Chapter 1047: Bodhisattva Walk (8)
The Buddha's monks and lay disciples must pay attention to their behavior and be content with few desires.
Ordinary people in society are very strict with those who study Buddhism, which is wrong, because everyone is human and everyone is cultivating.
The first step is to achieve contentment with less desires, and then the following sentence: "Do not give up the world's law." ”
This is to enter the WTO, never depart from the original position of being a human being, no matter whether he is a monk at home, he will not give up all the Dharma in the world.
I often tell fellow monks that if you don't understand the worldly Dharma, how can you study Buddhism? Our teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha, understands all the laws of the world, was born as a prince, and then became a monk to cultivate the law of the world.
Some young people study Buddhism as soon as they come, and when I see it, my head is too big, and you haven't even done a good job, and you still become a Buddha?
People don't know what to do! That's why I often advise people that you should learn to be a man first and then come back, not to dismiss you, this is fundamental.
If you can become a Buddha without even knowing how to do it, then you don't need to learn this kind of Buddha.
At that time, I accompanied a Zen teacher to Wanxian County, Sichuan Province to see his teacher, Monk Nengyuan, who was one of the four elders of modern Zen Buddhism.
I imagined that the enlightened monks must live in the mountains, and the environment is elegant.
Na Xiao got a look, Teacher Tai lived in the bell and drum tower in the middle of the city, and there was a market outside.
He wasn't meditating as I thought, but smoking a long cigarette pipe.
Our master and apprentice kowtowed to him, and the teacher was very polite, and he quickly got up: "Alas, okay, okay, get up, sit, sit." ”
Then he asked me who I was, and my master introduced me to him as his disciple. He said, "Oh, well, young people are still learning this." So he got up and went to the charcoal stove to boil water and make tea.
My master hurriedly persuaded him to stop and let the juniors do it.
He insisted on refusing, and personally boiled water to make tea and served it to us, of course, we stood up immediately, and even said that we didn't dare.
He told us: "I am no longer the abbot of the great temple, and today you are guests when you come to my small place, and the etiquette of the world cannot be abolished." This is the "Ten Thousand Lines Gate in the Law of Reluctance". ”
The famous saying of Zen Buddhism quoted by Master Tai is "The actual reason is not subject to a dust, and there is no way to give up a law in the ten thousand lines." ”
The first sentence is to say that the body is vacuum, and the wordless realm of the Tao is obtained.
The second sentence is to talk about use, to use is to have, to put down is empty, to mention is to have! To become a Buddha is also to speak the Dharma and be a human being, and there are thousands of ways to be a human being, and one of them is not sloppy.
Therefore, those of you who study Buddhism should pay attention to the precept of "doing less and wanting to be content, and not giving up the Dharma of the world"!
Generally speaking, family members are called laymen, but in fact, they are not qualified to be laymen. Laymen must be old, virtuous, and so on.
Now as long as there are two hairs on the head, you are a layman, and it doesn't matter anyway, you can call it whatever you like! But I don't want to be a layman, I can't be a layman, I'm nothing.
Ordinary laypeople have excessive requirements for the monks, as if they are leaving the world. Do you still need to eat and dress when you are a monk? Of course, since it is, it is still in the world's law.
Therefore, Buddhist students who are monks at home must pay attention to "not giving up the Dharma of the world". If you study Buddhism in order to give up the Dharma of the world, you are already wrong.
Therefore, we must also remember that we have repeatedly quoted the words of the Six Patriarchs, "The Dharma is in the world, and it is not separated from the world." Leaving the world to find Bodhi is just like asking for a rabbit's horns. ”
"It is not bad for prestige, but can follow the customs." This sentence is serious, the first request is for the monks, and the second is for the laymen.
We know that the precepts are the norms of behavior for those who study Buddhism, and there are three parts.
The first part is called prestige, also called the precepts of discipline, which is now in the school that belongs to the discipline and conduct.
For example, clothes should be worn neatly, which is also a prestige, and some colleagues came back from foreign countries, and wore clothes very casually, and when asked, he said that he wore them like this abroad.
I said, what world have you seen abroad? Do you have friends in high society abroad? If you go over there and take a look, they are still well-dressed! You learn those things that are not in the stream, and then come back and say that this is a foreign faction, don't lie to me if you lie to others! This is the principle of prestige.
