And even if we have the basic material conditions and spiritual pursuits, the possessiveness will not be eliminated by this, on the contrary, our desires will continue to increase as the conditions improve.

Desire to possess more wealth, to occupy a higher position, to possess greater fame. What about after possession? After possession, we have to compare ourselves with others in order to exalt ourselves and show off ourselves. On the one hand, there is continuous possession, and on the other hand, there is continuous comparison, and the result is that there is fierce competition between people. Competition stimulates people's latent strength to a certain extent and promotes economic development, so some people say that desire is the meaning of survival! The ultimate purpose of survival is to satisfy desire, and the history of human development is actually the expansion of desire.

The basic desires of human beings can be summarized into five types: wealth, sex, fame, food, and sleep. Desire for wealth is the demand for wealth of human beings, the so-called people die for money, birds die for food, and all the efforts of life are busy around money. Lust mainly refers to the need for the opposite sex. Fame is the desire for fame and status. For some people, the most important goal of life is to be able to glorify their ancestors during their lifetime and to be able to live forever after death. Appetite is the human need for food. Sleepiness is people's need for sleep.

People who love money feel that having money is the greatest pleasure in life, and they can do anything to make money; people who are greedy for sex can leave their family and career behind for the sake of beauty; people who have a particularly strong sense of vanity will not hesitate to sacrifice everything for the sake of their reputation; greedy people are like gluttons, and only enjoying food is the happiest thing in life; and people who are greedy for sleep can waste their time in order to sleep.

These five basic desires are all human instincts. They are reasonable, ethical, and humans have every reason to enjoy these innate needs. But it must be done just right, in the mean, abstinence and indulgence are wrong.

The practice of an ascetic is not advisable. I once read a Buddhist story. Shakyamuni used to spend some time with a group of people who advocated the abstinence of desires, and the absessants believed that the desire to eat was also a sin, so they adopted the method of dieting. Shakyamuni also thought at the beginning that desire is an obstacle that blinds our eyes and hearts, and he did it even harder, and he began to go on a hunger strike, and on the fifth day of the hunger strike, people finally fainted from hunger. At this time, a little girl who was herding sheep found him and gave him a bowl of goat's milk. It was at that thought that he suddenly realized something and left those who were desperate.

A gentleman's love of money is the right way for us to deal with desires. It is necessary to satisfy our desires without harming others and society. Always remember: desires are infinite, and reality is difficult to satisfy all human desires. In the face of limited resources, competition, confrontation and conflict are inevitable. If everyone is selfish and attacks each other in order to gain more than others, it will make the world in danger.

If we can restrain our desires, then the conflicts caused by desires will be easily resolved. If each of us is content and happy, and lives simply, we can have more leisure to enjoy life without having to spend our lives on satisfying our desires.

The so-called fear is awe, and it is really dangerous to be fearless in life. The Mandate of Heaven is the superhuman master, the natural law that all things must follow from a modern point of view, and the final determinant of life, far higher than the majesty of life in the words of adults and saints. The words of the adults and the saints belong to the real world, the majesty of the adults lies in power, and the majesty of the saints lies in morality, which is the embodiment of goodness.
