Manjushri Bodhisattva is the teacher of the Seven Buddhas, he has already become a Buddha, in order to assist Shakyamuni Buddha to become a Buddha in this world, he incarnated as a Bodhisattva to protect the Dharma.

Protecting the Dharma is to uphold the Dharma and make the Dharma live in the world. Therefore, the temple is also called permanent residence, which means that the Dharma lives forever, representing the Buddha's Dharma permanent residence. The image of Manjushri Bodhisattva in the general manifestation is a sutra in one hand, and the mount is a lion, representing the king of beasts, making a lion's roar.

The Bodhisattva sits on a lotus platform and rides a six-tusked white elephant, representing the power of great wishes and burdening sentient beings. In Esoteric Buddhism, the image of Manjushri Bodhisattva is often held in one hand to represent wisdom, and the vajra sword in the other hand to cut off all afflictions.

The Jade Emperor said to the Buddha, "Although I have heard countless teachings of the Dharma from you and Manjushri (the Buddha's teachings are recorded in the later scriptures), I have never heard of such an incredible method and talked about the power of freedom and supernatural powers.

The power of freedom is not cultivated, it is inherent in sentient beings, but it is only developed after the mind has a clear understanding.

In other words, if you don't have the realm of being at ease, you can't be considered truly enlightened. It is generally believed that supernatural powers are able to see things that cannot be seen with the naked eye, or that cannot be heard by hearing the ears, but many of these phenomena are psychopaths, not supernatural powers, and they must be distinguished clearly.

Pang Yun, a famous Pang Ju in Zen Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty, was very knowledgeable and never came out to be an official for the rest of his life. He lives in Xiangyang, an important town in Hubei. Xiangyang was a concentrated area of cultural wealth in the Central Plains in the Tang Dynasty, and "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" said that Liu Guan, Zhang Zhuge Liang and others had been making trouble in that area all their lives, which was such an important area.

Pang Jushi's family is rich, and the people of the Central Plains like to connect the rich and the rich, and if they have money, they will be expensive. If it's just expensive and high-status, but it's not rich, it's not a blessing. During the New Year, "Five Blessings are often pasted on the door", and the five blessings do not include the expensive ones. Expensive does not necessarily mean rich, Pang Jushi's family of four, he, his wife, a son and a daughter, are all enlightened people, and they are very special families.

Pang Jushi studied Zen with Matsu, his practice is very good, what white bone view, counting breath view, chanting Buddha will, but can not solve the problem, this heart is uneasy.

I don't know if you have studied for a long time and are at ease. Even if a person who studies Buddhism knows everything, there is a problem that has not yet been solved, and that is the problem of life and death.

Where does life come from, and where does death go? After studying Buddhism for a long time, what is it to become a Buddha? All our doubts are included.

When Pang Jushi finally went to find Matsu, he asked a question, "How is the ancestor from the west?" This question is to ask what is the mind of Patriarch Bodhidharma who came to China to preach Buddhism.

He asked the Buddha's heart, the center of the heart. Tantra has a heart-centered method, a heart-centered mantra. After the death of the Buddha, this method of mind was passed on in India for twenty-eight generations, and the Patriarch Daman, who was also a monk of the crown prince.

He found that Buddhism was already declining in India, and saw that Aurora (that is, the Central Plains) in the east had Mahayana weather, so he crossed the sea to the east and went ashore in Guangzhou. At that time, it was the Northern and Southern Dynasties of China, with Emperor Wu of Liang in the south and the Northern Wei Dynasty in the north (Yungang Grottoes and Songshan Shaolin Temple were both established by the Northern Wei Dynasty).

Patriarch Bodhidharma probably lived in Guangzhou for a while, because later he had a conversation with Emperor Wu of Liang, and he replied, "I don't know." Before I went to Guangdong, I always understood this answer as "I don't know", and when I learned a little Cantonese, I remembered that Patriarch Bodhidharma meant "I don't know". Okay, first explain to the ancestor from the west.

Back to Pang Jushi, he asked Matsu, "What is the meaning of the ancestor from the west?" "He asked very simply, straight to the point, like you learning Zen, even asking a question is muddy.

How did Matsu answer? "I'll tell you when you drink the water of the entire Xijiang River in one gulp." This is Zen, what is the question and what is the answer?
