scp-034 scp-035
Item No: SCP-034
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-034 is to be kept in a guarded room with access restricted to Level 4 personnel. SCP-034 itself is to be kept in a locked container under 24-hour surveillance. SCP-034's protective sheath is not to be removed under any circumstances when not in a laboratory setting. Any personnel who come into contact with SCP-034 are to be observed for 24 hours until their identity is confirmed.
Description: SCP-034 is a primitive knife made of pure obsidian. Testing has shown that SCP-034 is approximately 1000 years old. Despite its crude and aged, SCP-034 remains extremely sharp and requires no maintenance at all. Expert analysis hypothesizes that SCP-034 may have originated in South America and was used in indigenous ceremonies. This hypothesis is supported by several descriptions of Spanish conquistadors from the βββββββββ region, including detailed accounts of how βββββ priests skinned sacrifices alive with similar knives and draped them over their bodies as a sacrifice to the gods.
SCP-034 has the ability to injure the wielder into the appearance of another person. If SCP-034 is used to cut a piece of skin from a living person, and that piece of skin is attached to the skin of another person, the latter will not only take on the appearance of the former, but will also have all of the former's physical characteristics. Tests have shown that the minimum amount of skin required can be as low as one (1) square centimeter. However, tests have likewise shown that the duration of appearance is directly proportional to the amount of skin used. The ratio of appearance duration to skin dosage has been measured to be approximately one (1) hour per square centimeter. Once the time limit has been exceeded, affected individuals will revert to their original state.
Analysis of SCP-034's abilities has shown that it mimics another human being with little flawlessness. SCP-034 alters not only physical appearance, but also actual physical characteristics, including height, weight, muscle weight, bone density, hair growth, vision, strength, injuries, and even DNA. Subjects will retain their original personalities and memories. Although the process of transformation takes only a few seconds and is almost instantaneous, subjects describe the process as extremely painful. Subjects may also suffer from psychiatric trauma depending on the degree of physical changes. Side effects will be particularly intense if the subject gains the appearance of a person of the opposite sex or with extremely different physical characteristics.
However, in order for SCP-034 to have its skin cut off properly, individuals whose skin has been cut off by SCP-034 must remain biologically alive in order to maintain their (disguised) appearance. If the identity of the stolen individual dies, the effect will immediately disappear. See Laboratory Report 034A for more details. At the same time, SCP-034 appears to only work on human subjects. Cross-species experimentation with SCP-034 resulted in [DATA EXPUNGED]
SCP-034 was acquired by the Foundation after an impostor posing as Dr. βββββββ attempted to infiltrate Site ββ. The impostor was arrested after the authorities found the real Dr. βββββββ, whose right arm had been stripped of a large patch of skin, tied up in his home. See Post-Trial Report 2211 for more details.
Lab Report-034A: We have decided to test several hypotheses about the limits of SCP-034's capabilities.
*Test 1: Samples taken from human cadavers and applied to Subject D-452. There is no effect.
*Test 2: Samples taken from D-532 and applied to D-452. D-452 successfully mimicked D-532's appearance. Upon termination, D-452 immediately reverted back to his original form.
*Test 3: Samples taken from a brain-dead patient and applied to Subject D-452. D-452 successfully mimicked the patient's appearance and managed to maintain it.
*Test 4: A sample of Subject D-452 was taken from a dying patient and applied. D-452 successfully mimicked the patient's appearance and illness. D-452 reverts to his original form after the death of the dying patient and D-452 at the same time. (D-452 has worked hard, rest in peace)
*Test 5: [DATA ERASURE]
Post-Trial Report 2211:
In accordance with standard operating procedures, we first try to interrogate prisoners in a non-violent and non-traumatic manner. But when these methods proved ineffective, we began to implement traditional interrogation techniques. Despite some success, we believe that the use of SCP-βββ, SCP-βββ, SCP-βββ, and SCP-βββ is necessary. We succeeded in learning the following facts:
*The prisoner possesses a great deal of knowledge about the existence and inner workings of the Foundation.
*The prisoner has a great deal of knowledge about other SCP-related institutions and organizations.
* The prisoner does not act in the official context of any government agency.
*The prisoner received instructions on SCP-034 and how to use it from an unknown sponsor.
*The prisoner was given very specific instructions to infiltrate Site-ββ and maintain the status quo until further instructions.
*The prisoner has enough samples of Dr. βββββββ to spend ββ days at Site-ββ.
