bathroom and sends a text message to Rebecca, asking about Grace.
Rebecca is also surprised to learn that Jamie and Grace have known each other for a long time, and she immediately texts Serena to tell her everything she knows about Grace.
In the final text message, Rebecca earnestly warns Serena not to let her guard down on Grace, otherwise it will end up like she did when she lost the cheerleader.
Coming out of the bathroom, Serena turned back into the confident and calm Queen S of the past.
She already knew how to deal with Grace's threat.
After dinner, the two returned to Hampshire House together.
The building has been built for some years, and even if Jamie's penthouse was added last year, it can't change some of the building's old and outdated internal structures, such as the lack of elevators.
Although the building implements a tenant co-management system, there is no need to worry about some strange people of unknown origin mixed in, but when getting on and off the elevator, it is still inevitable that there will be frequent meetings with residents on other floors, and sometimes privacy is not well guaranteed.
Fortunately, the two of them were lucky today, and there was no one in the elevator upstairs.
Seeing that the elevator doors are about to close, Serena puts her arms around Jamie's neck and is about to make out with her boyfriend.
Just then, a loud female voice came from outside the elevator door.
"I'm so sorry, please wait a minute!"
As he spoke, a hand reached into the elevator and blocked the elevator door that was about to close.
Jamie and Serena could only awkwardly separate and watch as a somewhat overly plump brown-haired woman pushed a double stroller in her left hand and a large bag of shopping bags in her right hand, squeezing into the elevator with difficulty.
Out of politeness, Jamie and Serena volunteered to stand in the corner of the elevator and get out of the way.
However, just as Serena was about to press the elevator door button, the brown-haired woman stopped her.
"Excuse me, please wait a little longer, my employer hasn't come in yet."
With the click of high heels, a brightly dressed young woman with a donkey handbag in her left hand and a mobile phone in her right hand walked into the elevator.
Upon entering, she waved warmly to Serena and Jamie.
"Hi, I'm Piki, a resident on the 17th floor."
Serena and Jamie politely return the salute, but don't say which floor they live on.
Pidge hadn't intended to continue chatting with the two of them, but just as the elevator doors closed, she stumbled upon a glimpse of the light numbers on the floor buttons.
It's 37 floors!
Pizzy immediately put her phone in her handbag and covered her mouth in surprise.
"You're the occupants of that penthouse? My husband said that the person who bought this apartment was a writer who was not very well-known, and God knows where he got so much money to buy this house, and is it so profitable to be a writer now? ”
It was only when she said this that Piqi realized that something was inappropriate.
Because the unknown writer in her mouth is in the same elevator with her at the moment.
The chubby brown-haired female nanny next to her couldn't stand it anymore, and whispered in Piqi's ear:
"Jamie Dutton, he's the author of 'Percy Jackson,' and now this book is selling super well, don't ask why, I just know anyway."
Piggy immediately handed his hand to Jamie.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Max said your book is selling well, and even though I haven't read it, I'm honored to know you."
If it was normal and polite, Jamie should have replied "Me too" at this time.
But this Piggie's style is a bit speechless, so Jamie just replied perfunctorily "yes", and didn't mean to shake hands with the other party.
Instead, it was Pizzy who mentioned the name of the chubby brown-haired female nanny, Max, which made Jamie suddenly think of something.
No wonder the other party felt a little familiar when he first came in.
Serena didn't want to make the scene too embarrassing, and took the initiative to shake Piki's hand for her boyfriend.
Just as the hands were about to part, Piqi suddenly squeezed Serena's hand hard.
"Why do I think you're so familiar, like I've seen it in a fashion magazine or newspaper, are you a model or a star?"
Serena shook her head in denial.
Pizzie still wouldn't let go, as she insisted that she must have seen Serena's picture somewhere.
For this reason, she also specifically asked Max, the female nanny next to her.
"It's a gossip queen, a web blog that specializes in breaking the scandal of those sons-in-law and rich girls in Constance in Constance, the top high school on the Upper East Side."
