Chapter 777: Second Rank (I)

1.02 Virtue Attainments of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas

Commentary: The following scriptures speak of the various virtues of bodhisattvas, and those who want to learn Buddhism should learn these Mahayana bodhisattva paths.

The Bodhisattva's academic and moral achievements are known and admired by everyone, because "great wisdom is all accomplished", and great wisdom achieves liberation from Prajna, which is not superstition, let alone rigid kung fu, but is like a bead walking on a plate, lively and lively.

When we study Buddhism, we must not only understand the Buddhist scriptures, but also all the knowledge and skills in the world, be good children and parents at home, and be real contributors to society, so that we can be regarded as learning Buddhism.

can say that the Dharma is like a lion's roar, because the Bodhisattva has such an achievement, and the beasts and demons hear the evil and have their brains split.

"Famous in all directions" means that the reputation spreads far and wide. Everyone in the world seeks fame and fortune, "Fame and fortune are originally important in the floating world, how many people in the world can throw them?" "But fame and fortune are often difficult to achieve both, and one gain is lost to the other, which is the original law of the world. Since Pangu opened the world, how many people have sought fame, and how many prime ministers can be remembered today? Not to mention profit-seekers, how many rich people in history can you count? But why does the Bodhisattva have a name? That's where you go. This name is not something that a bodhisattva pursues, but a blessing that has been accumulated in many lifetimes, and it is all cause and effect. The reason why the great bodhisattvas can be famous in the ten directions is because of their heart to help the world, brave to the point of almost madness, and never fearless and shirking mentality, can we do it?

"Everyone is not invited, friends are at peace", you don't go to him for help, but he dedicates himself to sentient beings, what is more difficult is to be able to be friends and settle down, we even have our own family members do not hate each other It is very difficult, not to say that we can get along with friends and sentient beings in peace, without disgust. Why do we make people annoying? Because the virtue of one's own mental cultivation is insufficient, one should reflect deeply. If the troubles in your heart hang on your face all day long, how can you be "friendly and peaceful" with others? Therefore, we must read Buddhist scriptures carefully, with heart, and with reflection, this is the true recitation of sutras.

"The Three Jewels of Shaolong can make it endless", a bodhisattva with such cultivation can pick up the burden of the Three Jewels of Buddhism, Dharma and Sangha, and not cut off the Dharma.

"Subdue the demons and resentments, and control the foreign ways", this sentence is easy to understand, but the meaning is profound. There are four kinds of demons: the demon of affliction (the demon of desire), the demon of the body (the demon of the five yin), the demon of death, and the demon of heaven. People think that meditation is a path of cultivation, but in fact they are either in the demons of afflictions or in the various feelings of the demons of the body. The Zen patriarch also once said: If you don't have the heart to move, you are the heavenly demon, and if you don't have the heart to move, you are also the five yin demons: or if you can't get up, you are the demon of trouble, and if you can't get up at all, you are also the demon of trouble. Can you subdue these demons? In the "Diamond Sutra", it is said that "if you subdue your mind", it is the demonic karma of subduing your mind, greed, ignorance, ignorance, slowness, and suspicion.

When the Buddha was alive, there were 96 kinds of foreign paths, such as Brahman, Yoga, and Zoroastrianism, all of which still exist. Seeking the Dharma outside the heart, and seeking the Dharma outside of one's own heart is the outer way. Those who study Buddhism should also understand the outer ways in order to distinguish what is wrong. Shakyamuni Buddha had learned all kinds of foreign ways at the beginning, and he understood them all.

"Everything is pure, and it is free from the cover forever; The mind is always at peace, and there is no obstacle to liberation", the practicing bodhisattva has forever left the five covers and ten entanglements (greed, ignorance, doubt, regret, and sleepiness, a total of five covers: shame, shame, jealousy, sorrow, regret, sleep, dropping, drowsiness, anger, and repetition, a total of ten entanglements), the mind can be at peace, and it must be able to live forever, which is more beyond the state of concentration. If the spiritual light of one's own nature is covered with the so-called cover, it takes the bodhisattvas of more than seven places to truly leave the cover forever, and the occasional purity is not counted. The two ancestors of Zen Buddhism practiced kung fu so deeply, and they still had to say to the Bodhidharma patriarch that they were uneasy, which shows that it is really difficult to have peace of mind! Only when the mind is always at peace can we be free from troubles, desires, bodies, life and death, and be free from all kinds of covers. These advanced paths of practice are often carried out by the beautiful and plain text of this sutra, so be sure to pay attention to it.

"Reading, stabilizing, and always holding on, and arguing continuously", this paragraph must be broken in this way to make sense. Is there a correct understanding of this "mind"? Based on an incorrect understanding of Zen Buddhism, many people quote the six ancestors who said that "no thought is the sect", and they think that the purpose of Zen Buddhism is to seek no thought; I also think that when I meditate, I don't know anything and I am in a state of concentration, but in fact it is a great drowsiness. Such misunderstandings are not only serious, but also dangerous!

The Sixth Patriarch clearly said in the "Altar Sutra" that "there is no delusion for those who have nothing", which is equivalent to the undifferentiated mind of the doctrine; "The one who reads the truth is true". The thoughtlessness that the six ancestors spoke of is by no means drowsy! As mentioned earlier, when you reach the unhindered realm, you don't seem to feel your body anymore, but don't think that it's like falling asleep, the latter is drowsy. When meditating, you feel groggy and sleepy, don't think that this is pure, be careful that after sitting for a long time, your brain will deteriorate, your memory and understanding will become worse and worse, and you may have the tragic retribution of falling into the animal path. This is all unclear and thoughtless, and to such an extent it is not even worthy of the outer demon way.