Unfortunately, the prisoner did not survive the trial. βAgent ββββββ
Item Number: SCP-035
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-035 is to be kept in a sealed glass container no less than 10 cm (4 inches) thick. The container must be kept in a steel-clad lead-shielded chamber at all times. The door is triple locked at all times, and only special personnel are allowed to enter and exit. Two or more armed guards must be present at all times. Guards must be outside the room at all times, and are not allowed inside the containment room under any circumstances. A trained psychologist must be assigned to the site at all times. Researchers are not to touch -035 at any time, and must move it to a new sealed container every two weeks. The previous storage container was to be exposed to SCP-101 until the adverse effects of SCP-035's "corrosion" had completely subsided. Any personnel who come into contact with a host occupied by SCP-035 are to undergo a psychological evaluation immediately upon contact.
Description: SCP-035 appears to be a white ceramic comedy mask, which at times transforms into a tragedy mask. During these events, all existing visible records, such as photographs, video sequences, and even portraits, automatically reflect SCP-035's new appearance.
A viscous liquid with highly corrosive and degenerative properties is constantly oozing from SCP-035's eyes and mouth. Any object that comes into contact with this substance will slowly decay over a period of time, depending on the material, until the object has completely decomposed to its original contaminant. Glass appears to be the slowest to respond to this substance, and is therefore chosen as the current storage container. Living organs that have come into contact with the substance react in the same way, and there is no possibility of recovery. The source of the liquid is unknown. This liquid can only be found on the front side of the mask, not on the other side of the mask.
Subjects who are 1.5-2 meters (5-6 feet) away from SCP-035, or who have visual contact with it, will feel a strong urge to put it on. When SCP-035 is placed on the face of an individual individual, an alternative brainwave derived from SCP-035 will be applied to the host, rapidly killing the subject's brainwave and causing brain death. Subject later claimed that consciousness was controlled by SCP-035. The body of the "enchanted" subject will degrade at a high rate of speed, eventually resembling a mummified corpse. Despite this, SCP-035 has demonstrated the ability to maintain cognitive control over a body that has undergone severe structural damage, even if the subject's body is unabashedly decomposed to the point where even mechanical action is impossible. No effect was found when placed on the animal's face.
Conversations with SCP-035 have proven to be informative. Researchers have been informed of information related to other SCPs, as well as their general history, and SCP-035 has claimed to have been involved in a number of significant events. SCP-035 displays a highly intelligent and charismatic personality, and appears amiable and flattering when conversing with others. SCP-035 has achieved a 99% ranking in all intelligence and aptitude tests, and appears to possess photographic memory.
However, psychological analysis has revealed that SCP-035 is highly manipulative, and is capable of forcing sudden and profound changes in the visitor's state of mind. SCP-035 has proven to be very brutal, with verbal solicitations suggesting suicide (see Interview Log 035 for details) or transforming people into almost thoughtless slaves. SCP-035 has been shown to possess knowledge of how the human mind works, and claims to be able to alter the minds of all people if given enough time.
Miscellaneous: SCP-035 was discovered in the sealed cellar of an abandoned house in Venice in 18ββ.
Addendum 035-01: SCP-035 has been found to be capable of occupying all humanoid objects, including plastic mannequins, corpses, and statues. SCP-035 is capable of accomplishing all of the above actions, which eliminates the need for SCP-035 to be attached to living creatures. However, all objects it occupies are inevitably corrupted to the point of immobility.
Addendum 035-02: SCP-035 has promoted an escape attempt, convincing several researchers to help it fight for its freedom. All personnel who come into contact with SCP-035 have been terminated, and all personnel who are about to come into contact with SCP-035 have been subjected to mandatory psychiatric evaluation.
Addendum 035-03: It has been determined that SCP-035 possesses psychic stresses, and whether or not it occupies the host, it can even penetrate the subconscious minds of others and use the information it finds to its advantage. Extreme care is required when selecting subjects to communicate with SCP-035.
Addendum 035-04: SCP-035 has expressed interest in other SCPs, notably SCP-517 and SCP-682. Dr. ββββββ expressed concern that SCP-035 should be cut off from contact with other SCPs, as their regenerative properties negate bodily decay and provide a permanent host.
Addendum 035-05: After several escape attempts and a review of SCP-035's event logs, SCP-035 was highly ordered to be permanently sealed within the facility and denied access to all hosts. Some people have expressed opposition to this, and it has even turned into violent protests. As a direct result, all personnel who came into contact with SCP-035 have been terminated. In the future, all personnel handling SCP-035 are to be replaced frequently in shifts, and contact with it is to be limited, even when it is dormant.
