Chapter 808: Eighteen Grades
This time, we will talk about the merits of the Vimal monks.
All of the above is about the attainment of virtue and the depth of the Tao. This is followed by an explanation of the merits of the Vimal monks.
"If you are among the elders, you will be respected among the elders, and you will be able to say that you are victorious." The so-called elders in Buddhism used to be the first of the four castes in India, and in the Brahmin class, the elderly and virtuous people were called elders. Later, Buddhism was introduced to China, and the elderly lay people had to have ten kinds of virtues, such as being old, learned, virtuous, and Taoist, so as to be called elders. Even among the many elders of the Brahmin class, Vimal monks are respected by the elders and teach them the higher methods of birth.
"If you are a layman, you will be respected among the laymen, and you will be judged from being greedy." The laypeople here do not refer to the elderly, but to ordinary laymen who are studying Buddhism at home. Vimal lay people are respected among the lay people, and most of the lay people are still greedy for the worldly Dharma and the causes and conditions of the world, and cannot be completely liberated. The Vimo layman's words to the layman can break the layman's greedy habits. The following narrative sentences are all about the same, so we won't go into details.
"If you are in the middle of the profit, you will be respected, and you will be taught to endure humiliation." Shakyamuni is the Kshatriya, one of the four classes in India, the ruler of the world on an equal footing with emperors and generals, second only to Brahmins, and Shakyamuni was born into the Kshatriya class. Most people who are good at martial arts will not endure humiliation, and it is a good virtue for those who are not brave to be able to endure, but it may just be a nest, and being brave and able to endure is the real forbearance.
"If you are a Brahman, you will be honored among Brahmins, and you will be slow except for yourself." Brahmins are a clerical class that still exists today.
"If you are a minister, you will be respected among the ministers, and you will be taught the Fa-rectification. If you are a prince, you will be honored among the princes, and you will show loyalty and filial piety. "The prince is the son of the world, and if you study history deeply, you will know that the more imperial families and wealthy families are, the more there is no loyalty and filial piety, and the more flesh and blood are fratricidal, both ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign.
"If you are an internal official, you will be respected in the internal official, and you will become a palace maid." The inner official is a eunuch, also known as the Yellow Gate or the Middle Palace in Chinese history, and the Yellow Gate is also mentioned in Buddhist precepts, and it is a person who is neither male nor female. If you look at Chinese history, you feel that the power of internal officials is terrifying, and it is completely perverted. The powerful internal officials even held the emperor's life and the selection of the prince who succeeded him in their hands, and the ministers and generals of the outer court had no way at all. If you read the Vimala Sutra, you can understand that the history of India is the same. Turning the palace maid is to make the harem pure.
"If it is among the common people, the common people will be respected, and it will be prosperous." The common people are the common people.
"If you are in Brahma, Brahma is in the middle of the revered, and you will be enlightened." Brahma is the god of the first meditation heaven, he is determined, he is already a heavenly being with great practice, they have a fixed but no highest wisdom. Vimala laymen can still teach them Prajna Victory, but they cannot attain Prajna Wisdom liberation. How is liberation? It is liberating to be able to clean the mountains and forests like the pigsty toilet.
"If it is in the emperor's release, the emperor's release is in the middle, showing impermanence." Emperor Shakti is the God of the Heaven of Desire, that is, the Jade Emperor in China, not the Great Brahma, and the Great Brahma is even greater than the Jade Emperor. The Jade Emperor was born in the Thirty-three Days of the Heaven of the Desire Realm, which does not mean the thirty-third layer of heaven, but the name of the Heavenly Realm is called the Thirty-three Heavens, which is composed of thirty-three regions, which is barely equivalent to the United Nations in the heavens, and the Jade Emperor is the God elected by it. What is the difference between the world of desire and the world of color? The celestial beings of the Desire Realm are like us, coveting the pleasures of the five desires. The big five desires are color, sound, fragrance, taste, and touch, and the small five desires are laughing, seeing, handing, hugging, and touching. The Heavenly Beings of the Desire Realm also have the desires of men and women, but the children of the Emperor Shakti are born from the shoulders, unlike the children of the human world, which are born from the down.
"If you are protecting the world, you will be respected in protecting the world, and you will protect all sentient beings." The protector of the world is the god of heaven, and the four King Kongs in the temple are the god of protecting the world. It is the god of the Four Heavenly Kings in the middle of the Heaven of Desire, and our earth world is protected by them. For example, Wei Dao Bodhisattva, according to legend, was a heavenly general of the Four Heavenly Kings Zhongnan Tianmen Bishamen Heavenly King, who was first known during the Tang Dynasty in China. At that time, there was a Zen master who was sitting in meditation on Zhongnan Mountain, and fell into a drowse and fell off the cliff for a while, and was held up by the Dharma Protector God and did not fall to his death. The Zen master thanked him and asked the gods to appear. The god of heaven appeared and claimed to be Wei Tuo, and the Zen master painted the appearance of Wei Tuo, which was passed down to the world. In our one eon, a total of 1,000 Buddhas will be born, and Shakyamuni Buddha is the fourth Buddha to be born. Wei Dao Bodhisattva made a vow that he would be the last Buddha born among the 1,000 Buddhas of the Virtuous Tribulation.
It was said that the merits of the Vimal monks were that no matter where they were or in what line of work, they were first-class saints and were able to lead others. He is an example for us monks to learn the Mahayana Bodhisattva path, and he is also the Confucian doctrine of "turning the people into customs", educating the people and turning them into a social atmosphere. Vimal monks not only "turn the people into customs" for the people of the world, but also educate the heavenly people. I often joke with a common saying, people ask me how old I am. I said "every year old", what about status? It is "one level higher than the official", and as for being a man, it is "a generation shorter than seeing people", and if you do this, you are a Vimo layman. Now let's get into the main topic of the Vimala Sutra.
