scp-041

Item No: SCP-041

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-041 is to be hospitalized in Bio-Research Area 12. Although it is not classified as Keter, once SCP-041's capabilities are expanded beyond containment, the risk of SCP-sensitive information being disseminated to the public will be too great and will necessitate regional isolation from the general public. Foundation personnel wishing to maintain the privacy of their thoughts are advised to remain outside of the red circle marked on the floor with SCP-041 as the center and a radius of fifteen (15) meters.

Having a "caregiver" in the room who watches television and concentrates on programming is beneficial to SCP-041's mental health. This allows SCP-041 to effectively "watch" television with the help of other people's minds. The best caregiver is a D-class with below-average intelligence and therefore no distraction or more than one line of thought at the same time. SCP-041 has used its abilities to force caregivers to watch programs they don't like, but this is not mind control. SCP-041's tastes vary between gore/homicidal movies (and even expressed interest in "sadistic films" (1)) to children's programs.

Description: SCP-041 is a male human believed to have suffered incurable damage to the central nervous system due to infection with a rare form of bacterial meningitis. While antibiotics have succeeded in clearing the infection, the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord have responded to the infection by disconnecting a large number of neurons that connect the central nervous system to the rest of the body. SCP-041 must rely on a ventilator to maintain breathing, a biventricular pacemaker to maintain the heartbeat, and a nasogastric tube to provide nutrition.

SCP-041 appears to be in a vegetative state. However, while SCP-041 is present, observers begin to realize that their thoughts, along with those of all other individuals within approximately 10 meters of SCP-041, are being transmitted in a partially audible manner. In addition to being a signal source, SCP-041 also has the ability to broadcast its thoughts to those present. Anyone who composes an idea with words will have to be transmitted to others within this range in the form of "audible language" that cannot be recorded by any known device (CORRECTION: see Addendum-01). The language that can be heard in the brain can be "heard" by any voice that the subject chooses to think of while thinking; The most common is the subject's normal sound (see Document-01).

Ideas and images about vision are also broadcast, but they cannot be simply received as in the case above. Image transmission works best when both the sender and receiver close their eyes, the sender concentrates on a single object that does not involve the environment or background, and the receiver has no conscious thoughts in his head. Communication between test subjects using visual images, especially those that are not rooted in memory but exist in the imagination, is often difficult. The sender often struggles to visualize a detailed object from a single angle, and the receiver often tries to fill in the missing information, resulting in the receiver seeing a different image than the one sent. The most difficult images to successfully transmit seem to be human faces, especially dynamic ones.

Despite being able to transmit its thoughts to others, SCP-041 is not very "talkative". Attempts to convince SCP-041 to reveal any information about its abilities have so far been inconclusive. SCP-041 is typically silent and does not respond to any direct attempts at communication. However, SCP-041 appears to have a sense of humor, as he occasionally inserts comments into other people's conversations.

Addendum-01: While researchers were ███████ ███████ recording audio with a digital recorder, a fellow researcher was replacing the television in SCP-041's room. When the TV is in an interfered frequency band, speech from an unknown source filtered out of white noise can be heard. Attempts to record the language that can be heard in the brain using white noise generators and recording equipment have yielded some results, but most of the voices are muffled, and the recorded sounds may or may not be speech, depending largely on personal understanding.

Addendum-02: "I've noticed that some people have used SCP-041 as a temporary 'she likes me/she doesn't like me' detector. It's one of the most shocking things I've ever heard. Are we protecting a project that threatens to destroy the world, or are we in the third grade of elementary school? —Dr. Klein

Document-01: Researcher's words: "You know, the first time I was in that room with Kent and Forty-One, I could hear people singing all the time. It was the voice of a little girl singing some kind of nursery rhyme. It wasn't a TV set, and it certainly wasn't a radio...... It's in our heads...... You know. So I thought, 'You know, if I'm stuck in bed and I can't do anything, I'm going to sing like a little girl.'" Then the voice came into my head: 'Hey, that's not me...... I haven't heard that tune. Then old Kent looked at me, his face white-washed...... You know. ”

Note: This occurred after SCP-239 was chemically rendered unconscious. No connection between the two SCPs has been confirmed.

Translations:

(1) Torture and murder film: the original text is "snuff", which may refer to snuff film, that is, a film that shoots the killing process; It may also refer to the 1976 film "Snuff", which was once promoted as a real sadistic film and was later debunked.

Item Number: SCP-043

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-043 does not require special containment, but is not recommended for use outside of experimentation. A turntable should be placed in the same room at all times for experimentation.