Addendum 035-06: Individuals within 10 meters of SCP-035 have recently reported feeling uneasy, describing their ability to hear incomprehensible whispers. Several others suffered from severe migraines. SCP-035 has been monitored, but no changes have been observed in its dormant behavior, and no sound waves have been recorded.
A proposal to reinstate SCP-035's hosting privileges has been proposed once, but only on a temporary basis, in order to explore new changes in the subject's behavior. (Denied)
Addendum 035-07: The walls of SCP-035's containment chamber suddenly begin to secrete a black substance. Testing of the substance has shown it to be human blood, albeit highly contaminated with several unknown foreign media. The substance is corrosive, with a pH of 4.5, and prolonged exposure to walls has been shown to damage its structural integrity.
More notably, it seems to form patterns on the walls. Some of the fragments appear to be written in different languages, including Italian, Latin, Greek, and Sanskrit. Translations are awaiting. Other fragments appear to be ritually sacrificed and destroyed illustrations, usually by people seeking arcane gain. Several staff members were shocked and took notes, as all of the offerings had a bizarre resemblance to various types of people and their loved ones, often in opposite locations.
Researchers examining the newly formed patterns in the room have complained of hearing loud whispers at irregular intervals, as well as disturbing laughter in a high-pitched pitch.
The daily staff of the area adjacent to the SCP-035 containment facility have suffered a catastrophic demoralization blow, and the suicide rate of the staff in the area is at an all-time high, regardless of whether they have been in contact with SCP-035 or not.
The only change in SCP-035's dormant behavior is its glass container. The rate of decay of the container has increased enough to allow the glass to occasionally fall off, causing SCP-035's contaminants to spread widely. This tends to happen at the most inopportune time, resulting in six injuries and three deaths among researchers and clean-up crews so far.
Addendum 035-08: Due to the demoralization of the area caused by the high number of suicides/homicides of members of the translation team who collected articles from SCP-035's containment chamber, as well as the usual losses that result in insanity or death of staff members when handling SCP-035, it has been decided to use SCP-148 to cover the interior and exterior walls of its containment chamber, which has proven to be effective in containing SCP-132 (see Document 132-01 for details) and is likely to block the high negativity emitted by SCP-035.
Addendum 035-09: SCP-148 is in good condition, resulting in morale and suicide rates returning to pre-SCP-035 levels.
However, this substance seems to promote negativity in the interior, creating a veritable "greenhouse effect". Subjects in the room state that they immediately felt heavy feelings of unease, fear, anger, and ordinary frustration upon entry, and heard constant, near-inaudible whispers. Prolonged stays can lead to severe migraines and suicidal tendencies, bleeding from blood vessels near the eyes and in the mouth and nose, and general hostility towards others, while whispering increases to an almost deafening volume, interspersed with constant mocking laughter. Exposure to this environment for more than 3 hours causes subjects to inevitably fall into deep psychic hallucinations and attempt to harm themselves or others. Most speak Latin or Greek, despite the fact that some people did not speak the language at all.
The number of occurrences of blood in the form of words or diagrams increases disproportionately, the walls become chaotic, and at the same time the formations begin to cover each other. The substance has proven to be both difficult to clean and more corrosive than originally documented, with a pH of approximately 2.4. The basic judgment is that the current wall has a lifespan of only 2 months before it is renewed.
Containment of SCP-035 has become increasingly difficult, and debate has arisen over the resumption of its hosting privileges. (Denied)
Addendum 035-10: The walls, ceiling, and floor of SCP-035's containment chamber have been completely infiltrated with blood. All personnel entering and guarding the area must wear full CBC hazmat suits. Personnel have been appointed for ongoing cleaning.
Addendum 035-11: The level, intensity, and recurrence of this phenomenon in SCP-035's containment chamber have been raised to warning level. The containment chamber door will lock itself once personnel have entered, and will not be able to open for a period of time. Appendages that form in pools of blood often attempt to grab or injure nearby personnel. Vague apparitions began to appear on the staff. The electrical equipment has failed in the containment room, and the light cannot be turned on, but there is no physical reason why it stopped working, which forces those who enter the room to use non-electric light sources.
Cleaning measures had no noticeable effect on containment chambers, and the walls degraded at a high rate, forcing them to last up to a week before they needed to be replaced, although blood made it nearly impossible to do this properly.
SCP-035 may need to be moved to a new containment chamber, while the old containment chamber is sealed and removed from the rest of the facility.
