Chapter 43 The Steppes of Etobae

After walking out of the Moraritair Desert with the caravan, he walked for another two days, then bid farewell to the caravan and walked alone to the northeast of the Etobae steppe.

The steppe was the westernmost grassland under the rule of the steppe king Chijinbo Khan, one of the eight kings of the Xurui Dynasty, and it would be the first stop for Amgan to spread Buddhism, and then he would travel to spread Buddhism among the many tribes of the steppe under the rule of the steppe king Chijinbo Bushketu.

Amugan walked into the Etobaa grassland, first to the Nawu Lao Division, and the first grassland man he saw was a lame man shepherding sheep.

The lame shepherd regarded Amogam as a sheep seller, and he praised him as the fattest of the old men.

Amugan looked at the two dozen sheep grazing on the slope and smiled and said that he was going to the heart of the tribe.

The lame shepherd thought that he did not have a crush on his sheep, but he enthusiastically brought him to his tent.

Entering the tent, Amogan took off his coat and hat, revealing the monk's attire.

The lame shepherd looked at Amugan in astonishment.

Amogan revealed his identity.

The lame shepherd said, "I have heard from the tribe that the Xurui dynasty in the south practiced Buddhism. Our herdsmen in the Na Wu Lao tribe all believe in shamanic gods, and we often worship several surrounding mountain gods, which are the gods who live in the world. ”

Amugan asked, "Donor, have you never been a monk from the old man's department?"

"I've heard of a few monks, but they've always been with chiefs and patriarchs, as well as the high officials of the army. Now there may be only one monk left, living in the chief's house. Said the lame shepherd.

That night, Amogan stayed in a tent in the lame shepherd's house.

In the middle of the night, the barking of dogs woke everyone in the tent.

Amugan and the lame shepherd came out of their tents, and by the faint light of the stars and moon, they saw several black shadows like dogs flying into the sheepfold.

"There is a wolf——! "The lame shepherd cried.

Amogan quickly jumped into the sheepfold, came to the wolves who were biting the sheep, and slapped them on the back of the neck.

A total of ten wolves jumped into the sheepfold, and in the blink of an eye, they were knocked unconscious by Amugan and could not get up.

Six of the ten wolves are strong wolves, and four small wolves are all from the same wolf family.

With the strength of a lame shepherd, he could only watch as ten wolves matured and ate his sheep, or he would be bitten to death.

One of the lame shepherd's sheep was bitten to death, two were seriously injured, and several were slightly injured.

Amogan saved the lame shepherd's sheep from great losses to his family, and the lame shepherd knelt down for Amogan when he saw his sheep.

Amogam lifted up the lame shepherd.

The lame shepherd wept and said, "Great benefactor, I was born blind in one eye and unable to see far in the other. When I was five years old, I fell down a hill in an accident and broke my leg, without any treatment, I lay down for a long time, and when I could walk, I found that my leg was lame. Six of us brothers and sisters got married and left the house, leaving only me, a person with eye and leg disabilities, to be cared for by my elderly parents. When I was three or five years old, someone in the clan introduced me to a mute woman in her forties, who had died a year earlier with two children. My parents didn't tell me, so they let the old, ugly, five-year-old widow come to my house. I was very aggrieved, and I told my parents that I didn't want to get married in my life. In the end, I couldn't resist my parents, so I married the widow. The woman was mute, but she was strong and a good laborer, and she did all the work of the house by herself. The people in the clan laughed at me, and some of the children shouted at my dumb daughter-in-law when they saw me. I couldn't stand it anymore and came to the edge of the tribe. My parents knew that I was wronged, so they gave me more than a dozen sheep at home, and then went to my siblings' houses to ask for ten sheep, and they also gave them to me. Our tribe is outnumbered and has a large army, and the wolves never attack the shepherds' cattle and sheep. I saw that the grass in this area was growing very well, so I made my home here. In the first few days, a wolf came to steal the sheep, and I screamed and screamed to scare the wolf away, and I thought it was a wolf passing by occasionally, so I didn't pay attention to it. Today, great benefactor! If you hadn't defeated those ten wolves, my sheep would have died, and the sheep would have been the life of our shepherds! If you saved this group of sheep, you would have saved the lives of our family! If the wolves had eaten up my sheep today, our family of four would have to die!"

