One hundred and two

The first order was signed, and only 500,000 yuan was paid in advance for a long time, and the remaining 70% could only be delivered when it arrived, leaving 20% as a warranty, and the money had to wait for the payment cycle.

But I am not afraid of this for a long time, doing business with the country is the favorite thing of all businessmen, not to mention with the military.

The introduction was led by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the General Staff paid for it, and Minister Hou came to Hong Kong for acceptance and appraisal, and after the introduction, it was directly transported to a certain experimental bureau in Shijiazhuang.

This experimental bureau is a model project for the General Staff Department to build a modern army, and all the infrastructure and equipment are completely selected from the best type, and it must take into account the advanced technology and also be easy to procure and maintain.

At that time, the equipment of the General Staff was still a mechanical vertical and horizontal switchboard, and although it was completely sufficient, it was a headache in terms of both the failure rate and the maintenance cost, and it was difficult to build, so it was not suitable for the military system.

However, at present, the domestic switch is only this model, and the world cannot find an alternative solution, and the General Staff Department is also racking its brains about it.

I once mentioned the import of program-controlled machines, but those bigwigs in the army refused to use imported goods, saying that imported goods are expensive and spare parts are few, and if there is a failure, you have to spend a sky-high price to ask the devil to repair, civilian can, how can the army do this kind of thing, in case someone pinches your neck, you have nowhere to shout injustice, so it is over.

The Fujian Bureau successfully signed the introduction of Japan's Fujitsu F150 switch that year, which also made the General Staff blush, and complained a little about the brains of those bigwigs, and also intended to follow up.

It's just that there was no news for almost two years, and the Fujian side didn't even see a single exchange of chicken feathers, so the General Staff gave up.

It was not until Minister Hou recommended a long-term switch project this time that the General Staff began the introduction plan with great interest. The long-term switch technology is almost a rain from the sky, there are no technical barriers, and it is an advanced program-controlled machine, and it can also be localized in large quantities, and it is very cheap.

Therefore, the General Staff Department decided to first introduce a prototype at the Experimental Bureau in Shijiazhuang for trial, and if it could meet the performance requirements, it would start a plan to replace the army's communications equipment.

Minister Hou naturally couldn't ask for it, so he immediately threaded the needle for the General Staff and facilitated the transaction.

The machine is sold, but there are many follow-up matters, transportation, assembly, commissioning, maintenance, training, etc., which have to be done by knowledgeable people.

However, how many people in China now know how to program control machines? If they put it aside, they may be able to go into battle on their own for a long time, and this is what Minister Hou hopes to see.

It's just that now it's different, the PC platform has been launched, all the software systems on it are in a vacuum, and a large group of talented competitors on the other side of the ocean are working day and night to write programs for dollars.

How to go away at this time for a long time, if you don't occupy the high ground first, then you have to fall behind step by step, this example has been talked about countless times by later generations, that is, Microsoft.

Therefore, I can only stay in Hong Kong for a long time, entrust Zhang Yi to be responsible for these related things, and find the members of the domestic research laboratory for assembly and debugging, they are also experts.

Zhang Yi took the order and went on the road with Minister Hou, and he breathed a sigh of relief for a long time, and the first business was done.

Dr. Yu has now flown back to the United States to set up a branch in the United States, because it is expected that the first version of DOS will not sell very well because of the almost endless bugs in the first version of DOS, and people can't even tell whether it is a hardware failure or a software problem, which requires a replacement.

With a PC sample, it took a long time to rewrite my operating system to accommodate the strange 16-bit kernel of IBM-PC, which was a laborious project, and the headache of storage management in the x86 series was a programmer's nightmare.

But for the sake of monopoly, for the dollar, and for the sake of being the first in the world, I can only rewrite the system for a long time, and I keep greeting Intel's mother in my heart.

The new system that can be run was finally done before Dr. Yu flew to the United States, and in order to commemorate a certain god, this treasure was named "Dog Leftover" for a long time.

Dr. Yu was extremely uninterested in the long-term art of naming, so he reluctantly took the treasure and got on the plane and began a legendary experience.

In the United States, Dr. Yu is familiar with the situation, and it only cost $100 to register a company, Viewsoft. Didn't hire anyone, just let his wife watch the door, and began the long-planned lobbying campaign.

This is what he and have discussed with him for a long time in China, due to the extremely poor performance of microcomputers, almost no microcomputers used operating systems before the advent of PCs, even the most popular Apple did not become (in fact, there is an optional operating system CP/M, and the long-term operating system in this article, which is specially used to run videoform software).

It wasn't until 1977 that mainstream microcomputers began to use an operating system called CP/M, which was a system software designed for minicomputers.

CP/M was the first widely operating system, and its inventor was also a pathfinder of modern microcomputer architecture, named Gary Kiddell.

Lao Gai is also a generation of grandmasters, from a humble background, just a mathematics teacher in a military school.

Later, with the rise of computers, Lao Gai felt that mathematics was no longer popular, so he switched to teaching programming classes, which can be regarded as a professor and made a little money.

