Section 20 Squalor and Fear
A person in a fearful environment will hold his breath. Pen & Fun & Pavilion www.biquge.info
When I go to the toilet, I hold my breath for fear of smelling the smell.
So, naturally, the two are linked.
It can be inferred from this that Boy S was in the same state of mind when facing the sudden clutter of people at home as when he went to the toilet.
It is because of a blocked nose that causes shortness of breath.
You can't inhale deeply and then exhale deeply.
You can't shout out loud to dispel the fear in your heart and bravely protect your mother.
This seems to confirm the bold speculation made earlier: when a person is faced with dirty water, he breaks through and closes his eyes to escape; The result is instead stained; Probably because of a "syncope" experience.
S faces external threats, due to nasal congestion (psychogenic or external obstacles), the head may faint due to lack of oxygen, and cannot use its instincts to dispel fear; As a result, these fears lingered in his mind.
So, his courage can only be expressed in dreams.
As mentioned earlier, he suddenly bounced up in his sleep, pointed at the air and roared.
This syncope or hallucination, caused by severe psychogenic breathing blockage, can cause a blind spot or disconnect in his memory.
That is - fear of tomorrow.
Because after he woke up from syncope, it might have been a new day, but the image of fear before he fainted remained in his mind.
This fear of tomorrow became the source of his anxiety about the future.
So one can only rush to enjoy it in advance; Thinking repeatedly, trying to grasp everything; Because of the fear that tomorrow will be lost. And the sustained, creative forward momentum is lost.
The reason why people with depression sometimes feel that their happiness is suddenly interrupted and they have no motivation to move forward is also because of this state of mind that they are afraid of tomorrow.
Because it is impossible to break through the shackles of "tomorrow", happiness cannot be continuous; All pleasures are concentrated in one point, and they cannot be consumed by him; So sometimes he unintentionally suppresses or even denies his own happiness.
On the other hand, fear of tomorrow has another meaning: when it's time to sleep, he can't sleep, or he doesn't dare to sleep.
When he has a confused mind or a headache due to confusion, he always deliberately wants to sleep when he shouldn't sleep, and then imagines that when he wakes up, his mind will be smooth.
It's a kind of "breathing" that is almost interrupted. If you have enough tandem ability, you should be able to deduce that this is the 5% causative factor I mentioned earlier.
He should keep this headache up, turn the "breathing" into a continuous, slowly eliminate the headache, this is the norm.
Even if he wakes up from sleep and his head doesn't hurt, it's a pathology. Because that becomes an interruption of "breathing". Further, it is the interruption of memory, creating a kind of hollowness.
Here, please don't absolutize the "interruption of breathing".
If you can connect all the analysis links, you can see that this is almost all the problem:
He tries to use "sleep" to escape the changes that have happened in his home, and to seek a kind of compromised tranquility.
It's like a person with a mental illness who is always ashamed of the moment when the symptoms occur and always deliberately wants to erase them.
In fact, he only needs to face it squarely and remember where his instinctive resistance at that time is hidden, and the problem will no longer exist.
I can even make a bold guess that S's obsessive-compulsive order disorder comes from the impression of "chaotic steps" that remains in his mind. Therefore, order must be maintained exaggeratedly. Trying to repair the sense of security that was destroyed after the chaotic crowd broke into his home.
There is also a consequence: the outside crowd suddenly breaks into S's house, threatens his mother, and is stopped by some kind of accident, which will distract him from his love and security for his mother very secretly.
Invisibly transferred to those "intruders".
The love and security that caused him to be scattered in the future must be constantly proven and recognized by others before he can get it.
This mechanism is actually not difficult to understand.
It's like a person who was originally very brave, but because of an accident, his natural courage was hindered.
So there was a compromise with the person who violated his mother.
As if begging for mercy, "Please don't hurt my mother, we are so pitiful......"
This kind of compromise seems normal in everyday life, when the weak meet the strong.
But the patient's degree of compromise is far beyond ordinary people, and this compromise is the most primitive compromise for him.
So, it was originally with deep love for my mother and the courage to protect her.
All of a sudden, it became a compromise.
Personality is invisibly biased in favor of the "aggressor" rather than against the "aggressor".
Therefore, his love and courage will also turn from his mother to "aggressor", from unintentional to intentional.
