Chapter 70: Searching for Immortals
Seeing that Yu Fei'er finished asking the question, he looked at himself expectantly, and the disciple of Longdong Mountain replied with some embarrassment: "You little Taoist friend is really anxious, can't you let me take my time? You asked me what is the name of this broken temple? Didn't I already say it before, the plaque hanging above the gatehouse of this broken temple is blurred, almost indistinguishable, and naturally it is impossible to know its name." As for which gods are enshrined in the main hall of this temple? Little Taoist friend, you should listen to me slowly. After speaking, this Longdong Mountain disciple began his memories again:
I followed the scorpion and finally entered the main hall of the ruined temple. Because the sky had already darkened, the light in the entire hall was extremely dim. In order to find the scorpion that had entered the temple, I had to bend my waist and lower my head and search carefully on the ground. To my disappointment, I searched the temple for a full time, but found no trace of the scorpion, and I couldn't help but have the idea of giving up. With this thought of giving up in my heart, I immediately felt a pain in my lower back, and quickly straightened up, intending to rest for a while and then leave here. Taking advantage of the break, I began to look around the main hall. After some scrutiny, I found that many of the pillars and beams in the main hall had rotted, and after losing the support of these pillars and beams, the roof collapsed one after another, so that the whole roof completely lost its role as shelter from the wind and rain, which eventually led to the idol enshrined in the center of the main hall, which has long been eroded by the wind and rain and is completely unrecognizable from its original prototype. Not far in front of this statue, two huge pillars stood majestically, but fortunately, the two large pillars standing in front of this statue were not seriously rotten, otherwise the main hall would have collapsed. And on these two big pillars, there is actually a couplet engraved, one of the pillars is engraved: "Three through its door to the void of Xin Ren Jia", and the other pillar is engraved: "Eight years in the outside of the Pingcheng River Han Jianghuai".
As I kept reciting this couplet in my mouth, I suddenly heard a "pop" sound in my ears, and at the same time I heard the sound of "hula, hula" in my ears. I quickly looked away from the two large pillars in the center of the hall and looked in the direction from which the voice had come.
I don't know when, a gust of wind has blown outside the hall, blowing the doors and windows that remain on the walls around the hall swaying, and this "popping" sound is the old doors and windows in the hall after slapping the door frames and window frames. As for the sound of "hula, hula", it was emitted by the wind blowing the window paper that remained on the doors and windows.
As my attention was drawn to the dilapidated doors and windows, I realized that it was completely dark outside the window, and I couldn't help but feel nervous. And just then, a wail suddenly came from under my feet: "Help me...... Help me......"
This voice sounded like it came from under the ground in the hall, and I was so frightened that I trembled all over, and I couldn't help but remember what I had said in my ancestral teachings, and there were rumors that ghosts and monsters were infested here, so I quickly raised my hands to protect my head, and ran out of the hall.
Thankfully, I managed to get out of the ruined temple. In retrospect, I don't even know how I got out. When I returned to Longdong Mountain, I was always a little uneasy in my heart, because the ancestral teachings said that if someone dared to break into that forbidden land, then a great calamity would surely befall that person. Fortunately, in the following days, nothing unusual happened to me, and the entire Xishan Island was the same as usual, there was no abnormal situation, and my hanging heart finally relaxed.
When my master showed us this occasional painting, I had almost forgotten all about it, but after seeing the temple and the couplet in the painting, the past was finally sketched out in my mind again. I immediately picked up the painting in my hand and said to my master, "Master, disciple is sure that the island in this painting should be our Xishan Island. ”
"Chongyang, why are you so sure that the island in this picture is our Xishan Island? "My master, after listening to my words, immediately raised his question.
"The reason why Master has never seen such a temple on Xishan Island is because ...... Because ......"
"Why what? Chongyang, say it quickly. ”
"When the disciple says it, Master must not scold the disciple. In fact, this temple is in the forbidden area in the northwest of our Xishan Island. A few days ago, the disciple had only seen such a temple in this forbidden area. ”
After hearing what I said, the elders and brothers present all showed surprised expressions on their faces, and then they began to discuss with each other. My master was also taken aback when he heard what I said, but he quickly calmed down and shouted to the elders and disciples who were talking, "Everyone be quiet. After everyone in the room stopped talking, my master asked me again: "Chongyang, how can you be sure that the temple you see in the forbidden area is the temple in this painting?"
