Chapter 460: Shennongjia is the Ancient Bear Mountain

The earliest name of Shennongjia was called "Bear Mountain". "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" clouds: "One hundred and fifty miles to the east, it is called Bear Mountain." There is a cave, a bear's cave, and there are people and gods who are constantly out of the world, and the summer starts and the winter closes...... Xiongshan, Emperor also" (from Wang Nian Sun School). Some scholars believe that the "Bear Mountain" mentioned in the "Classic of Mountains and Seas" is now Shennongjia in terms of name, place and direction (see the 1986 edition of "New Exploration" by the Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences Press).

Interestingly, contemporary scientists believe that the bears found in Shennongjia are not only very numerous, but also the most diverse, worthy of China's "bear kingdom", in ancient times, there were giant bears living here for a long time, and their origin is unknown. ”。 Among them, the "god man" is the "mountain ghost" in Qu Yuan's poem "Mountain Ghost", that is, the tall "wild man" of Shennongjia who is causing a sensation all over the world. "Xiongshan, Emperor Ye", it is said that Shennongjia is the holy land of ancient emperors, and this emperor should refer to the Yan Emperor Shennong's family, and he is also the ancestor of the Miao people.

Shennongjia has a mountain with ancient trees towering to the sky and green shade, and it is said that the ancient Laojun had picked herbs here and refined the elixir. One day, when Lao Jun asked Shennong how to refine the elixir, Shennong told him: It is too hard for the people to use wooden plows and stone knives to cultivate grains, and it would be nice if there were iron tools. In this way, Lao Jun became the ancestor of the blacksmith, and to this day he is still worshiped by the people as the ancestor. In order to be grateful and commemorate Laojun, the local people called the mountain where he collected medicine and made iron and agricultural tools "Laojun Mountain", and praised Laojun's noble character and merits in collecting medicine for the people and making iron and agricultural tools through "The Legend of Laojun Mountain".

In ancient times, Taishang Laojun once came to Shennongjia from the Heavenly Palace to refine the elixir of immortality, and built a metallurgical furnace with Yandi Shennong's clan to smelt steel and make agricultural tools for the benefit of the people. Later, people built the Laojun Temple (Laojun Temple) here, dedicated to the statue of Taishang Laojun and the statue of Shennong, this mountain is called Laojun Mountain, and the mountain that is higher than Laojun Mountain is called Shennong Mountain. This incident is enough to show that in the minds of the people, Shennong's contribution is the greatest, and its prestige is the highest, far exceeding that of the heavenly immortals. Unfortunately, these temples and temples were destroyed in modern times.

Shennongjia has two peaks of the same size, the same height and the same beauty, which are called "sister peaks". The origin of this name is: according to legend, the two princesses of Shennong saw that their father collected medicine for the people and traveled in the deep mountains and dense forests all year round, suffering from wind and rain, especially the threat of poisonous plague, and their hearts were very uneasy, so they collected the essence of the world and compiled a hat for their father that was both beautiful, and could resist wind and rain and avoid poison. Later, people regarded the two peaks that resembled twin sisters as the incarnation of the two princesses of Shennong, and called them "sister peaks".

There is a large lake called "Dajiu Lake". According to legend, in ancient times, the water of this lake was very clear, like a mirror embedded in the mountains and forests, and the fairies in the sky often came to bathe in the lake. Later, the lake was overrun by nine evil dragons, who fought with each other and made the lake muddy and smelly, and from then on, the fairies no longer came down to bathe, and the people in the vicinity were not at peace. Not long after, a young man with excellent martial arts, with the help of Shennong and the headless monster Xingtian, killed nine evil dragons, restored the lake to its original state, and the people regained peace. In order to thank them and commemorate them, the local people called this lake "Dajiu Lake". In the legend, the nine evil dragons that were killed back then have become today's "Nine Flame Mountain", the sword that slayed the dragon has become the current "Shijian Peak", and the military general Xingtian has become a strange stone that looks like a human and inhuman.

The legend of the fir trees, arrow bamboo forests, and rhododendrons in Shennongjia is even more touching. When people climb the "Shennong Peak", which is known as the "first peak in Central China", a clear and coordinated three-layer scenery is displayed at the feet: the lowest layer is a dense emerald green arrow bamboo forest, the second layer above it is a tall and towering fir forest with lush foliage, and the top third layer is the alpine rhododendron. If it is the season when the azaleas are in full bloom, people will naturally feel as if they are immersed in a sea of green, a world of flowers. Legend has it that in ancient times, there was a girl named Du Juan in a mountain village in Shennongjia, who was handsome, cute, and intelligent, and capable; and there was a handsome young man named Fir in the same village, who was a famous hunter, and the two of them loved each other and were inseparable. Unexpectedly, this matter was known to the mountain tyrant Ma Huang, and he suddenly became malicious, wanting to occupy the cuckoo as his little lady, and capture the fir as his slave, so he led a group of evil slaves to arrest them. When the cuckoo and fir heard the news, they fled together to the deep mountains and dense forests. Unfortunately, they were eventually caught up by the Shanba gang, and both of them were hit by the poisonous arrows of the Emperor Ma and died.

