Chapter 461: The Legend of Emperor Shennong's Yan

Shennong was born

After Nuwa mended the sky, I don't know how long it took, in a stone cave in Lieshan (there is also a theory that Shennong's clan was born in Jiang Shui, and Jiang Shui is in the territory of present-day Baoji, which is why there is a dispute over whether Emperor Yan and Shennong's clan are one person, it should be confused when deifying them, Mr. Yuan Ke listed him as one person; and then the "Book of Rites" also called Shennong as Lieshan's clan, and Gai Du was caused by his many names), a child was born.

Strange to say, when he was born, nine wells naturally appeared around the cave, and the water in these nine wells was connected to each other, and if you took the water from one of them, the other eight would fluctuate. This child was born out of phase, his body was transparent, his internal organs were clearly visible, he had two horns on his head, and he had a bull head and a human body. The people who saw it said that this was the god of heaven, and he brought the Nine Eyes Well. So when he grew up, everyone elected him as the leader of the tribe, because they lived in the hot south, so they called themselves the Yan tribe and called him the Yan Emperor.

Once Emperor Yan saw a red bird holding a string of things like seeds, Emperor Yan saw the bird spit it out, Emperor Yan picked it up, the bird flew around him three times, and then chirped and flew away. Emperor Yan thought that this was a food seed sent by the Red Bird sent by the Emperor of Heaven, so he buried the seed in the soil. He also made plows out of wood, taught people to loosen the soil, and dug wells to irrigate the seedlings. In the autumn of this year, a large field of grass seedlings matured. How happy the people are! Everyone is grateful for Emperor Yan's merits and calls Emperor Yan Shennong. In this way, the surrounding tribes also called the Yandi tribe the Shennong tribe, and called him the Shennong clan, that is, the leader of the agricultural tribe.

There are four versions of the legend of Shennong, and the first version says this: In ancient times, people had nothing to eat, and lived by picking grass seeds, picking wild fruits, and hunting birds and beasts. Sometimes I eat something I shouldn't eat, get poisoned, and get poisoned to death when it's serious. When people get sick, they don't know how to prescribe the right medicine, they are all stiff, and if they get through it, they will just get through, and if they can't get through, they will die. Emperor Shennong was very worried about this, and was determined to taste a hundred herbs, determine the medicinal properties, and eliminate disasters and diseases for everyone. Once, Shennong's daughter, Princess Hua Rui, fell ill. Tea does not think, do not want to eat, uncomfortable, bloated like a drum, how to regulate the treatment is not light, Shennong is very difficult, think about it, grabbed some grass roots, bark, wild fruits, stone noodles, counted, a total of twelve flavors, beckoned the princess of the stamen to eat, he was busy with the work, and left. Princess Blossom took the medicine, and her stomach hurt like a knife. After a while, a baby bird was born, which frightened people. It's said that it's a monster, and I quickly got it out and pulled it out. Who knew that this little bird was human, and when he saw that his family was annoyed with him, he flew to the field to find Shennong.

Shennong was dozing under the tree, and suddenly heard: "Grandpa, Grandpa!" I thought it was annoying, so I waved my arm: "Wow-" and threw it away. After a while, the little bird flew back into the tree, and cried out, "Grandpa!" Shennong felt strange, picked up a piece of earth, threw it at the tree, and scared it away. Not long after he was older, the little bird returned to the tree and cried again: "Grandpa, twitter, grandpa, twitter!" Shennong was guilty of thinking, and when he understood, he raised his left arm and said, "If you are my nephew, it will fall on my hand and neck!" The little bird really fluttered down and landed on Shennong's left hand and neck. Shennong looked at the little bird carefully, it was green and transparent, and even the intestines in the stomach could be seen clearly. As soon as Shennong came out of his mouth, the little bird took the measure and swallowed Xing'er. Hey, I can see this saliva clearly when I swallow it in my stomach. Shennong was overjoyed. Shennong carried this delicate bird home, and when the family saw it, they were so frightened that they retreated again and again, saying: "It's a quick trigger, monster, it's a quick ......" Shennong laughed and said: "This is not a monster, it's a baby! Just call it a flower stamen bird!" Shennong divided the twelve flavors of the medicine that Princess Hua Rui had eaten and boiled it in a pot. Boil it, feed the bird, feed it, and watch it while feeding, and see where the medicine goes to the bird's belly, and what changes there are. Taste it again with your own mouth, and experience what this medicine tastes like in your stomach. After feeding the twelve flavor medicines, I tasted it properly, and walked a total of three yin, three yang, and twelve meridians.

Shennong carried this bird up the mountain, drilled into the old forest, picked all kinds of grass roots, bark, seeds, and fruits, caught all kinds of birds, animals, fish, turtles, shrimps and insects, dug all kinds of stones and minerals, fed the same birds, and tasted the same with his own mouth. Observe and experience which sutra they go through in their bodies, what their nature is, and what diseases they cure. But all of them are only circled in the twelve meridians, and they can't be exceeded. Over time, Shennong formulated the twelve meridians of the human body and the "Materia Medica". Shennong thought about it, and was not at ease, so he held the bird in his hand to continue to verify, he came to Taihang Mountain, traveled for nine hundred and eighty-one days, came to the small north top (Shennong Altar), caught the whole crown insect and fed the bird, but did not expect that the insect was too poisonous, and the bird's intestines were broken and died. Shennong really regretted it, was extremely sad, and cried loudly. After crying, he chose good wood, carved a bird, and took it with him. Later, Shennong died of a broken intestine grass in the Baicao Depression on both sides of the small north top. On the top of the mountain in the northwest of Baicaowa, there is also a stone like a person bending over and hugging his belly, which is said to have been changed by Shennong.