In the future, you must continue to be proven and recognized by others, so that you can get love and security.
If he is asked to fight against the strong in the future, it will be extremely nervous and fearful.
Because part of his personality has already compromised and adhered to the other person.
To fight against the strong, first of all, is to fight against yourself.
It is a confirmation of a common saying: grow the ambition of others, destroy your own prestige.
He will think too much about the strength of the other person and absorb it as part of himself.
The result: the other side is almost fatally invincible; Their own resistance is too small; Almost doomed; There is no point in confronting someone else.
Therefore, if a person wants to have the strength to fight the strong, it is best to calm himself down completely, return to the moment when he first met his mother, and not be subject to any hints from the outside world, whether it is pity, praise or intimidation.
There is a digression here: when people face the threat of death from the outside world, there are three outcomes: one is to exert instinct and resist normally; second, the instinct is accidentally blocked, resulting in mental illness; The third is the most serious - madness.
The instinct is severely blocked, resulting in the complete suppression of the subconscious instinct for love and courage; Completely compromised and absorbed the other party's momentary act of death destruction, and suddenly poured into consciousness.
Therefore, it can be understood that the grotesque symptoms of those insane people are a kind of deformed willingness to resist the threat of death.
It's like a person facing a gun, if he becomes too aware of the danger too early and forgets about instinctive resistance, the mind will be grossly deranged. This confusion is one way to alleviate excessive fear.
Because he has completely compromised with the other party invisibly, absorbing the other party's momentary death and destruction behavior as a part of the self, self-sabotage.
In other words: it is as if only by giving his personality completely to the other person, and when the self is combined with the other person's serious destructive aggression, can he not see the other person who is extremely frightened by him, and the other party will not threaten him. But it has become self-sabotaging.
It is also because of this self-sabotage that the other party is in danger.
Therefore, crazy people generally do not recognize people.
In a sense, the madness of the madman has its existential justification.
Because he avoided the dangerous psychology prematurely and avoided some possibility of death. ("Delusion of victimization" is similar.)
Otherwise, it is necessary to dare to face and fight against the threat of death.
(This must be "extracted" from the impression of death threat that he once "fits" and face it again.) But it is necessary to use instinctive energy to combat this threat, not to avoid it too soon.)
To make a similar analogy: a normal person who drives a car, as long as he obeys the traffic rules, believes that there will be no accidents.
But some people not only think about whether they follow the rules, but also think too much about whether others follow the rules, and put their lives at risk.
Because of this, this pathological psychology of crazy people who prematurely guess the danger has even triggered the superstition of normal people.
This can be seen in the social phenomenon of those who take the mad man for a prophet.
Or like a person with a withdrawn pathological personality, watching war scenes on TV.
He often imagines himself as the one who is being tortured and killed, and focuses too much on the fierce aggression of the stronger side, as if those possibilities are happening to him, and his resistance is too small.
Only by first being ignorant can the thinking not be too confused.
He will only concentrate on his instinctive defensive drive, rather than delving into the ferocity of the opponent.
In case you don't know, this over-nervousness and fear of your opponent is just a subtle compromise with someone who describes how powerful your opponent is.
This description is what we called "accidental reminders" earlier.
Just like in the previous example of the S man, the cousin's meaningful smile made S realize his father's violence for the first time.
This premature compromise can also lead to the patient's speech confusion.
They sometimes think of a strange word or sentence that doesn't make sense.
The reason is that their normal thinking is interrupted by premature compromise with their opponent, merging with their opponent's words at the time to form a logically confused phrase.
There is also a subtle psychology, which is also the product of personality fusion.
There is a mentally handicapped person A, and when he wants to do something, there happens to be another person B doing it.
He blurted out to himself, "Wait a minute." ”
This "wait a while" is easy to see that it is not appropriate for him to say it himself, but by another person, B.
It is precisely because his personality compromises and merges with the personality of the other that premature self-restraint is formed.
Back to topic:
This compromise mechanism is similar to the example of "closing your eyes and hiding from dirty water" from the previous example.
There are also two symptoms that are also related to breathing.
When he was young, when he was hit and hurt, he always used to cover himself in the quilt, let himself close to suffocation, and then suddenly open the quilt and spit it out in one breath.
Then you have the courage to face the difficulties in life.
When swimming and diving, he always dared not hold his breath, and always had to save his breath.
