Chapter 4: The Crossed-Out Diary
Although she had been mentally prepared, Lily still couldn't hide the depression on her face after hearing the bell.
Something really went wrong with John's team, if he didn't look for it......
Lily stopped her thoughts, patted herself lightly on the cheek, put the brown bookmarked line from John's journal on the table to the page she had just read, closed the journal, turned off the lamp, and got up with one hand to leave John's room.
She was going to take the diary back to her room to read it slowly, although it probably made her angry based on the experience she had just read.
But since going out to find John is a sure thing, Lily needs to be well prepared, and the only thing that can't be sure is how many things John has written that will come in handy.
There is one more thing, the day after tomorrow is my birthday, and it is also my 15th birthday coming-of-age ceremony.
The orphanage of St. Reims, located in the capital of the British Empire, in Dunlun, stipulates that the children's coming-of-age ceremony is on the day they turn 15.
Children who have reached this age who have not yet been adopted by a family or taken away by some institution for a gift, will need to pack their belongings, leave the orphanage, and find their first job to support themselves under the British Empire's well-established child laws and welfare benefits for orphans.
Now there are no teachers or adults in the orphanage, the fog just surrounded the orphanage for two or three months, the teachers in the orphanage because of the long-term lack of daylight and the panic of not being able to contact the outside world, they have chosen their own ways to escape, so they left, scattered, even the director of the orphanage fled, but in the end no one came back.
The orphanage became a veritable orphanage.
Lily had been strongly opposed by Xiu in the basement just now, against taking risks like John, and she, Aiden and himself had witnessed a very terrible scene:
In the early hours of his birthday, John was suddenly wiped away inch by inch as if he were being wiped off inch by inch by an invisible hand holding a huge eraser, and the process was extremely fast, taking only 2.4 seconds.
Although John reappeared in front of several people later, the horror was indescribable, as Lily had seen in a psychology book, the fear came from the unknown.
A few fourteen or fifteen children watched their partners suddenly "wiped away", and the door of the room became untwistable and opened, even shouting was useless, no one could hear them......
It was really scary enough.
The weirdest thing is that Aiden's watch that day, as well as the clock in John's room, all stopped at one time-
0:24:24 seconds!
It's hard not to make them guess that John's disappearance has something to do with the fog that has shrouded the world outside.
Now that Lily is pinning her hopes on this unknown fear, Xiu will certainly wonder if Lily is crazy.
It's just that the latter people also speculated and thought about it, thinking that if it was really the influence or change brought about by the fog, then it was possible that every child who reached the age of 15 on the day of the coming-of-age ceremony would be "wiped away" once.
As for what happened to John after he was "erased", John himself was very vague, saying only that he barely remembered.
Now that the description of "that world" appeared in his notes, Lily had reason to suspect that John was lying, and that he actually remembered what he had been through.
So why did John lie?
Forget it, since I can't get an answer, I don't want to think about it for now, go get something to eat first, and then go back to my room and take a closer look at John's diary.
I didn't see Xiu in the cafeteria, but Lily didn't have that much energy to care about it for the time being, she believed that Xiu actually understood, but it took time to accept it, so she hastily ate dinner, and after finding Ander to explain a few words, she hurried back to her room.
Spreading the journal out on her desk again, and expertly turning on the lamp, Lily took out another small notebook, ready to jot down the important parts and some of her own thoughts.
August 28 rain + fog
After borrowing Aiden's "Oxford English-Chinese Bilingual Dictionary", I finally figured out what those two square words that often haunted my dreams wereโ
midnight
Those are those two words, but what do they mean? Just looking at the dictionary explanation of each word, I couldn't find a good enough definition for me to understand.
Can't this Oxford dictionary have a few more words?
Seeing this, Lily imitated John's writing in her notebook, wrote the word "midnight" a little crookedly in her small notebook, and then put a question mark at the back.
John said these two words haunted his dreams...... But he said that he only slept 2-3 hours a night, would this also be a dream?
No wonder some children told me that when they woke up at night to go to the toilet, they would see a dark shadow scurrying around the orphanage......
I think the "murderer" is John.
Shaking her head helplessly, Lily turned the next page, but suddenly reached out and covered her mouth.
I saw that this page of John's diary was crossed out line by line by thick black ink that was a finger's width wide, and even the blank area without writing was not spared, so the whole page was pitch black.
"This ......" Lily finally came to her senses, looking at the diary in front of her a little confused.
Was this John's own row? Why did he do it?
It was dark all night, and only the date on the top row could barely be seen - September 1st rain
"September 1...... September 1...... Is anything happening? Lily couldn't remember, but in other words, nothing major happened.
After thinking about it, Lily got up and left the room, went to the computer area on the third floor, took a booklet from a small desk drawer next to a computer, and returned to the room again.
On the way, a few children playing on the third floor greeted her, and she only responded with a shallow smile, without stopping for more, which made those children uncomfortable, and Sister Lily would stop and say a few words to them in the past.
Lily didn't care about any of this, just walked back to her desk, spread out the book in her hand, and took a quick look.
"September 1...... September 1...... Pregnant! "Lily found what she was looking for.
On August 29th, John's team set off for the "Sift Patrol", travelers: John, Campos, Hodges, Tran, Camille, Watson.
Return on the afternoon of September 1.
This booklet is a record of the orphanage staff going out, it is the tradition of the orphanage, although the orphanage is no longer full of adults, but Aiden still insists on recording this.
So, what did John experience when he went out to "screen and patrol"?