I replied with an affirmative face: "After entering this forbidden area, the disciple not only saw such a temple as depicted in the painting, but also saw a couplet carved on the pillars in the main hall of this temple that was exactly the same as in this painting, so the disciple was very sure in his heart that the temple built in the forbidden area was the temple in this painting. ”
"What? Chongyang, you actually dare to go to that temple alone? Have you forgotten the ancestral teachings in the sect?" The elders and brothers present discussed again, and the scene suddenly became a mess.
"Everyone, stop arguing, let's let Chongyang explain the whole thing in detail. "My master was also skeptical when he heard what I said, and immediately stopped the discussion of the elders and disciples present, and motioned for me to explain the whole thing in detail.
At the suggestion of my master, I hurriedly told myself how I had strayed into the forbidden land, how I had entered the temple, and finally saw the couplet on the pillars in the hall, and explained it in detail to everyone present. But in the course of the narration, I did not mention the wail that suddenly came from under the ground of the temple, for I was afraid that the brothers and sisters in my sect would laugh at me when they found out that I had escaped from the temple with my head in my arms.
After listening to my narration, my master picked up the painting in his hand again and looked at it repeatedly. He looked at it, and a glimmer of light suddenly flashed in his eyes, as if he had found the answer in this painting: "The hill in this painting is called the Immortal Cave, is it a hint that there is an immortal hidden in the hill behind this temple?"
Master's words instantly exploded among the elders and brothers present. While they were gossiping and talking to each other, one of the oldest elders in the sect stood up and said, "There is a clear rule in my ancestral teachings that no one in the sect is allowed to set foot in that forbidden area on the island. Now, Chongyang violated the ancestral teachings and trespassed on the forbidden land, and deserved to be punished. ”
"Yes, yes, yes, you should be punished. Several of the other elders in the room immediately agreed.
My master hurriedly excused me and said, "We don't care whether Chongyang should be punished or not, I just want to ask all the elders here, what is the purpose of your cultivation in this Dragon Cave Mountain? Isn't it just to be able to cultivate the Tao and become immortals? Now that we have such a good opportunity in front of us, how can we easily miss it?" Besides, this picture was also discovered by me from the ancient books left by my ancestors, maybe some of the ancestors of our sect deliberately left it after he became an immortal, so that I could wait to find him and help me become an immortal, are you really willing to waste such an opportunity?"
How can this temptation of ascending to immortality be something that ordinary people can resist? After hearing my master's words, all the elders present here were silent. Seeing that the elders in the sect were silent, my master selected ten young and strong disciples on the spot and instructed them, "After you go back, prepare me some more tools for mining in the mountains." Wait until tomorrow morning, and you will go with your teacher and Chongyang to the temple in the northwest of the island to look for the immortals. ”
The ten selected disciples were puzzled and asked Master, "Master, why do we want to bring tools for mining in the mountains?"
My master replied proudly, "This line of poetry in the painting is very clear, if you want to find the 'fairy cave' hidden in this hill, you must first turn over the rocks on this hill. ”
After listening to Master's explanation, everyone present admired Master for throwing himself to the ground. After all the people present at the Master General were disbanded, the ten selected disciples went back to prepare the tools for mining in the mountains.
Early the next morning, the 10 selected disciples took their tools, dry food, and water, and headed with Master and I towards the northwest of the island. After walking for about an hour, our group finally came to the forbidden land on the northwest side of the island.
Under my leadership, our group soon came to the ruined temple in the forbidden area. I stepped forward and pushed open the temple door and led the people through the main hall of the temple to the backyard behind the main hall. When everyone came to this backyard behind the main hall, everyone was dumbfounded. In particular, my master, after seeing this backyard in front of him, kept talking to himself: "How is this possible? Could it be that I am wrong? Or is this not the place to which this painting is pointed?"
It turned out that there was only an empty courtyard behind the main hall of this temple, and there was not a hill as depicted in the painting.
"Master, where is the hill? There doesn't seem to be anything else in this backyard except for these rocks on the ground. My ten brothers said as they walked towards the middle of the courtyard. But before a few of them could take a few steps in the courtyard, they had already fallen to the ground on all fours, screaming "wow" in pain. It turned out that the stones embedded in the ground of the backyard had not been walked on for many years, and the surface was covered with green moss.
My ten brothers and sisters managed to get up from the ground, and then they all retreated to the entrance of the courtyard and found a relatively clean place to sit down. As soon as they threw their tools on the ground, one of the disciples immediately shouted at my master, "Master, what kind of fairy cave is there? ”
"Yes, we've all been tricked! Master, let's rest here for a while and then go back. The other disciples immediately chimed in.
