Chapter 34 Covering the heart and deceiving the lord with clever words
Tianqu was asked by the Buddha like this, and he was stunned at that time, and the blazing jealousy that had ignited in his heart suddenly seemed to be thrown into a frozen lake, and it disappeared without a trace in an instant, and even vaguely felt that cold air was coming out of his body. All of a sudden, he suddenly forgot the urgency he had just had, and he didn't know why he was rushing forward in such a hurry.
Tianqu looked around, saw everyone staring at him with a strange gaze, and couldn't help but lose all confidence, where could he still mention the idea of replacing the Buddha, and hurriedly said: "Master, the disciple has been looking forward to your return for seven days. The moment I saw you again, I couldn't suppress my feelings, so I couldn't help but run over eagerly, ignoring all the qiÄ. ā
When he said this, his heart pounded. Just now, the Buddha opened his mouth and said that his life was at stake, but he already knew that the disciple had been killed by himself. Is it because the Buddha's supernatural powers are so vast that his eyes do not leak out? Or is it that the disciple's spirit does not disperse and goes to the Buddha to ask for a dream? Or is there a sense between the Buddha and his disciple that no one else knows?
Seeing that the Buddha smiled with relief, he said to the soldiers holding spears on top of the white elephant: "You don't need to panic, it is my disciple who misses me too much, so he rushed into the team." Put away your spears, for the peaceful six-tusked white elephant is going berserk. I have arrived at the ashram, and the lord's order has been completed, so you can go back now, and bring this six-tusked white elephant with you!"
As the Buddha spoke, he reached out and patted the white elephant on the back gently, and the white elephant obediently knelt down and sat on the ground, letting the Buddha get off its back.
A sturdy bearded man from among the soldiers stepped forward, he was the captain of the guard. The captain first handed the spear in his hand to a soldier beside him and walked up to the Buddha. He patted his chest, bowed, and said, "Venerable, the order of the lord of the kingdom is to leave this six-tusked white elephant and ten soldiers behind, and the white elephant will be your mount in the future, so that you can go around preaching the Dharma, and the soldiers will be your guards." Keep out the impudent thugs for you. This is what the lord of the kingdom told me to do before leaving. ā
The Buddha said, "Thank you for the good intentions of the lord of the country, but if I want to go anywhere, I already have two legs, and if I let the white elephant carry me every day, then why should I grow these two legs? As for letting those soldiers protect me, if what I do is disgusting and repulsive to everyone, then who can protect me? Don't say that there are only ten of you, even if there are ten armies, I am afraid they will not be able to protect me! Are you right?"
The captain of the guard looked resolute. At first glance, he was a person who had survived a hundred battles, and when he heard this, he nodded and said, "I completely agree with what you said, Venerable, but I only accept orders from the lord of the country. Before I came, the lord of the kingdom ordered me to hand over the white elephant and ten soldiers to you, and said that if you rejected the white elephant, I would have my left hand and left leg cut off, and if you refused ten soldiers, I would have my right hand and right leg cut off, depending on whether I would be cut off my left hand and left leg or my right right leg. However, if you decline both. I'm going to go to the lord with my head, and I don't even have the choice of who to cut off. Let me do it myself. ā
It seems that the lord of the country knows the Buddha too well, and knows that he has compassion in his heart, and he will never let others have their hands and feet cut off because of themselves, let alone their heads, which is a life. In this way, the Lord of the Kingdom did so that the Buddha had no way to refuse his gift. He must accept his kindness.
The Buddha didn't seem to say anything to refuse, and turned back to Tianqu and said, "My disciple, how do you say that you should accept the good intentions of the lord of the kingdom and let the white elephants and soldiers return to where they should go, without causing this personal guard to be harmed by the orders of the lord?"
Tianqu has always been adaptable and witty. Among the disciples under the Buddha, he is known as the first in wisdom, and when the Buddha asked him, he naturally wanted him to come up with a solution to this embarrassment. Because as far as the Buddha is concerned, he would never accept such a gift, which is contrary to the precepts he set for monastic practice. The Buddha often admonished his disciples not to indulge in all kinds of pleasures, but also set an example, saying that he was not the head of the monks, but among all the monks.
Tianqu knew what the Buddha meant, and thought again, even if you are a master, you are not asking for help from me, and suddenly I feel that I am amazing. However, he still had to send these soldiers first, so he saluted the Buddha and said, "The meaning of the master is to let the disciples deal with it." ā
Seeing that the Buddha nodded, Tianqu walked up to the guard, coughed, and said, "General, you have already heard it with your own ears, my master, that is, the Venerable in your mouth, the master of your country, has entrusted me to deal with this matter." I want to ask you first, just now you said that every word of the words that the lord of the country gave to you came from the mouth of the lord of the country, and he said it to you personally, right?"
The captain of the guard didn't know the intention of Bai Qu, but when he saw that the Buddha really asked him to deal with this matter, he nodded and said, "Yes." ā
Tianqu then asked: "Can you make sure that it is the original words of the lord of the country, and that nothing is missing? What he said is that you can choose to have your left hand and left foot cut off, or your right hand and right foot? And said that if both the white elephant and the soldier refuse at the same time, you will have to cut off your own head?"
The guards thought carefully and confirmed: "Yes, what I just said is the original words of the lord of the country, and there is not a single word wrong. Do you want me to disobey the orders of the lord? This is absolutely impossible, I can not care about life and death, and I will definitely fulfill the orders of the lord!"
"I absolutely believe in your loyalty, General, but I need to remind you that since you are so loyal to the lord, you should be very clear about the lord's entrustment? If you misunderstand the meaning of the lord, even if you are willing to die for the lord, the lord may not be able to feel your loyalty, and your family will probably feel sad at that time!"
