Chapter 19: The Potions Teacher (Part II)
"I'm sorry, Professor!" Jon said softly, looking down.
He knew he was in a bit of trouble right now...... Severus Snape was arguably the most difficult teacher to deal with in all of Hogwarts, and there was nothing good to eat if he offended him, not to mention that Potions was the one he was most interested in, and he didn't want to give it up at all.
"And what reason do you have, Mr. Hart?" Snape sarcastically said, "For example, before this lesson of mine, you went to repel a Dark Lord invasion of Hogwarts and were so late?"
The Slytherin students burst into laughter.
Jon hesitated to tell the reason for his tardiness...... Because he feared that stating the reason would make Snape feel that he was making excuses, and that he would be even angrier, so that he would be punished more severely.
"Professor Snape!" a Hufflepuff student in the back row stood up and shouted, "Jon was called by Professor Sprout after the herb class just now, so he was late......"
It was Zacharis-Smith who spoke.
Jon gave him a grateful look...... Excuses for this kind of thing, and having someone else say it for you and yourself can be a completely different result.
"Shut up, Smith!" Snape said coldly, "I should have reminded you that you need to raise your hand to speak in my class!" Hufflepuff deducted five points. ”
Zacharis's flushed face looked like he was going to fight Snape, but Steven Lucas, who was beside him, held him back.
Snape's indifferent gaze shifted back to Jon, "I'll confirm this with Pomona!"
Then he snorted coldly and motioned for Jon to come in.
Jon hurriedly walked into the classroom with the crucible in his arms.
Potions class requires two students in a group...... Hufflepuff and Slytherin students sat in pairs at opposite sides of the classroom.
In addition to being mortal enemies with Gryffindor's little lions, Slytherin Snakes also look down on Hufflepuff badgers, and they can also say a few words to Ravenclaw's eaglets...... Hufflepuff students, naturally, are not friendly to Slytherin.
The contradictions between these colleges have long been passed on to these first-year freshmen by word of mouth after the opening banquet.
However, the students of this class of these two colleges happen to be odd.
The Hufflepuff first-year students had already been paired up in pairs, and there were no empty seats, and in the last row of Slytherin sat a tall, clumsy-looking girl.
Jon had a slight impression of her, and seemed to be the last one in the sorting ceremony, Madeleine Yaxley?
It seems to be another dead second generation.
He had no choice, and was about to walk over when he was suddenly stopped by Snape.
"Stop, Mr. Hart!" Snape said calmly, "Miss Selwyn, go and form a pair with Miss Yaxley; ”
The Slytherin girl named Selwyn cleaned up her cauldron with an ugly look on her face and went to the last row...... Jon had to take his things and sit down in front of her, at the head of the Slytherins.
His partner, who happens to be an acquaintance:
Astoria Greengrass.
......
The Potions classroom was calm again.
Astoria didn't speak to him, and in fact no one dared to talk to him in Snape's lesson.
Jon took out Arseny Giger's Magic Potions and Potions, and opened the first page, the expression on his face not relaxing at all...... He didn't feel that his troubles were over.
Sure enough......
"Hart!" Snape suddenly spoke, "Tell me what you get when you mix Bad Blood Grass, Lone Grass and Sneezing Grass?"
"Confusion potion, Professor!" Jon, who had been prepared, stood up and replied calmly, "This potion, when consumed, can make people impatient and reckless. ”
That's a pretty good answer.
If it were any other teacher, I'm afraid that because of this answer, Hufflepuff would have been given at least five points...... But Severus Snape's face didn't change anything.
"What is the primary role of salamander blood in Potions?" Snape continued, "or what do we usually do with it?"
"Potion of Augmentation, Professor!" Jon continued, "The blood of the salamander is the main ingredient in the potion of potions, and it has the effect of enhancing the effects of other potions. ”
"Next question...... If I asked you to find me some white fresh, where would you find it?"
"The main sources of white fresh are China, the United States and Mexico...... So first I had to buy a ticket to East Asia or North America. ”
Several Hufflepuff students laughed, but as Snape glared at them, they immediately stopped laughing.
"White fresh generally grows on hilly slopes, in flat shrubs, or under grasslands or sparse forests......"
Snape pursed his lips and stared at Jon.
The Hufflepuff students around him, and even many of the Slytherin students, looked at him with surprise and even reverence...... Obviously, these questions and answers have not been touched by them at all.
"So, what do I get if I add daffodil root powder to a wormwood infusion?" Snape asked the next question.
This time, Jon frowned, and after thinking for half a minute, he spoke:
"I'm sorry...... I don't think I know, Professor!"
Snape glanced at his lips. He waved his hand and motioned for Jon to sit down.
"Together, daffodil root powder and wormwood can be used to make a very potent sleeping pill, which is a serving of life and death water!" Snape said coldly:
"A brilliant Auror, Gideon Prewit, died because of this potion, and one of his 'friends' sent him a bottle of licorice wine, and then secretly put daffodil root powder under his glass...... When the effects of the drug took effect, six Death Eaters came to the door and killed him and his brother...... If poor Gideon had been more serious about his Potions lessons, he would have been able to apparition out in time, even in the face of twelve Death Eaters!"
As he said this, a scornful smile appeared on Snape's lips.
However, he didn't press Jon further, and he didn't deduct points from Hufflepuff, and certainly didn't add points.
This relieved Jon.
"Why don't you write it all down?" Turning around, Snape let out a roar that startled all the students.
Then there was a rustle of fumbling with quills and parchment in the classroom.