Hearing that his disciple was complaining about himself, my master asked me a little angrily: "Chongyang, why didn't you make it clear yesterday that there is no hill in the backyard of this temple? ”
Hearing Master say that he would punish me severely when I went back, I quickly explained, "Master, the disciple didn't mean to hide it. When the previous disciples came to this temple, it was already late, and they really couldn't see if there was a hill behind this temple. And...... And ......"
"And what? Chongyang, do you still have something to hide as a teacher?"
"The disciple didn't dare. Now, the disciple has told the truth. Earlier, not long after the disciples entered the main hall of this temple, they suddenly heard someone shouting 'help' under the ground in the hall. After hearing this voice, the disciple was terrified and immediately fled from the temple with his head in his arms. Where do you dare to come back to this backyard. ”
"And such a thing? In this case, there must be an immortal trapped here, and it was this immortal who left this painting and asked me to wait to save me. Chongyang, you quickly follow the teacher to the hall to take a closer look and see if there are any new clues. "My master hurriedly pulled me back into the hall and searched for new clues.
After the two of us walked around this temple several times, my master finally figured out the origin of this temple: "It seems that this temple should be built to commemorate the king of Dayu who successfully controlled the water." If the teacher is not mistaken, the plaque hanging on the gate tower of the temple should be written with the words 'Yuwang Temple'. In that year, in order to commemorate the exploits of King Yu to control the water, the people of Shenzhou built many temples like this on the land of Shenzhou, and named these temples as 'Yuwang Temple'. ”
"It turns out that the statue enshrined in the center of the hall is the king of Dayu. Master, after you say this, the disciple now understands that the couplet on these two pillars is exactly the allusion of King Dayu's control of the water. ”
My master didn't listen to me at all, but only said to himself: "It's really strange that the lake, the island, the temple, and the couplet in the painting are all corresponding, but why is there no hill behind the temple? Is this painting really just a random idea of the person who painted it? If not, then what is the meaning of this poem in the painting?" While talking to himself, he stared at the statue of King Dayu, hoping that he could get some inspiration in this statue.
"Scorpion, Master, look at it. The previous disciple was chasing this scorpion and inadvertently broke into here. I pointed to the scorpion that suddenly appeared on the altar in the temple and screamed in surprise.
My exclamation drew my master's attention back and immediately followed the direction of my finger. The strange thing is that the scorpion on the altar is actually missing at this moment. My master looked at it for a long time, but he couldn't see the scorpion I was talking about, and then he glared at me and reprimanded me loudly, "Criminal, you have to dare to interrupt the teacher's thinking with nonsense, and see how the teacher will punish you severely after he returns." ”
Hearing that the master was going to punish me again, I was so frightened that I didn't dare to say anything more, but I was very unconvinced in my heart: "I saw that scorpion just now, why did it disappear in the blink of an eye?"
After much hard searching, I finally found the scorpion under one of the statue's upturned feet. I suppressed the ecstasy in my heart and leaned lightly towards the scorpion. Just as I was about to take the tool out of my body to capture it, the scorpion seemed to spot me again, and quickly burrowed under the idol's feet, never to be seen again.
I couldn't believe my eyes, so I quickly fell under the feet of this statue to see if there was any cave under the feet of this statue where the scorpion could hide inside. But after looking at it for a long time, I couldn't see any cave under the foot of this statue, only that there seemed to be something carved on the sole of this foot.
To see what was carved into the bottom of my foot, I continued to move my body closer to the upturned foot. It wasn't until I had placed my head almost entirely under the sole of this foot that I turned my head and looked over the sole of this foot with wide eyes. This time I finally saw clearly, it turned out that the sole of this foot was engraved with a guqin.
Curiously, I stretched out my hand and touched the guqin on the sole of my foot, and pressed it hard. What I didn't expect was that the guqin on the soles of my feet was actually movable, and when I pressed it hard, it was actually pressed into the soles of my feet.
As I pressed the guqin on the soles of my feet to the inside of my feet, I immediately heard the "boom" sound of the stone slab opening in my ears. Immediately afterward, my master's questioning voice came from my ears: "Chongyang, what are you doing?"
But before I could reply, I heard my master shout again, "Quick! ”
My first reaction at that time was that I thought that something had happened to my master, but who knew that things were far from going like this.