The Buddha said that there are three sufferings, eight sufferings, and immeasurable sufferings in the Three Realms: birth, old age, sickness, death, love, hatred, and parting, suffering in the midst of a hundred thousand desires that cannot be realized, inferiority, suspicion, jealousy, anxiety, anxiety, anxiety, depression, depression, humiliation, and all kinds of emotions gnaw at the small sufferings in the heart, and the Buddha's mission is to relieve the world of these sufferings. ”

The lame shepherd asked, "Can the Buddha relieve the suffering of the world?

Amukan said, "A Buddha is not a god, but a human being, but a Buddha is a person who has realized the root cause of suffering and is able to completely free himself from suffering and suffering. Those who can do this will become Buddhas. ”

The lame shepherd said, "Are you a Buddha?"

Amugan said, "I am the messenger of the Buddha, and I have come to the grassland to propagate the Dharma. ”

The lame shepherd said, "I believe in the power of the Dharma you are talking about, and if you don't dislike me as a disabled person, I'm willing to be your disciple." ”

The lame shepherd heeded Amgan's advice and returned to his clan with his family, to his parents, to find relief from the source of his suffering.

The lame shepherd was no longer afraid of suffering, and Amugan told him that enduring hardships was to cultivate the Buddha's cloth and perform good karma, and that if he endured more hardships, he would be able to avoid the evil paths of hell, hungry ghosts, and animals in the next life.

Amugan followed the lame shepherd to his Na Wu Lao tribe, which was the most populous and powerful of the several tribes of the Etuobae steppe.

Amugan began his missionary life in the Na Wu Lao Division, and when he came out of one tent, he immediately walked to another. The tents where the herdsmen live are scattered, and Amugan bathes in the autumn breeze every day between sunrise and sunset, connecting tents with his legs on the grassland, and when the sky is full of stars, by the oil lamp in the shepherd's tent, Amugan is still soothing to tell the story of Shakyamuni Buddha's hardships and freedom from suffering.

The shepherds who have heard Amugan talk about Buddhism are deeply aware of the pain and troubles of life, and unconsciously recite "Om Mani Horn Mi Mi" every day.

With the help of some loyal believers, it took him less than a month to visit all the lower shepherds' tents in the old tribe.

The sound of "Ommani Horn Mi Hum" quickly reached the ears of the chief of the Na Wu Lao tribe, Gelai Hui Xiaoyan, and the leader of the tribal army, Gazhuo.

At first, the two leaders of the Nawu Lao Department did not take it to heart, because the entire prairie under the rule of the steppe king Chijin Bo Khan belonged to the Xurui Dynasty, and the Xurui Dynasty has always vigorously advocated Buddhism, so the grassland king also allowed monks to spread Buddhism on various grasslands.

Later, the two leaders of the Na Wu Lao Department couldn't sit still.

The scattered shepherds met in the evenings to exchange experiences of the Dharma they had heard from Amughan.

Amugan had never been to the army, but most of the soldiers in the army had learned to recite the mantra "Om Mani Horn Mi Wai".

The leader of the army, Gazhuo, first went to the chieftain Glaiqiu Xiaoyan and expressed his worries about the morale and combat effectiveness of the army.

