Chapter 288: Teachings
If you go up further, you will arrive at Manjujeong.
Wanshou Pavilion is an archway-style building, wood and stone structure, and Li Junge is most interested in its heavy eaves and gable-style roof, which is unique.
Everyone stopped to watch, there is "Fawang Temple Remembering Grace Tablet" in the middle of the room, the stele is more than three meters high, more than one meter wide, the stele is engraved with the word "Holy Decree", the inscription is the will of the Fawang Temple and the official's words of thanks at that time.
There is a carved wooden fence on the main floor. The back wall is painted with ink landscape figure paintings, and under the eaves is ** Kowloon hollow carving "Long live the current emperor, long live, long live, long live" tablet.
Li Junge was secretly amused, the word "today" was really used wonderfully.
The whole pavilion is cleverly conceived, the wood carving is exquisite, the painting is vivid, the architectural art is perfectly combined with the wood carving and painting, and the group is amazed to see it.
In the old time, I saw this holy decree tablet and the Nine Dragons tablet, which must be dismounted by civil officials and military attachΓ©s, and performed three kneels and nine bows.
Next, after the courtyard dam, the two compartments are wings, and in front of it is the main building of the Fawang Temple - the Daxiong Treasure Hall.
Master Guoshan introduced: "The main hall was rebuilt in the seventh year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, with a wood and stone structure, five rooms wide, three rooms deep, and a height of 15 meters. The treadway has seven levels, with a construction area of 575 square meters. β
The Buddha statue of Sakyamuni is enshrined in the Daxiong Treasure Hall, behind the Buddha statue is Guanyin, Manjushri and Puxian Bodhisattva, the statue is solemn and beautiful, and the artistic characteristics of the stone carving statue of Buddhism in southern Sichuan can be clearly seen.
The group saluted and offered incense again, and Li Junge continued to study ancient buildings.
In the eyes of Li Junge, the roof of this Daxiong Treasure Hall is a heavy eaves rest mountain style, four axes are tied before and after, and the structure is supported by four columns.
The roof is gray tile, the middle of the ridge is plastic beads and curly grass patterns, the two sides of the plastic dragon, especially the eaves and eaves pillar wood carvings of the main hall, such as the kissing beast, the drama character, the Rui beast, etc., the shape is exquisite and exquisite, it is breathtaking.
From the point of view of wood carving, between the vertical ridge and the bucket arch is a hollow wood carving, and the octagonal is warped and slender, giving people a sense of visual art of light and soaring.
I nodded secretly in my heart, when do I have to ask my mentor to come again, the ancient buildings here and the ancient buildings of Panao Township, the ancestral hall of Lijiagou echo each other, and the integration runs through the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, and it is very worth seeing.
Then there is the last hall of the Fawang Temple - the Tibetan scripture building, built in the 17th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty, the hard mountain roof, the brick and wood structure building, eight rafters, the center of the house is supported before and after, the common five columns, the face is wide and five rooms.
Master Guoshan led everyone to look at the scripture building, and said: "There is nothing to say about the scripture building in the general temple, the bright room is the hall, and the second room is the monk's house, and that's it." β
"But the scripture building of the Fawang Temple was built to worship the 'Qin Ci Longzang', which is not ordinary. β
"The Dragon Canon, also known as the Qianlong version of the Tripitaka, is the only Chinese version of the Tripitaka issued and printed by the imperial court in the Qing Dynasty. β
Because the engraving was initiated by Yongzheng, it was not completed until the Qianlong period, and it went through two generations of emperors, so it was named. The use of engraving printing instead of movable type printing is also a sign of solemnity and hope to pass on for a long time. β
"The Dragon Canon, a total of 724 letters, 7,168 volumes, are stored in these 12 canon cabinets. β
Li Junge looked at it, carved on the cabinet of the five-clawed dragon auspicious clouds, highlighting the royal grace and elegance of the rich atmosphere, but appeared in this remote mountain town, combined with the vivid shape carved on the pillar and the fan in this palace, with the typical Sichuan opera eyelid spectrum art characteristics of the drama character story painting, the taste of which is also worth savoring.
After looking at the scripture building, the group came out of the Daxiong Treasure Hall again.
Master Guoshan led the way and led the group to the meditation hall to drink tea.
In addition to the cups, the full set of tea sets is a coal sander, which is very distinctive.
Li Junge was surprised and said, "Master Guoshan, your tea set is quite chic." β
Master Guoshan smiled: "I can also be regarded as adapting to local conditions, a specialty of Baimi Township under the mountain." β
Lighting the pine cone carbon in the charcoal stove, Master Guoshan burned a small jar of mountain spring water in a coal sand jar, then took out a bamboo tube, picked up a bamboo chip, scooped out some tea leaves from it and put it into a small sand pot with a lid.
When the spring water began to bubble with fish eyes, Master Guoshan poured hot water into the teacup, closed the lid, and set up several small white porcelain cups to distribute tea to everyone.
The room was full of fragrance, Guoshan brought the tea to everyone, Li Junge took a sip and praised: "It's delicious! What kind of tea is this?"