Description: SCP-043 appears to be a plastic replica of the Beatles' album "The White Album". However, a recent inspection found that there were no grooves on this record. However, regardless of the starting position of the stylus, the record can still be played from start to finish.

When the 29th song is played, the record does not play the track "Revolution 9", but instead stops spinning, and faint breathing can be heard. Sometimes entities that make breathing sounds will speak in a male voice. The entity answers questions and displays an encyclopedic knowledge of the music industry, music theory, and the gossip trivia of many bands and artists. However, the entity refused to answer questions regarding the Beatles or its own personal details.

Inside the outer packaging of the record, a small handwritten note was found that read:

Limited Edition: 1/1

Thanks, John!

Item No: SCP-042

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-042 is currently contained in Minimum Security Fence 12 at Bio-Research Area-32, and while SCP-042 does not appear to have shown any intention of escaping the containment facility, the necessary security measures are to be maintained around its containment procedures at all times. Previous attempts to maintain the vegetation in Fence 12 have so far failed. Despite the regular watering behavior, all land that SCP-042 appears and tramples on will turn into scorched earth. It is still uncertain what happened to the additional water, and the watering program has been terminated due to the lack of results and the potential for a great danger to the local water table. Surveys of local water levels and analysis of water samples will be conducted on a weekly basis.

Personnel interacting with SCP-042, including animal handlers, medical personnel, keepers, and guards, are to be subjected to a thorough search, which is to be conducted at the time of [DATA REDACTED] and when senior personnel enter Enclosure 12. Any personnel attempting to enter the enclosure with a weapon, or an item that could be used as a weapon, will be immediately [DATA REDACTED]. Personnel who have interacted with SCP-042 in any way are to undergo weekly psychological testing. All medical examinations of SCP-042's back wounds are to be monitored in close proximity in case of attempts to euthanize SCP-042.

Description: SCP-042 is an animal believed to be of the genus Equus, with white fur and a few brown spots. IT STANDS WITH A HEIGHT OF 183 CM (18 HANDS) AND WEIGHS UP TO 710 KG. Due to atrophy caused by lack of exercise and refusal to eat, its weight has decreased significantly since it was placed in Foundation custody. Despite being forcibly fed fluid food, 042 is still very emaciated. There are two large bony protrusions on 042's back, both of which are connected to the powerful musculature of its back (now atrophied). THE TWO PROTRUSIONS EXTEND FROM 042'S BACK TO ITS END AT A LENGTH OF 37 CM, AND ARE PROTRUDING FROM 2 JAGGED OPEN WOUNDS ON 042'S BACK. These two wounds have not been shown to heal to date, although it is theorized that blood clotting must have occurred inside, otherwise 042 would have died of blood loss.

SCP-042 appears listless, and has little to no reaction to any inflammatory behavior1 performed by trained trainers. If possible, SCP-042 will remain on the ground at all times, and will not attempt to eat, drink, or escape. Pain-response conditioning has proven that there is an effective way to get SCP-042 up and allow it to be cleaned, but in fact SCP-042 will always attempt to lie down again, even if it has lost consciousness, no matter how strong the force impact is.

Researchers have been divided on SCP-042's level of intelligence, with some believing that it is no more intelligent than other creatures of its genus, while others believe that SCP-042 may in fact be a sapient person. SCP-024 has been observed making eye contact with personnel entering Fence 12, most of whom describe this gaze as "pleading". SCP-042 has been involved in several accidents and injuries on various occasions, ranging from debris of equipment to the walls of its containment facilities. In the midst of controversy over its intelligence, these incidents are believed to be intentional on SCP-042's part.

Addendum: Dr. P██████ submitted a request to transfer SCP-042 to Biological Research Site 4 on █/██/19██, which was approved by O5-5. Dr. P██████ altered the shipping documentation and instructed that 042 should be transported by air rather than by armed guard on land. During the transport, Dr. P██████ subdued the pilot and took control of the aircraft, causing the plane to dive rapidly at a great angle, during which passengers and cargo experienced a state of weightlessness for nearly a minute until security personnel regained control of the aircraft and stabilized the aircraft. Between the time Dr. P██████ was tied up and the time the plane landed, 042 escaped its containment and kicked 2 security personnel to death in the cargo hold. Security footage of the cargo hold shows that SCP-042 approached Dr. P██████ and rubbed its nose against Dr. P██████'s face, during which time Dr. P██████ expressed great relief. However, when reinforcements arrived and sedation was subdued and contact was disrupted, Dr. P██████ fell into a catatonic psychotic state that he could not heal, and after hearing what he was doing, Dr. P██████ euthanized himself on ██/██/19██ while receiving Foundation medication.