Pidge nodded vigorously.
That's right, it's that blog.
Before going out today, she had discussed the matter with Max because Max asked her if she knew Caroline Channing.
"So you and Carolyn Channing went to the same high school? God, you weren't cheated out of money by her father, were you? ”
Serena's hand was still tightly held by Piqi, and she couldn't pull it back when she wanted to, so she could only shake her head in embarrassment.
Pizzy finally let go and made a long sigh of relief against her chest.
"Thankfully, I wasn't scammed, but I was almost scared to death, can you imagine what it's like to have no money? I mean so poor that I don't even have any money. ”
Watching Pizzy say such nonsense as a matter of course, not to mention Serena and Jamie felt embarrassed and speechless, even Pizzie's nanny Max was so embarrassed that ten toes were on the ground.
However, Pizzy was unaware of this, and continued to say to herself:
"You should have heard that after her father was arrested for bankruptcy, Caroline Channing's house was seized by the bank, and in order to find a place to live, she knocked on the doors of six friends in a row, but they all pretended not to be at home, and no one opened the door for her, which is really pitiful!"
At this time, the elevator clanged and stopped on the 17th floor.
Serena and Jamie both breathed a sigh of relief.
This Piqi is finally leaving.
However, what neither of them expected was that Pizzy actually asked Max to bring the two children home with the bunch of clothes she bought today, and she wanted to go up to the top floor with Jamie and Serena to visit.
Faced with such an excessive request, Jamie, of course, unceremoniously refused.
The reason is also very simple, inconvenient!
Piki wasn't upset by Jamie's rejection, of course, it was possible that she had been rejected like this many times and was used to it.
She didn't insist on going upstairs anymore, but she still wouldn't leave the elevator.
"Max, can you bring that box of cupcakes you brought today? I would like to give it to two lovely neighbors I have just knew. ”
Max had no choice but to run back to Pidge's house and bring the box of cakes, which Piqi handed to Serena herself.
"It's made by Max himself, and it tastes great, I hope you enjoy it."
Serena took the cake box, but Pizzy wouldn't let go.
Eventually, Max, who was waiting impatiently at the elevator door, coughed, and Pizzie reluctantly let go of her hand.
"When you have time, you are welcome to come to my house."
The elevator doors began to close, and Pidge was still waving inside.
When the elevator doors finally closed, Serena and Jamie were both relieved.
This Pizzy is so weird, it's just like her name.
Neither Jamie nor Serena had ever heard anyone use the English word peach as their name, anyway.
Back at the penthouse, Serena casually put the cake box on the table, ready to change clothes first.
Jamie curiously opens the box and finds that it contains 8 cupcakes, a row of red velvet and a row of chocolates.
He picked one out of the chocolate and took a bite of it.
It tastes really good!
By the time Serena came out with a change of clothes, Jamie had already eaten three cakes.
On Jamie's strong recommendation, Serena took a bite of the red velvet cake.
The taste is surprisingly good!
And it tastes different from the cakes made by celebrity chefs in various high-end restaurants that she has eaten before.
Just as Serena was shocked by this, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Jamie walked over and glanced through the door mirror.
Opening the door, Max stood in the doorway.
"Hey, my work at Piqi's house has ended, and I came up to apologize to you for Piqi, she is actually not bad, but she doesn't think much about other people's feelings many times."
Jamie and Serena, who were standing behind him, looked at each other, and they both shook their heads in unison to indicate that it was okay.
As Serena was about to invite Max in for a while, Max shook her head and said that she was leaving, and that she had to go to the restaurant to take another job.
Before leaving, Max asked how the cupcakes tasted.
Serena gave a high rating, which made Max happy.
When Jamie closed the door, Max, who was standing at the entrance of the elevator, changed into a sigh.
She came up this time to tell Jamie and Serena something about Caroline, but she gave up when the words came to her lips.
Caroline probably wouldn't want people she knew before to know where she was going.
So forget it!
With this in mind, Max strode into the elevator.