The chieftain Gelaihui Xiaoyan said, "Ga Zhuo! There is a monk sent by the Xurui Dynasty in the four largest clans of our Na Wu Lao Division, and there is a monk named Zhihui living in our clan, and you know him. Zhihui's tent is not far from me, I will first let him go to your army, then let him go to the herdsmen, and finally let him go directly to the monk who came to our Na Wu Lao Department to spread Buddhism, and when Zhihui understands the whole situation, we will decide what measures to take. ”

A few days later, Zhihui came back to see Gelaihui and Gazhuo and said, "Two lords, the poor monk has brought you good news. Now, many of our herdsmen believe in Buddhism, and they have the shadow of the Buddha and Bodhisattva in their hearts who only want to relieve the suffering and troubles of the world, which enables them to face the harsh environment of the grassland more calmly, to endure hunger and all disasters calmly, and the Buddha and Bodhisattva make them understand the meaning of pain and suffering better. In the future, the shepherds of the Na Wu Lao Department will become more united and more vigorous, which should be the situation that the two adults want to see the most. ”

The chieftain Glaiyu Xiaoyan and the army leader Gazhuo were excited when they heard Zhihui's words.

The chieftain Gelaiyu Xiaoyan said: "In this way, we have to thank the monk who came to the grassland to spread Buddhism!"

Zhihui said, "Chief, the monk's name is Amgan, and he is from the distant Radan Dynasty. I had heard of him in the monasteries of the capital city, and he was the number one monk of the Radanpo Dynasty, the holy land of Buddhism. It took him a month to complete the mission of spreading Buddhism, which I had not completed for two years. ”

......

A few days later, Zhihui took Amgan to the tent of the chieftain Glai Boyan.

The chieftain Gelaiyu Poyan bowed to Amugan and said, "Thank you for your hard work, thank you for coming to our grassland and bringing the gospel to the herdsmen. ”

Amgan folded his hands and bowed and said, "The gospel of the herdsmen is the gospel of the grassland, the gospel of the grassland is the gospel of the world, and the gospel of the world is the gospel of the Buddha." Boom!"

When the chief heard Ah Mugan's words, he hurriedly laughed and said, "The monk said it well! I hope you can live in the grassland of our old tribe for a long time, teach my herdsmen, and teach me." I have a question for the monks now, our monks here recite Amitabha Buddha with one mouth, what did you just say Ma Hong, what do you mean?"

Amugan said, "The Om Mani Horn Mi I recite is the six-character Great Ming Mantra, which is the Great Compassion and Great Compassion Guanyin Bodhisattva Mantra, which symbolizes the compassion and blessings of all Bodhisattvas. Reciting the six-character mantra can eliminate the suffering of struggle, the suffering of birth, old age, sickness and death, the suffering of animal servitude, the hunger and thirst of hungry ghosts, and the suffering of hot and cold hell. ”

That night, the chiefs, Glaiju and Amugan, had a long conversation in their tent.

The chief Gelai Hui also often listened to Zhihui's lectures on the Buddha, but most of them failed to listen to his heart, and the Dharma that Amugan said opened the knots in his heart that he had accumulated over the years, and he felt unprecedented happiness.

The next day, the chieftain Glaiyu Boyan found his wife and several children, and he wanted to show his family the demeanor of this wise and wise monk who had come from afar.

The chieftain Gelaiyu Xiaoyan's family, a dozen or so people, all looked disdainful when they saw this short, thin, skinned monk who was several times darker than the shepherd, but when they spent a morning with Amugan, all of them fell in love with him.

Amogan and the family of the chieftain Glaiqiu Xiaoyan drank milk tea and ate a precious stuffed pasta dish from the grassland, and enjoyed themselves.

The chieftain Glaiyu Xiaoyan saw the incomparable happiness that Amugan brought to his family, and made up his mind that he must leave Amugan in the Etobae grassland and stay in the Nawu Lao Department.

At noon, the chief of the Suinu tribe, another tribe in the Etobae steppe, sent someone to the chieftain Gelaiyu Xiaoyan to discuss the tribal alliance.

When the chief was leaving, he told Amogan that he would stay at his house for a few more days, and that he would be back in three days.