Master Guoshan said with a smile: "We are in the same vein of Fawang Temple, advocating the unity of agriculture and Zen, and the tea is planted by ourselves, picked by ourselves, and fried by ourselves, and even the pine cones that burn the tea are also burned by ourselves, including the daily rice and vegetables of our five monks, all of which are planted by ourselves." β
Li Junge praised: "This is the real cultivator! The rules of your Fawang Temple are also in line with our Confucianism, 'the four bodies are not diligent, the five grains are not divided, who is the master?' hahaha, Confucius also asked the old peasants about the way of harvesting. β
After speaking, his brain opened up and thought of a question: "By the way, Master Guoshan, I have always had a question that I don't understand, and I can't inquire if I haven't met a real monk, but I will remember it again when I meet you." β
Master Guoshan smiled: "You say." β
Li Junge plucked his head and said: "First of all, it's not rude, it's purely curious, I just want to ask, if this egg has not been fertilized, then it shouldn't be considered life, right? Then eating it shouldn't be considered killing, in this way, can people in Buddhism eat eggs? There are also milk, goat's milk, is it okay?"
Just listen to grandma, father and mother reprimand together: "Nonsense!" "Nonsense!" "Hurry up and apologize to the master!"
Master Guoshan laughed and waved his hand: "Piwa asked this question very well, you good believers should also listen to it." β
After speaking, he added a cup of tea to everyone, and said patiently: "Regarding whether a monk can eat eggs, there was a debate on this issue as early as the Jin Dynasty. I can only tell you about it based on my spiritual experience. β
"First of all, what is the principle of not killing, in the Buddhist scriptures and precepts, the Lord has made it very clear that the Buddha's disciples who hold the vow of 'not killing' are compassionate to all sentient beings. β
"Remember, not killing is the means of discipline, and cultivating the 'great compassion' of compassion for all sentient beings is fundamental. β
"In ancient times, the Sangha practiced and practiced the almsgiving system, and when the alms were sold, the fasting master ate whatever he offered, and there was no distinction. At present, Theravada Buddhist countries such as Thailand and Ceylon still maintain the dervishes system. β
"The monks in Mahayana Buddhist countries, such as China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, etc., no longer hold bowls. However, in ancient times, materials were scarce, so they could not be picky, so Sanjing meat could be eaten as a last resort. β
"The three pure flesh means not to kill, not to smell, not to kill for me, and this is what the ordinary fasting masters offer. Sometimes, because he was practicing in the mountains, there was always a lack of food, so the Buddha added two more: one was 'bird remnants', that is, birds and beasts ate leftover animal meat, and the other was 'self-death', which was their own death. Collectively known as the 'Five Pure Meat'"
"Remember the second concept, the premise of eating 'five pure meats' is 'last resort'. β
"According to legend, Emperor Wu of Liang read the "Lenga Sutra", Jingyun 'Bodhisattva is merciful and compassionate, and he can't bear to eat the flesh of all living beings', he was very moved when he read it, and he vowed to eat vegetarian food. He was the great protector of Buddhism, and promoted the 'vegetarian diet' with the respect of the emperor, so he soon influenced the entire Chinese Sangha. This movement was carried out very successfully, and it was accepted not only by Buddhist disciples but also by lay believers, forming this characteristic of Chinese Buddhism. β
"Remember, there's another key word here, 'unbearable'. β
Next we talk about meat and vegetarian, meat does not refer to meat, meat has a separate word, called "fishy", the "Sanskrit Net Sutra" is more specific: "If the Buddha is not allowed to eat five xin." Garlic, green onions, green onions, orchid onions, and Xingqu are the five spices", and meat is these five vegetables. This is because Buddhism abstains from all carnal enjoyment, and vegetables with a strong smell are also a type of enjoyment, so it is necessary to abstain. As the saying goes, 'don't get fishy' is actually talking about two kinds of precepts. β
"With these concepts in mind, let's talk about the Dharma, what is the root of the Dharma? It is to protect the 'pure mind', the 'equanimity', the 'great compassion'. β
"Going back to the question of eggs and milk, eggs are produced by chickens, and milk is produced by cows to feed calves. β
"Although the chickens may forget after laying the eggs, and the cows themselves don't know what the milk is used for, but because of 'me', 'can't bear it', I still don't eat it. β
Since we understand that the purpose of abstaining from the five sins is to abstain from physical enjoyment, it is obvious whether we should eat these later things. β
Li Junge said: "I understand, the 'Shen Du' in the classics of the sages, and the family motto of the Li family 'respect the ancestors, but think about their own affairs', have something in common with the truth you said to the master. β
Master Guoshan nodded in satisfaction and said, "Hahaha, it's really easy to talk to you! Just now, on the other hand, if a Buddhist goes to study whether unfertilized eggs are alive in order to be able to eat eggs and milk, and whether drinking milk is considered fishy, this in itself is already completely contrary to the purpose of cultivating 'great compassion'." β
After speaking, he waved his hand to his grandmother and sons: "Of course, these are just my own requirements for myself, I will not forcibly ask the believers to abstain from meat, if they fail to cultivate, and forcibly keep the precepts, they will give birth to 'resentment', which is not only not progress, but a great regression." β
Grandma and Liangzi are both good.
Master Guoshan then said to Li Junge: "The Mahayana scriptures advocate that everything can be changed through power. If we don't have a high level of power and wisdom to apply to others, how can we promote the Dharma and benefit all sentient beings?"
"Therefore, to propagate the Dharma and benefit sentient beings, we must 'observe the opportunity' and understand the root nature of the times and sentient beings. This is also the reason why I pay attention to current affairs and the development of your Li Jiagou. β