The captain of the guard was shocked and angry when he heard this, he drew out the sword he carried with him, and shouted: "Cunning monk, what do you mean by saying such things?
"Why should the general be so impulsive? Don't forget, I'm going to take care of this matter now. As long as I refuse the white elephant and the soldiers, you can't even save your head, and you dare to be presumptuous to me here?"
"Do you think I'm afraid of death?" the captain of the guard shouted, and instead of being threatened, he turned sharply. The white light flashed continuously, and many swords were stabbed in one go. But it's a pity that where can I hurt the heavenly fun of the supernatural powers. I saw Tianqu swaying left and right a few times at will, and easily dodged these sharp blades.
There were soldiers all around, and the captain of the guard couldn't help but get agitated, and he waved his sword a little faster. But after hearing a sneer, the sword light stopped, and the captain of the guard felt a tightness in his hand, and the sword blade that was stabbed out was clamped by Tianqu with two fingers. No matter how hard he tried, until he was tired and sweating profusely, the sword could not be pulled out at all.
Tianqu looked at the captain of the guard, his face was light, and said: "General, I just want to sue you, since your lord has instructed you." If my master refuses the white elephant, you will have your left hand and left leg cut off. If you refuse ten soldiers, you will have your right hand and right leg cut off, and you will have to choose whether you will have your left hand and left leg cut off or your right right leg. Then I want to remind you, why didn't my master reject the white elephant, you chose to have your right hand and right leg cut off, and rejected ten soldiers. Why don't you choose to have your left hand and leg cut off?"
The pro-guard team was stunned for a moment, according to Tianqu's words, if this is the case, then his choice is not decided with the previous lord of the country, and if he refuses to be white, he will cut off his left hand and left foot. Is it against the order of the ruler to cut off his right hand and right leg if he refuses to be cut off by a soldier? But it is also the order of the lord of the country to choose which side to be cut off? In the final analysis, it is the lord of the country himself who disobeys himself, so does it not mean that neither of his hands and legs need to be cut off?
Of course, Tianqu is clearly deliberately misinterpreting the meaning of the lord of the country. The meaning of the lord of the country to let the captain of the guard choose is, of course, to let him choose one of the things that must be completed, but to supervise, not to let him have the right to choose which side to be cut off. But if you insist on explaining it like Tianqu, it is impossible to find fault, which is why he just emphasized asking the captain of the guard, is it the reason why the lord of the country said it word for word.
Although the captain of the guard is not afraid of death, of course, he doesn't want to die like this, and he understands the mystery in his mind, it seems that the Buddha will definitely not accept a white elephant or a soldier, if he returns according to the words of Tianqu, he only said that the Buddha taught himself, and he may not have a chance to survive, and immediately said: "But the lord of the country said that he refused both, but he wanted me to cut off my head, so what should I say?"
Seeing that the other party had understood what he meant, Tianqu let go of the blade between his fingers, and said with a smile: "This couldn't be simpler, my master clearly rejected the white elephant first, and then refused to be a soldier, but he didn't refuse both at the same time!"
When the captain of the guard heard this, he slapped his head and reacted, he was really stupid, why didn't he even think of this? But Tingtian said again: "This is just a clever speech, and if you reply like this, although you can make the lord of the country have nothing to say." But it's hard to guarantee that he thinks you're offended and will kill you directly. Let me teach you one more way, and promise to let you go back with the white elephant and the soldiers, and the lord will not only blame you, but will greatly reward you?"
The captain of the guard was worried that he might not be able to save his life with such words alone, and when he heard that Tianqu actually had a way to save his life, he was immediately overjoyed and said, "What else can you do, hurry up and sue me!"
Tianqu just smiled and didn't say anything, and when the captain of the guard saw this, he began to be a little confused, and then immediately reacted, put away the sword in his hand, and stepped back to Tianqu to make amends, calling it offended. Tianqu laughed with satisfaction, asked him to go over with his ear, whispered a little, and said that the eyebrows of the captain of the guard danced, and he called out the way.
After whispering, the captain of the guard hurriedly saluted the Buddha and left with the white elephant and the soldier in a gust of wind, as if in a hurry to do something. Seeing this, the other disciples all gathered around curiously, asking what Tianqu had said to the captain of the guard that would make him leave so satisfied.
Tianqu was reluctant to say it at first, and couldn't help but coax everyone, so he told the truth. It turned out that he was teaching the captain of the guard to carve a wooden statue of the master out of wood and put it on the back of the white elephant, so that the soldiers would flock back. In this way, not only is it in line with the wishes of the lord of the country, but there is no need for the Buddha to really accept the white elephant and the soldiers, the lord of the country will be satisfied, and his small life will be held aside, and he will be generously rewarded by the lord of the country.
At that time, the Buddha was still alive, and there was no statue of the Buddha in later generations. Therefore, Tianqu can be said to be the origin of the Buddha statue in later generations. When the disciples heard this method, they couldn't help but feel that it was really a good way to go to the extreme, and they praised it immediately. Some disciples even carved such wooden statues themselves, even if they went out of the house or the master was not around, they could still be like when the master was there.
As soon as this Jian yƬ came out, many disciples immediately responded, and everyone immediately began to make suggestions, intending to do this. Unexpectedly, the Buddha on the side suddenly sighed and said, "I am right next to you, and you still have to go to the wooden statue to find me." If one day I leave you, won't you just go to find the wooden statue, and then who will know me!"
When the Buddha said this, many of the disciples were ashamed and blushed. At this time, the Buddha said, "Tianqu, do you have anything else to say to me?" (to be continued......)
