At this time, Huo Yuanjia had already married a wife and had children, and his life was not rich. In order to make a few more money, others generally pick up firewood for one hundred and fifty or sixty catties, but Huo Yuanjia relied on his own strength, carried three or four hundred catties, and walked dozens of miles to Tianjin Wei.
Huo Yuanjia had just arrived at the west end of the west outside the Weixi Gate in Tianjin, and before it opened, he met a "gangster" who wanted "land money" and "shoulder money". As a last resort, Huo Yuanjia threw the little gangster on his back and turned him to the sky. Seeing that the situation was not good, the thugs got up and ran away. It didn't take much effort, and he recruited dozens of people. Each with a knife and a gun, came to take revenge. Huo Yuanjia didn't hurry up, took out his flat pole and beat them to the head. All this was seen by Boss Feng, the shopkeeper of the foot shop. He bought all of Huo Yuanjia's firewood and asked Huo Yuanjia to come to Tianjin to take over the business. After Huo Yuanjia took over, he successively canceled many funds that extorted money from the people and won the popularity of the people. In the spring of 1909, the British Hercules Opiin came to Shanghai at the Apollo Theatre at No. 52 North Sichuan Road, "performing weightlifting, exposing muscles and bodybuilding, about 20 minutes, for several nights, and finally said that he was willing to wrestle with the Chinese." In his speech, he said with some contempt, and the next day he appeared in the newspapers, and the people of Shanghai were in an uproar. So Chen Youmei, Nong Jinsun, Chen Tiesheng, Chen Gongzhe and others "wanted to hire skilled fighters to take the stage and compete to show their yellow soul." ”
Huo Yuanjia received an invitation and rushed to Shanghai with his apprentice Liu Zhensheng in March 1909 to discuss the martial arts competition, and agreed to "use wrestling to win and lose by falling to the ground". As a result, the promoters began to raise funds to build a "four feet high, twenty feet wide" ring in Zhang's Weixu Garden (Zhang Yuan) on Jing'an Temple Road in Shanghai. At 4 p.m. in mid-June, the time for the game had arrived, but Opiyin did not come. In this way, Huo Yuanjia became famous in Shanghai.
After the "Zhang Yuan Competition", Huo Yuanjia founded the "Jingwu Gymnastics Club" in the Wang's house in Zhabei in 1909, with Liu Zhensheng as an assistant coach. As a result, the Huo family's lost trace boxing began to spread to the society on a large scale and was made public to the world without reservation. At that time, after learning of this situation, the Japanese martial arts gym in Shanghai selected more than ten judo masters from Japan to compete with Huo Yuanjia, and Huo Kai's disciple Liu Zhensheng was invited to the Japanese martial arts gym to learn skills. It is recorded that "the Japanese side raided Yuanjia, and Yuanjia counterattacked the Japanese side...... Taking advantage of the momentum, he fell into the heavenly steps, and unfortunately broke his right hand, although he had no intention of hurting, he was not free from displeasure. Since then, people have a grudge against Huo. Just as Huo Yuanjia presided over the Jingwu Gymnastics Meeting and carefully cultivated the backbone in order to show his greatness, he was framed by the Japanese. Because hemoptysis worsened after mistakenly ingesting the pills sold by the Japanese, he was rushed to the China Red Cross Hospital on Xinzha Road for treatment and passed away two weeks later. According to the record of "Jingwu Benji", "the next morning of the death of the wrestler, the autumn doctor (Japanese doctor Akino) has returned to the cave, the disciples of the wrestler gate are suspicious, and the rest of the medicine taken by the wrestler is paid to the public hospital for inspection, and the hospital doctor said: This chronic rotten lung medicine is also." ”
After Huo Yuanjia's death, his family and followers Chen Gongzhe, Lu Weichang and others carried forward the national soul of "Jing" and "Wu", invigorated the national spirit, and actively promoted the development of Jingwu sports. It was the long-cherished wish of the Jingwu ancestors to establish the Jingwu Sports Association in Huo Yuanjia's hometown, but due to various reasons in history, this wish was only realized after the reform and opening up. On June 30, 1990, the Tianjin Jingwu Sports Association, which was located in Huo Yuanjia's hometown Xiaonanhe, was finally established.
The establishment of Tianjin Jingwu Sports Association not only fulfilled the dream of Jingwu sports people, but also fulfilled the dream of the Huo family and the dream of Tianjin people.