In 1972, due to his reputation, Lao Gai was hired by Intel as a consultant to develop an operating system based on 4004 computers, so he formed an indissoluble bond with the operating system.

It's just that Intel later felt that 4004 was useless, and even thought that the old cover was useless, so it swept the old cover out of the house in a friendly manner.

The depressed Mr. Gai was angry, and seriously despised Intel's behavior of beating the monk after reciting the scriptures, and decided to sell the operating system himself.

It's just that the microcomputer was not popular at that time, and Lao Gai was quite downturned for a few years after going to the sea, and he almost had to go back to school to re-operate his business. In 1976, the popularity of the Cowherd Star allowed him to run from time to time.

It's ridiculous that the license for the first CP/M operating system was not sold to Cowherd Star, but to the pirate IMSAI, a company that made its fortune by copying Cowherd Star.

Lao Gai's achievements don't stop there, his greatest and brightest invention is the BIOS.

Since the first license was sold, Lao Gai didn't want to hang himself from a tree, he also wanted to hang from the woods next to him. Therefore, Mr. Gai's intelligent brain also operated, and CP/M made a small change.

It was a small but far-reaching change, and we still have the BIOS to this day. As early as the beginning of the design of CP/M, Lao Gai wanted to make his system run on different machines, so he specially created a set of programs called "basic input and output (i.e., BIOS)" to store the special hardware characteristics of different machines.

The program is so small that by modifying this part of the code, Lao Gai can make his operating system support almost any computer. This makes this compatible, at the cost of modifying the "feature" file.

This feature of CP/M makes software developers greatly reduce the difficulty of development, as long as the program is used in the operating system of CP/M, the same program can be sold to users using different computers without restrictions, thus greatly expanding the market.

With the magic weapon of BIOS, CP/M has also become popular, except for Mac.

Originally, CP/M occupied all the operating system markets in history and became the de facto standard, but this time and space seems to be a little biased, because it has been around for a long time.

I have long been looking at the Apple machine, and the operating system characteristics developed by it are the same as those of CP/M, but it is more efficient and optimized for the Apple machine.

What's more, although there is a lot of software on CP/M, it is difficult to compete with the long-term killer application - videoform.

Due to the popularity of videoform in the United States, sales of Apple phones have also risen, accounting for almost half of the microcomputer market. Since videoform can only run on long-term operating systems, the distributor Walker also gives away the operating system at the same time as selling the software, and does not need a penny.

This was a long-term set, and people didn't understand the concept of an operating system at the time, so they were used to it as a necessary thing, and they were used to starting such a thing.

Lao Gai is a technical genius, but there is also a little bit of stubbornness of Confucianism, he adheres to his own principles, that is, he never relies on the CP/M system to develop his own application software, in his words is "I can't compete with my own customers for business", what a valuable principle, in the end it is an honest man, which is like the later Bill Gate, plagiarism like a wolf.

In this way, the long-term operating system followed videoform to occupy half of the country, and gradually some people began to write application software on the long-term system.

Although there are also CP/M diehards, they see the beauty of spreadsheet software, and try to write their own CP/M version, but unfortunately the performance of the things written is completely inferior to the long-term videoform, and there are very few people who use it.

The long-term operating system became the outlier at that time, and the free one was always better than the paid one, and gradually became popular in the hands of programmers.

Due to the long-term support of the operating system in C, the powerful compilation function makes programmers feel like a fish in water, affectionately called skywalker, which means whimsical, unrestrained, and completely forgot the name of X-system set by Walker.

Even hackers have parsing the structure of the system themselves, adding a BIOS system in a vain attempt to port the system to other machines. It's just that the programs cracked by hackers are not very stable and really can't be practical, so they have further promoted the pandemic of Mac.

At that time, the definition of hacking was completely different from that of today, and the meaning of hacking now included negative keywords such as virus, attack, sabotage, Trojan horse, invasion, etc., which are completely different.

The early hackers were purely a title, a symbol of honor, like a knight, not enough to deserve it. Early hackers were both hard and soft, advocating writing their own code, despising authority, and following the principles of creation.

It is an honour to be a computer hacker, and it reminds one of the intellectual, restless souls who stay up all night perfecting a program until it fails. It implies a dedication to the hardware and software of a computer, which may be seen as crazy by outsiders, but to the hacker as a necessity of his own life.

It's just that these people are a bit unruly, and it is rare to have a common language in front of the skywalker system and vigorously promote it, so the cheap Apple second generation has become their favorite.

Walker bought the ownership of videoform, and hired a few technicians to develop the PC version of videoform, and spent a lot of money, but the things that were made were not always the same taste, because it was not easy to port videoform to the PC dos system.

This is also one of the reasons why IBM-PC cannot be popular for the time being, because there is no killer application support, people are used to Mac, and it will take some time for the transformation to take place.

What Dr. Yu discussed with Changjiu was to authorize the modified dog remnant system to IBM, so as to squeeze out DOS and complete the hegemony of unification.