In order to commemorate Shennong's creation of traditional Chinese medicine and the preparation of materia medica, people renamed Xiaobeiding as Shennong Altar and built Shennong Temple on Shennong Altar. There is a statue of Shennong in the temple, holding the stamen bird in his left hand, and holding the medicine in his right hand and sending it to his mouth. Every day, many people watch the scenery of Shennong Altar and pay homage to the statue of Shennong.

Version two

In ancient times, grains and weeds grew together, medicine and flowers bloomed together, and no one could tell which grains could be eaten and which herbs could cure diseases. The people of Li live by hunting, and the birds in the sky are getting fewer and fewer, and the animals in the ground are getting thinner and thinner, so people have to go hungry. Whoever wants to get sores and cause diseases, there is no medical treatment and no medicine, and if he does not die, he will shed his skin! The suffering of the common people is in Shennong's eyes and painful in his heart. How to feed the people, how to heal the people?

Shennong pondered for three days and three nights, and finally came up with a solution. On the fourth day, he took a group of subjects and set out from his hometown of Lishan in Suizhou and walked to the northwest mountains. They walked and walked, and their legs were swollen and their feet were calloused, but they kept walking, and they walked for seven hundred and forty-nine days, and they came to one place. I saw that the mountains were one peak after another, the canyons were one after another, the mountains were full of strange flowers and plants, and the fragrance was smelled from afar.

Shennong and the others were walking forward, when suddenly a group of wolves, insects, tigers and leopards came out of the canyon and surrounded them. Shennong immediately asked his subjects to wield their whips and shoot at the beasts. They beat away a group, and then they came up again, and they fought for seven days and seven nights before they drove all the beasts away. Those tigers, leopards, and pythons were scarred by the divine whip, and later turned into markings on their skin. At this time, the subjects said that this place was too sinister and persuaded Shennong to go back. Shennong shook his head and said, "I can't go back! The people of Li are hungry and have no food, and if they are sick and have no medical treatment, how can we go back!"

As he spoke, he led the way into the canyon to the foot of a vast mountain. This mountain is half cut into the clouds, and on all sides is a knife-cut cliff, and there is a waterfall hanging on the cliff, and there is moss, and the water is slippery, and it seems that there is no ladder to the sky. The subjects advised him to forget it again, and to go back as soon as possible. Shennong shook his head: "I can't go back! The people of Li are hungry and have no food, and they are sick and have no medical treatment, how can we go back!"

He stood on a small rocky mountain, facing the high mountain, looking up, looking down, left and right, making up his mind and thinking of a way. Later, people called the small mountain where he stood "Wangnong Pavilion". Then he saw several golden monkeys, crawling along the ancient vines hanging high and the rotten trees lying on the cliffside. He immediately called his subjects and told them to cut wooden poles, cut rattans, and build a frame against the mountain cliff, and build a layer a day, from spring to summer, from autumn to winter, no matter whether it was windy, rainy, snowy, or frozen, he never stopped working. It took a whole year and 360 floors to reach the top of the mountain. Legend has it that the scaffolding used by people to build buildings later was to learn from Shennong's method.

Shennong took his subjects to climb the wooden frame and went to the top of the mountain. Shennong liked it very much, he told his subjects to guard against wolves, insects, tigers and leopards, and he personally picked flowers and plants and put them in his mouth to taste. In order to taste herbs here, find food and medicine for the common people, Shennong asked his subjects to plant a few rows of fir trees on the mountain, as a city wall to prevent wild beasts, and build thatched huts to live in the wall. Later, people called the place where Shennong lived "Mucheng". During the day, he led his subjects to the mountains to taste the herbs, and at night, he asked his subjects to build a bonfire, and he wrote down them in detail by the light of the fire: which grasses were bitter, which were hot, which were cold, which were sufficient for hunger, and which were for healing.

Once, he put a piece of grass in his mouth and tasted it, and in an instant the world spun around and fell headlong. The subjects hurriedly helped him to sit up, he knew that he had been poisoned, but he could no longer speak, so he had to use his last strength to point to a bright red Ganoderma lucidum grass in front of him, and then to his mouth. The subjects hurriedly put the red lingzhi in their mouths to chew and feed it to him. Shennong ate Ganoderma lucidum grass, the poison gas was dissolved, his head was not dizzy, and he could speak. Since then, people have said that Ganoderma lucidum grass can bring the dead back to life.

The subjects were worried that it would be too dangerous for him to taste the grass like this, and they advised him to go down the mountain and go back.

He shook his head again and said, "We can't go back!" How can we go back if the people are hungry and have no food or medical treatment for their illnesses! After tasting a mountain of flowers and plants, he went to another mountain to taste them, and climbed them up by using wooden poles to build a frame. I have been tasting it for 7749 days, and I have walked all over the mountains and mountains here.
