Chapter 17: Transfiguration and Charms
Silently criticized the Animagus spell in his heart, and the surrounding Hufflepuff and Gryffindor first-year students had arrived one after another.
"Hello, Jon. ”
"Hello, Steven. ”
"Good morning, Jon. ”
"Good morning, Eloise. ”
Say hello to the Hufflepuff classmates one by one...... Little did they know, however, that the spotted cat on the podium was Professor McGonagall, who was talking and playing with each other without any scruples.
Among them, Steven Lucas also wanted to go to the podium to pet the spotted cat, but Jon stopped him.
Ginny Weasley also arrived, also sitting in the front row, alone at Jon's right-hand side.
At half-past eight, everyone in the class arrived...... Probably no one will be late for the first day, the first class.
"Good morning, everyone!" Professor McGonagall's voice suddenly came from the podium, startling most of the students, "Please be quiet!"
The whole classroom fell silent.
"I'm Minerva-McGonagall, your Transfiguration teacher......" Professor McGonagall briefly introduced herself.
"It's a dangerous process to change one thing, or one person, into another!" Professor McGonagall's voice was not high, but there was a strange persuasiveness: "A student who is not cautious enough to turn himself or someone else into a pig, a sheep, or something worse, has happened many times in the history of Hogwarts!"
"If you're lucky, this metamorphosis isn't permanent......" Professor McGonagall paused, "and if it was permanent, it would be a disaster!"
"Sixteen magical animals are known to have been created by the failed Transfiguration of wizards, including the infamous 'Five-Legged Monster'...... In the history of Great Britain, at least 300 wizards have died from their own failed Transfiguration, and nearly 900 have been disabled for life because of their failed Transfiguration!"
"I hope you won't be one of them!" Professor McGonagall glanced meaningfully at the crowd.
The Transfiguration classroom became prickly and the young wizards looked at each other.
"After you understand the dangers of Transfiguration, I will show you the complexity and magic of Transfiguration!"
Professor McGonagall said, waving her wand.
Almost instantly, the podium in front of her turned into a huge male lion:
"Whew!" the lion let out a roar and jumped in front of Colin Creevey's seat, causing the little Gryffindor boy to fall out of his chair in fright.
A few classmates who were close to it retreated again and again.
Professor McGonagall waved her wand again.
I saw the lion take two steps forward, and then turned into a dwarf badger, and saw scurrying around at the desk...... It even jumped onto Jon's table, leaving a paw print on it.
"Squeak...... Squeaky ......"
Eventually, the badger returned to Professor McGonagall and returned to the podium.
The students, who had just fallen into a panic about Transfiguration, were quickly attracted to ...... I wish I could learn how to do that right away.
"Of course...... Turning furniture into animals is something you can only learn in the upper grades!" Professor McGonagall motioned for everyone to be quiet, "I'll take you through the simplest of things, how to turn matches into needles!"
She handed out a few matches to each of the students.
"Imagine in your mind what a needle looks like...... Keep that scene in your mind until it's finalized, without any slight changes...... Now, let the match in front of you coincide with the needle in your mind......"
"The spell is 'Acus'! note that the accent is at the end...... Now, raise your wands......"
"Arcus!" Jon shouted without hesitation, raising his wand.
However, there seems to be no change in the match in front of me.
"Very pretty, Miss Weasley!" Professor McGonagall's voice rang out on Jon's right hand, "The first attempt was quite successful, Gryffindor plus a point!"
The eyes of everyone in the class moved to Ginny Weasley.
The tail of the match in her hand has changed a little......
"Could it be that Voldemort's diary has the effect of a portable grandfather?" Jon touched his head after glancing at his match, which had not changed in any way.
......
After one lesson, there were four students who made the match change, and Jon Hart was the fourth of them.
He just made the tail of the match slightly sharper, and Ginny Weasley made the whole match appear as a prototype of a needle...... Professor McGonagall was overjoyed and gave Gryffindor another point for her.
This made Jon a little depressed, not because he wasn't in the limelight or because he was a bonus...... You know, he knows the entire "Elementary Transfiguration Guide" by heart, and most of those students haven't opened the textbook before the start of school.
In fact, he already knew the entire theory of the spell "Akus...... The root cause of his failure was that he had difficulty sketching a picture of the needle in his mind and overlapping it with a match.
There's no time to feel sorry for yourself, though, because Charms class is about to begin.
The Charms class was located in the left-hand hallway on the fourth floor, and when Jon arrived with the Hufflepuff crowd, he found it full of Ravenclaw students.
The short Professor Filius Flitwick had to stand on a stack of books to reach the lectern...... Before he starts his class, he takes out the roster and takes his name.
This year's class didn't have a big shot like Harry Potter, so it didn't surprise him.
Like Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick spent half of the class emphasizing the importance of Charms lessons...... Then he demonstrated the Crushing Charm, the Repair Charm, and the Flying Charm in public.
Professor Flitwick then taught them how to cast a "hover charm", a spell that allows items to stay in the air for a few seconds.
And, Flitwick claims that if the vast majority of the students in the class could easily master the spell, they would be taught a more advanced, esoteric, and useful "Levitation Charm"!
In half a class of practice, none of the two houses were able to successfully unleash the Hover Charm, including Jon.
Although Flitwick reassured them that the Hovering Charm required a lot of practice, and with so many classes of students he had with him, only a few of them were able to successfully master it in the first lesson......
But on the way to the restaurant, Jon was still disappointed.
As in Transfiguration, he had already figured out all the theories of the Hovering Charm, or even the advanced version of the Levitation Charm, but it was difficult to put it into practice......
The first morning at Hogwarts was obviously a bit bad for him!
