What's under the tile
There is often a scene in TV dramas where people lie on the roof and lift the tiles to see the scenery inside the house, is this setting reliable?
What the house looks like should have a lot to do with the local climate, and the north and south should be different, so my research may not be accurate, please forgive me.
In some places, when building a house, there are purlins under the tiles, and if you lift the tiles, you can see the scene inside.
These places to build a house is to build a horizontal beam first, and then build a number of purlins longitudinally between the beam and the wall, the width between the tiles should be able to hold the tiles, the grooves of the tiles are laid on the purlins one by one, and then a group of tiles are covered on the two groups of tiles, at this time the grooves are facing down, people will not have any problems on the top, and the tiles above are pressed below, and the general roof and the edges of the four sides will also be handled with special care to prevent rainwater from backing up.
So there's nothing wrong with the scenes on TV for them.
There are other places where it is more complicated.
These places will be laid with two layers of tiles. Below is a layer of bottom tiles, and the upper layer is called a top tile. The bottom tile and the top tile bite together to form a groove, which is called a gutter. Underneath the bottom tile is a mud back, and the so-called mud back should be a layer of five to eight centimeters thick triple soil. Underneath the mud back is a wooden plank called a lookout board. Underneath the lookout board is a mat, or calamus. At the bottom are the rafters. On the mud back of the inner courtyard of the palace, there should be a layer of tin back. It is poured with hot tin on the back of the mud. In this way, the house will basically not leak.
Therefore, people in these places should not see anything when they lift the tiles.
In addition, the rafters are laid on the house coffin, which is the supporting structure of the Chinese roof ridge. It is not allowed to be fixed with iron nails between the authentic old-style houses, and all of them must be tenoned. When building a house, the pillars should be slightly inclined inwards so that they will naturally perpendicate after bearing the weight of the roof. Otherwise, the pillars will be tilted outward, and there is a danger that the house will collapse.
Traditional Chinese architecture can achieve that the house does not collapse. This should be related to the tenon joint. Because it is not rigid, there is room for movement between all components, and even if an earthquake occurs, it is not easy to collapse.
