Chapter 1033: Don't Dare to Call Yourself Hearing Too Much (I)
"Ananda, if I say these three meanings, you will not be able to endure all your life." The Buddha told Ananda, if I were to tell you in detail what is the state of enlightenment, nurturing, and Buddhahood, how long would I have to say? Even if your lifespan is as long as the calamities of this world, you can't finish talking about one calamity, not only I can't finish it, but you can't accept it, and you don't understand it, and you don't even believe it.
"It is making the three thousand worlds, full of sentient beings, all like Ananda the first, and have to remember the total hold, and these people will not be able to bear the life of the calamity." Further, if all the sentient beings in the 3,000 worlds in the land of a Buddha are as knowledgeable and have a strong memory as you, Ananda, and even if the wisdom of all sentient beings is combined, the lifespan will be as long as the calamities of this world, and I will not be able to finish the attainment of the Buddha's enlightenment.
After the Buddha's death, Ananda recited it to the five hundred Arhats and became Buddhist scriptures, so the beginning of the scriptures says "If I hear it", it means that Ananda personally heard it.
The gathering of the 500 Arhats was the first "assembly", and they were not ordinary Buddha disciples, but all of them were accomplished.
The first assembly was to record the Buddha's life teachings, and it was presided over by the Buddha's great disciple, the Venerable Kasya, who had passed away by then.
These arhats are not sure whether they remember a single word well, only Ananda remembers. Ananda is the first to hear more, and he has to read the total hold, that is, he is good at learning and never forgetting.
The Sanskrit pronunciation of the mantra is dharani, which means total holding.
Each sound of the mantra contains a lot of meaning, so it is dharani. For example, reciting the phrase "Nam no Amitabha" is chanting a mantra, Nan Wu meaning is taking refuge, and Amitabha is immeasurable longevity.
When you read this sentence, you can really remember it, keep your mind undisturbed, work hard day and night, seven days and seven nights, and you can always hold the Fa.
Not only the memory of the Dharma, but also the memory of all the worldly Dharma, comes naturally, and the brain is naturally strong, which is what the Sixth Patriarch said, "the disciple always gives birth to wisdom in his own heart".
Young people who study Zen and Buddhism are not good at reading, nor can they memorize, and they also say that they are practitioners. Oh! In two sentences in ancient Chinese, "Who is bullying and deceiving the sky?" ”
Who have you deceived? No matter what you meditate on or what you cultivate, as long as your concentration increases, your wisdom will naturally increase day by day.
Many old Taoist friends should sigh that their memory has deteriorated, but if they really practice, they will not get worse when they are older, and they will not be able to maintain their memory if they have a bad memory.
Speaking of Ananda, when the first assembly was held, the Mahākāṇa did not allow him to participate, why? Although Ananda is smart and strong, he has not yet attained enlightenment, but all the 500 arhats have attained enlightenment.
Ananda was crying outside the door, and Mahakāṇa gave him seven days to become enlightened. The Mahakāya deliberately wanted to spur him on, because when the Buddha was alive, Ananda was a brother to the Buddha, and he was lazy and dependent, so he did not attain enlightenment.
But this time, Ananda was forced into a corner, and he was ashamed, so he worked hard, and when the seven-day deadline was up, he really realized that he was allowed to participate in the assembly.
"If so, Ananda, the Buddhas and Buddhas are infinitely infinite in their wisdom and reasoning." All enlightened people, his realm of great enlightenment, ordinary people only use speculation to understand, the realm of enlightenment is immeasurable, and the Buddha has no way to tell sentient beings who have not attained enlightenment.
When he became a Buddha, his wisdom was not thought of with his brain, but by the wisdom of ordinary people, like a machine squeezed out, it was knowledge rather than intelligence.
True wisdom is as the "Mean" says, "do not think, do not reluctantly", do not think, it comes naturally.
