Chapter 70: The Test (Asking for Recommendations)
Christmas is supposed to be a day to celebrate.
The sorcerers of ancient Rome believed that this day was the hope of spring and the beginning of the revival of all things.
But for Matthew Wakefield, he wasn't in the mood to celebrate today.
Unable to go to breakfast, he returned to the Slytherin common room.
Facing the emerald green flames burning in the fireplace, Matthew shuddered and shook the book out of his pocket and onto a round table in the common room.
......
What had just happened was undoubtedly contrary to Matthew's previous understanding.
He had thought that the book was a powerful dark magic object that appeared around him frequently to take his own life.
So for the past four months, he's been trying to keep himself out of touch with the book.
And Draco Malfoy's entourage, who had previously been admitted to the school hospital, further verified his judgment.
Until today, he suddenly realized that his previous judgment was completely wrong......
Mr. Pringer found the book by his office, held it all the way to himself, and patted himself on the head with it......
If this book had behaved the same way it had faced Draco Malfoy before, it would have killed itself and Mr. Pringer on the spot!
However, it didn't, at least Matthew was alive and well.
So, why exactly......
Matthew lowered his head and looked straight at the book.
The front and back covers made of leather seem to have changed a little from the first time Matthew saw them...... The original eerie color has become a little softer.
Probably because of this, when Mr. Pringer found it next to his office, he didn't feel anything out of the ordinary.
At the same time, on the cover of the book, two lines of green words were written crookedly:
"Matthew Wakefield. ”
"Slytherin 1st year. ”
No wonder Mr. Pringer was able to find his head......
Matthew blinked, and he decided to do a little experiment!
Back in the dormitory, he took out his little pet, the black-framed toad, from the cage.
The little creature had been here for four months, doing nothing but eating breadworms, and now, it was time to prove his worth.
"Quack!" the poor little creature let out a soft cry, completely unaware of the fate that awaited it.
Matthew grabbed it with his right hand and carried it to the common room and to the fireplace.
Throw it lightly and drop it onto the book.
The toad subconsciously wanted to jump away.
However, Matthew's left hand had already raised his wand:
"It's all petrified!"
The toad's whole body instantly stiffened, and it collapsed on the book, no longer moving.
As for Matthew, he sat in the armchair next to him, quietly watching everything in front of him.
......
Minutes and seconds passed.
Matthew was not impatient at all and waited patiently.
On the way, the Slytherin seventh-year girl had returned to the common room, and when she saw the toad on the round table, she looked disgusted and hurried away and returned to her dormitory.
It wasn't until near noon that Matthew felt like his experiment was almost over.
He raised his wand once more, aiming it at the toad:
"Stop!"
The Petrification Spell was lifted.
"Quack!" the black-framed toad let out a loud cry and jerked away.
It hops around the Slytherin common room with great merriment, its vitality and life unaffected.
The trial was a great success!
Matthew looked at the toad jumping around in disbelief, and then at the book.
Inside the common room, it was as if a breeze was blowing.
With a sudden, the book opened on its own.
It's still the same page as before, and the handwriting on it is still clearly visible:
"I have no ill will towards you!"
This line of green words appeared in front of him again.
Matthew took a deep breath, and a finger deep in his body, slowly, slowly, touched the page.
Nothing out of the ordinary.
Two fingers...... Then to one hand......
Matthew himself was still unaffected.
Could it be ...... Is this book true?
......
From the pen holder on the table, Matthew took out a quill pen and dipped it in ink.
Then he wrote on the page:
"Hello!"
The black ink shimmered on the paper for a second, and then disappeared as if it had been sucked into the paper.
And the green handwriting from before also disappeared.
A few seconds later, a line of dark green handwriting flashed back on the paper:
"Hello, Matthew!"
Matthew's expression looked a little serious.
Again the quills were stained with ink, and then he wrote quickly:
"What the hell do you want to do?"
It only took him a second before he got a reply.
The book reads, "I just want to help you. ”
Matthew couldn't help but sneer, he tried to make his expression as serious as he could, and then wrote on the paper:
"I don't need any help. ”
This time, the book's answer seemed a little dense:
"No, you need ...... I can tell you the root of all these Hogwarts attacks...... I can also tell you what Grindelwald really was like...... I can even teach you unimaginably powerful magical ......"
Matthew crooked his mouth, once again covered in ink:
"So, at what cost?"
The large number of words disappeared and was replaced by a line of dark green, very seductive small print:
"It doesn't cost anything!"
As soon as this line appeared, Matthew wrote very sloppily:
"Okay, thank you very much...... I'll definitely come to you when I need it!"
Before the black ink disappeared, Matthew was very decisive in closing the entire book completely.
Then, he took it back to his bedroom and put it in a drawer on his desk.
......
Clapping his hands, he walked out of the dormitory without hesitation, and then walked out of the common room.
I hadn't eaten all morning, and my stomach was a little rumbling with hunger.
As he hurried towards the auditorium, Matthew muttered to himself:
"What about you?"