Because he thought of death at the last moment.
This is a kind of prototype of his later "death compulsion" and "depression".
From the above example, it is not difficult to see that symptoms and "breathing" are inseparable.
Hidden in the breath is the most primitive instinctive courage.
Whether courage is hindered or not is inseparable from whether it is happy or not.
When he went to the toilet, he didn't dare to breathe deeply, so some bloody fight scenes appeared in his mind as a way to express his courage.
This courage is a masculine trait.
It is also a deformed alternative to "facing excretion".
Facing up to excretion is not to force it, but to feel the joy and courage from it.
With this primitive characteristic, the aforementioned degenerative gratification, personality deviation, and disease cease to exist.
The premise, of course, is that he recovers these masculine memories.
There is also a very secret emotion, which may be easier to understand the connection between "dirty" and "fearful", and further, with "depression".
That's the smell when it's a nice day, and it suddenly rains, and the rain soaks into the dirt
It can make him feel inexplicably depressed and depressed.
This memory was something he suddenly remembered and paid attention to after analyzing. Until then, it was an unsolvable mystery for him.
If we put aside the above analysis, it is impossible to analyze the cause of this sentiment alone.
Because this low mood and the smell of earth have nothing to do with it.
At best, one can vaguely reason: perhaps he once smelled this smell when something happened to him that saddened him. So touching the scene is emotional.
But this reasoning may never find a match for the facts. Even if it is found, it is not the only one.
But if you associate "dirt" with "excrement", you should naturally think that these two objects are so similar.
Then, in the above example, S is afraid to breathe out loud and exhale loudly in the face of excrement as he is in the face of his mother being violated. It leads to the loss of masculine qualities in one's own masculinity and depression.
If the word "excrement" in this sentence were replaced with "soil", the same result would be true.
In the final analysis, it is a matter of "breathing".
It is important to note that "breathing" is closely related to the contraction and expansion of the abdomen.
This is perhaps the closest thing to physiological instinctive happiness in psychology.
People with fear of heights, looking down from a high place, will have a sense of fear hanging in the air.
In fact, it is the lack of deep inhalation, which causes the abdomen to not expand normally, causing a hollow feeling.
This conclusion is derived from a strange game played by a patient as a child.
At that time, he liked to jump from a high place, feeling the air gradually inhaling and the abdomen gradually expanding; After landing, exhale, the pleasure of abdominal contractions.
That is, the pleasure of breathing. It's just that his breathing has been delayed and has become sick, and he can only use the fall to help him breathe.
It can also be understood in this way: the sudden explosiveness of obsessive-compulsive disorder, and the crazy expansion of ideals when a person is on a whim, are all because his breathing before this is in a very unnatural state of "micro-suffocation", and finally turns into a powerful air flow bursting out.
It is also because of this "breathing" that we can understand why patients are reasonable about some truths and how to interpret them, or they are unreasonable, causing confusion in their thinking.
The reason is that the "breathing" is too rapid to form a judgment on the truth.
Because there is no deep inhalation at all, there is no way to exhale deeply, and the truth is like that breath, which has not been fully "inhaled" and understood, how can it be judged?
It takes a deep inhalation and a deep exhale to have a complete answer.
Also, the reason why patients who are forced to examine one thing repeatedly is that they are always not at ease.
It's because his "breathing" is in a dilemma. There is no deep inhalation followed by deep exhalation to form a full cycle. So you can't do one thing at a time.
It is also because of the lack of "breathing" that his pupils are dilated and dissociated, causing him to be unable to concentrate on one thing.
Therefore, people with OCD should be cautious and should not be treated with disdain.
Because they checked it repeatedly, but they didn't really focus their eyes.
The smaller the matter, the more they care; But it was precisely that subtleties, going back to the distant past, that were the momentous events that endangered him and his mother.
It was also because of the instinctive suppression of that moment of rebellion that led to a huge change in his heart.
Extremely important and insignificant only in the difference of a thought.
It's like the subconscious of ordinary people: the mother is the most important person, so there is never a fear of leaving the mother. Because he unconditionally trusts that mother and child will never be separated, physically and mentally.
Not afraid to leave is a kind of "insignificant".
Another example: a cat catches a mouse, and he sometimes deliberately lets it go and catches it again.