At this time, Shennong, who was collecting medicine, happened to come here, and was very angry when he saw this, so he scattered a handful of bamboo seeds, and in an instant, a dense forest of arrows and bamboos grew, extending into the distance, and soon surrounded the mountain tyrant and his gang tightly, until they all starved to death and froze to death. At the same time, with sympathy, Shennong spat out a fairy breath on a couple who were killed, and suddenly, the man became a tall and straight fir tree, and the woman became a bright and colorful rhododendron. Since then, there have been arrow bamboo, fir trees growing on Shennongjia Mountain, blooming beautiful rhododendrons, rhododendrons and fir have formed lifelong companions, living together forever, forever loving each other. As for the Emperor Ma, because it was so bad, he finally became a nasty pest that kept crawling in the bamboo forest and sucking human blood to sustain his life - the drought locust.

Obviously, this is an ancient and moving folklore, which praises pure love, and praises Shennong's love for the common people and the power of evil thoughts. At the same time, it reflects the unfortunate experience and inner grief of the people of Shennongjia, and indicts the ferocity and crime of the representative of the reactionary forces, Shanba, with blood and tears.

It can be seen that although the content of many legends and stories of Shennongjia focuses on natural forms such as mountains, peaks, caves, lakes, trees, bamboos, and flowers, and explains the origin of their names and the reasons for their formation, Shennong appears among them, and the content is related to Shennong. Therefore, it also enriches the plot, deepens the connotation, improves the ideology, and enhances the vividness. This is precisely the reason why they can be loved by the masses of the people and can be widely circulated for a long time. As for directly telling the legends and stories of Shennong, there are more in the Shennongjia area, and its content is also richer. For example, "The Legend of Shennong Tasting Herbs to Cure the People", "The Legend of Shennong Teaching the People to Farm the Land", etc., will not be detailed here. About Shennong, there are records in some ancient books, such as Shennong is Emperor Yan, and the society he governs is "men plough and eat, women weave and wear, criminal government does not need to rule, and a soldier can not afford to be a king" ("Shang Jun Shu"). His most outstanding contributions are "teaching the world to cultivate grains and eat them", "tasting plants and trees, curing diseases with medicine, and saving the lives of heavenly injuries" (Taiping Yulan). Some books also say that Shennong will "make a harp", "make a seer" and so on. It can be seen that Shennong is a historical figure with achievements and influence. And in folklore, he is an artistic figure that is admired, praised and created by the people. As a legend, it is accompanied by the long river of history, through the vast space and the emotional world of people from generation to generation, oral way has been passed down to the present, and will continue to be passed on, vividly and interestingly expressing the admiration and remembrance of Shennong from generation to generation and the resulting pride as a descendant of Yan and Huang.

The mysterious Shennongjia is famous for its rock walls such as cutting, eagle rocks rising, waterfalls hanging rocks, cloud mountainside earnings, vast forests and seas, and vines like nets. Towering forests of ancient trees form a sea of green. From September to April, it is the season of snow and ice, and the snow covers this mysterious land.

The primeval forest of Shennongjia is as high as more than 40 meters, covering the sky and the sun, such as the jade pillar of the blue sky, straight into the sky, all over Shennongjia. The pineapple vines in the forest are densely hung among the branches, and the silver whiskers are fluttering, decorating the entire primeval forest with mysterious and unpredictable. Below the main peak of Shennongjia, there is an endless alpine arrow bamboo, a piece of golden, setting off the bare rocks on the summit, like a series of broken wall ruins, looming. In spring, the colorful rhododendrons bloom all over the mountain, and in winter, the snow flies in the wind, and the plum blossoms in the wind and snow, exuding a fragrance. The Shennongjia Forest Area is truly a holy place, where more than 2,000 species of plants grow and more than 500 species of wild animals gather.

The majestic peaks and valleys, the mysterious color, attract people to explore. Shennongjia Mountain is huge, the mountains are majestic, the terrain is towering, and there are a large number of high mountains with great characteristics. Shennongjia is not only famous for the majestic mountains, but also for the beauty of the valley vertical and horizontal, thousands of canyons are hung high on colorful screens, clear water flows, and people swim in the middle of the gallery. The valley landform of Shennongjia is various, there are long and narrow types, such as the 15-kilometer-long Hongping Gallery, which integrates three waterfalls, four bridges, five pools, six caves, seven towers, eight villages and thirty-six peaks; They are all ghostly chiseled, the heavenly ingenuity is a collection of magical and dangerous in one place, each has a mood but hugs a group, contrasts with each other, climbs in the mountains of Shennongjia, explores between the valleys of Shennongjia, the unpredictable natural landscape all gives people a sense of mystery, the mysterious tourist landscape is summed up in three: one is the relatively well-preserved primeval forest community, the primitive natural features and ancient and rare animal and plant species give people a sense of mystery. In the primeval forest, the ancient trees in the forest are towering, intertwined, the vines linger, and the thick moss is paved. Coupled with the singing of beasts and birds, it is more profound and ancient, and in summer you come here for sightseeing and lie under the soft meadow, look up at the blue sky and white clouds, and listen to the bursts of forest waves, which has a special interest. The second is that there are indeed many difficult scientific mysteries in Shennongjia, such as the mystery of the "wild man", the mystery of albino animals, the mystery of alpine tides and midsummer ice caves, the mystery of the donkey-headed wolf, and so on.