Because catching a mouse is the most important instinct for him, he is not afraid that this instinct will disappear; And there will be no fear of losing mice.
So, the reason why the obsessive-compulsive person cares so much about things that seem trivial is that his most important instinct is suppressed.
Just keep your breath coherent, focus your gaze, and get that "insignificant" thing right.
Here, breathing is his most important instinct.
Rather than being hinted at by the outside world that the matter is so "insignificant" that there is no need to be so meticulous.
If he does, he will ignore it along with his most important instincts.
Even more secret: the "breath" and the hand are also connected.
According to the description of some people with mental disorders, in some cases, unintentionally pressing the hand on the abdomen and following the rate of breathing, will feel a sense of déjà vu, supreme pleasure.
It seems to be like a spring breeze and rain, dissolving all complicated pains.
This instinctive desire from the mouth to the hands can be reflected in infancy.
(Contraction and expansion of the mother's abdomen, pleasure transmitted to the baby through the umbilical cord)
After regaining this instinct, the patient finally begins to pay attention to his body, especially his hands.
I began to re-emphasize the ability of my hands and felt a sense of intimacy that I had not felt for a long time.
This intimacy has a very secret source: when I was a child, my mother said to her child: "Baby, where are your hands?" Where are the feet? ”
The body and heart begin to integrate. Before that, the mind and body were in a morbid, divided state. (This will be explained in the next chapter, "The Mother's Breath": Mother and child are physically and mentally connected, representing mental health; Otherwise, it's pathological.)
Some obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) behaviors that are difficult to suppress are mostly hand-related.
For example, the more common male "SY" is because of the symbol of their hands as female genitalia.
In himself, he realized the pathological "differentiation" of men and women, self-satisfaction.
It is precisely because of the forgetfulness of his opponent's desires that he is extremely sensitive and does not dare to touch many normal things with his hands.
Later in the evolution, the desire for the hand represents an ability to create happiness; the ability to work; A physiology that replaces excessive contemplation.
"Breathing" is even connected to the feeling of the skin.
In the following chapters on the skin, you will learn that the "exhalation" and "inhalation" of "breathing" have a secret connection with the expansion of the skin when it is hot and the contraction of the skin when it is cold.
And sometimes the warmth of the weather is related to psychological symptoms.
At this point, I can finally say responsibly: "All psychological analysis is concentrated here." ”
And there will never be a "analysis of this, the root cause seems to have been found", and then the problem will take another form.
Of course, that's not a trick or a contradiction, it's just a natural growth.
It's just that this natural growth has now been more concrete and clear with the human body and mind.
As long as man is alive, the breath is eternal, and it is all the while.
And mental health is just a matter of breathing deeply.
Therefore, it is common to instruct others to take deep breaths to relieve tension and stress.
But no one ever thought that simple deep breathing could cure all extraordinarily complex psychological conditions.
It's incredible.
This concept can only be understood by deconstructing all the complex and obscure symptoms and focusing on the breath.
If you don't, "take a deep breath" is just "take a deep breath." It's just hearsay, or a temporary measure taken out of desperation, and then forgotten. without any meaning.
Another example is what psychologists often call "vipassana therapy": the belief that as long as you quietly pay attention to the evolution of symptoms, you can make them disappear.
If people with mental disorders do this, they may achieve this miraculous effect.
The instructor may then feel relieved that Vipassana solves all psychological problems.
It's a good wish.
However, for people with mental illness, it is far from that simple.
Because although the symptoms have been eliminated, the feeling is so incredible, and the doubts are even better than the ease after the symptoms disappear.
And it feels weightless and down-to-earth, without inevitability; to think that this upturn is always only temporary, coincidentally; That memory of illness is still ingrained.
Just like they sometimes listen to music and play chess, which can also alleviate symptoms.
Thought it was just a temporary metastasis and never thought the disease would go away forever.
It comes down to the lack of a memory match.
I don't understand which familiar moment in memory is quietly "vipassana"; That is, "vipassana" can only be regarded as a superficial method; It's like a crutch that can be replaced at will.
And it doesn't always work.
Back to the topic: all psychological problems have been focused on the point of "breathing" though. But it is also necessary to find a memory that matches it, so that the patient can have a sense of intimacy and familiarity, and truly accept it from the heart.
So, the next step is just to understand the meaning of "breathing" a little more deeply and essentially.
